  1. Fished today and caught some really nice fish cranking. Had about 16 lbs this morning by 12. Went back out at 2 and caught 2 more smallmouth over 4 lbs plus a but load of other keepers. It was a memorable day. Water temps 51-56 from long creek marina to cow.

    Long Creek 3/26

Well we started up river from long creek marina at 7am. First stop was a little cut between 2 bluffs. Caught the SM in the picture on a WW. WT was 51. Through the the day til 2 pm we caught 25 more but no other keepers. Most were LM all under 15". We eventually found WT that was 58.5. We also found a nice spinner bait and an original fire tiger WW in the water that we now have in our tackle box. Finally I found more that I lost. Mike

    3/26 report

Launched around old point 9 at 3:30 PM. Headed towards the second flat south towards CC. Fished it for about an hour and a half. Picked up 2 nice whites in about 25 FOW. Fired up and moved to point B9 (old 10). Caught four more whites trolling around B9 in 40 FOW. Also picked up a 19 inch Largemouth in the same area in the same depth (no photo because my phone was dead). Largest white went 18 1/2 inches, 1 went 17, 4 went 16 1/2. Smallest was 15. I turned the LM back unharmed. Caught the LM on a reef runner, the whites were all flickershad. The whites were all over the balls of shad

    22.75 inch surprise

I went on my first short float of the year yesterday on a rarely floated river hoping to get into some smalljaws and the trip didn't dissapoint. I had to paddle hard to make takeout at 530 (put in close to 4) but I still managed 4 of the brown ones. The surprise wasnt that I also caught 4 'bows, or that I caught a 16.75 inch bow (no pic i was about to be in a real bad situation), it was that I caught a 22.75 in TOAD that im fairly confident is the same fish that i caught (and posted) in december. The spot is a secret, the river is secret and no its not where you think it is

  7. Those are some beauties, Alex. Good job. We didn't catch as many yesterday, but I did have this one which was pretty nice. I wanted to have flames coming out of my ears, too, but they would have clashed with my War Eagle cap and bibs. Crank bait to be named after the tournament next week.

    Good Friday?

I'm with u guys. I checked water from point 12 to point 5 yesterday. Heck I even tried bass fishing for a hour and a half with nothing to show. Right at dusk I marked some fish but I couldn't get a hook up. I was using ballon rigs and would see the rod tips go down hard ever so often but no hook up. Might have done better if I had smaller baits. The shad I was using were huge. Like 10-12 inches. Think maybe some 4-7 inchers would have been better. I went back this morning around 9 and hooked up within 20 mins. I ended up with 2 short stripers 1 keeper and 3 huge crappie. I took

    Couple Niangua Rainbows

I fished the Niangua River at the Rt 64 Bridge access looking to catch some fish that had eluded me last year. I was fishing worms and was able to catch the fish that I had been thinking about for some time. I was able to fight the current and place my baits just where my target fish could take the bait. I let the fish take the baits before setting the hook. Once I landed them I took their pictures and released them back into the river. Here are the male rainbow darters that I caught yesterday. I did also catch a few 8-10 inch rainbow trout on this trip as well. I also tried for

  11. Fished a small work tourny out of Aunt's Creek. Launch was delayed because of the fog and it was a pretty chilly wait. Finally launched and started fishing a few chunk rock to gravel transitions in little Aunts. Got a couple small bites on a biffle bug but no fish in the boat. After an hour or so the fog had lifted and we decided to run to the Joe bald area and fish banks leading into pockets. We threw rock crawlers, jigs, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and a ned rig trying to get bit and failed miserably. Had one decent fish on a jig come off at the boat but it was some tough fishing.

  14. My problem is my fishing buddies don't know how to use a phone to take a picture. I have had some great opportunities with some big fish that went squandered. I've had a lunker walleye for stockton (27 inches) that didn't get a picture because my fishing buddies don't know how to take photos. So I'm having to adapt by taking a picture of them with my fish...and of course that can be a touchy subject! So my response has now become "learn how to take a picture and you don't have to be seen with something you didn't catch!"

    Walleye Report

Surface temperature was at 57 once the sun started to peak. I'd say 4 foot below that the temperature is different all the way to the bottom. The spawn on Stockton happens at different times of the year on different parts of the lake. I'm no expert by any means, but growing up around this lake it seems like the spawn starts in the south (Turnback Creek) right around the mid March then slowly works its way up to CC. I will typically end up fishing around Hawker Point by mid may through early June. I catch fish (walleye and crappie) that still have eggs in them. So I'm saying the spawn tak

I need to learn the shooting dock tactic myself, I am new to the crappie game. Spend most of my time bassing but the crappie taste good and it is fun when they are biting good. Spent the day with the grandson in the boat today, wish it was better fishing for him, maybe next time.

  19. Off early to our favorite river this morning. Found the crappie. Brought home eighteen. I threw a little pink eyed chartreuse over white clouser and Pat used a pink bead head white body chartreuse tailed woolly bugger. They bit early and just quit. We caught ten six and eight inch fish to every keeper. On the way back to the ramp we looked over a half dozen cut banks that had lithic debitage coming out of the banks. While the Mrs. was walking one of the banks looking for points I held the boat next to the bank. Looked down into the water and there it was. A hopewell nice and thin.Have not deci

Well we did a bit of fishing today and it wasn't fun, we caught 2 nice smallies, never measured them but I expected them to be 17" the wind is terrible, went back to cabin at about 1:00, going to try this evening again, Ned rig and grub, they are being tricky again with the wobble head when I can find areas when the wind isn't howling, days like this are tough for those that venture out but could also be rewarding. I caught some very nice fish late yesterday evening and after dark for a bit, sorry for no pics except for 1smallie. Seen one other nut out there besides us!!

  21. I got on the water around 10-1030. I launched out of MN headed to the main lake. I idled over a couple of spots and finally in the third spot I graphed what I was looking for, a big school of fish. I trolled the area for about 3hrs, and really all fish came within the first hour. Ended up with 5 striper 3 of which were keepers and a whole bunch of whites. By 12 or so the fish had moved on and I tried to relocate them but with the wind picking up and temps seems to be dropping I decided to call it s day. No Live bait today. All fish were on cranks and swim baits

    water temp

I attached a map for you. These were the three places I was talking about. Temp started at 54 at 3 PM and it was up to about 57-58 by the time I left. Water was clear enough yesterday you could see about 3- 3 1/2 deep. Water barely had a green tint, but the sun made seeing a crank bait running pretty easy. On the flat (southern most box) didn't see much on it. When I got out deeper fish were from the bottom up to about 15 FOW suspended. Around the point (middle box) fish were all on the bottom. The northern most area (old point 10 now B9) the fish were all around the balls of shad. Ea

  26. Trolled the upper Gravi basin this morning for whites and crappie; no joy. This year is just not going to pan out like I would like. Lake still pretty dingy and WT 49 to start around 8ish. Couple of big floaters up there; saw a couple attentive fellows running WFO miss the biggest by inches and it was a sure lower unit killer - I'm betting it got clipped it in the wind chop today By somebody as it was riding low. Did not really feel like bass fishing and there is no stickbait water in the lower end or Gravi so I tied on a blue flake Ned and thought I'd try to stumble over a walleye. Fishe

    Tenkara In The Ozarks?

Busted out the Tenkara for the first time today. I caught a handful of tiny guys from the skinniest water imaginable. Not great water, but nice enough for me to add Dusty Striped Shiner to my life list. My boy went with me and used UL spinning. He got a chub and LE sunfish.

Bass fishing has been slow for us this weekend but at least we've found some crappie... All between 10-12". Three of us cleaned 45 today. Some on a roadrunner but most have been caught corking a 1/32 oz jig. Color hasn't mattered much. 24-26 mm.

that sounds about what I have been doing around 28 mm to the nianguas, biggest was 13 inches. Last Monday I believe it was a 3.5 lb 18 inch crappie was caught on a spinnerbait and is up at Osage Beach Bait and Tackle in a bait tank.

Dang I opted to not go to the dam on Saturday. They are definitely not done spawning in the lake. River fish in the river should be finishing up, but the lake spawned will be a while more yet.

    Beautiful Saturday but...

Bill, move into bigger creeks, drift minnows along the creek channels . The big females whites are just holding out suspended in open water waiting to courtship. And... If weather has been stable the Black crappie should be on the bank in thick lay downs. Use a thill 1/16oz slip bobber with a 1/16 jig head and BG lights out color baby shad. And dip it in there so not to spook them. Or do what I do and free line it working the jig from top to bottom.

  39. Went this morning with my future father in law. We put in at 215 and floated down to Taylor, ended up with 24 whites and a walleye. No concentration of fish anywhere but caught 2 or 3 in each eddy. The bite was very light, missed more fish than we caught.

i hear you, but champ seems to always want pics, and for those that are fishing alone, pics are hard to do without laying the bass down. as for me, i rarely want to take time out to take pictures. i know what i caught and what they will weigh. i am more concerned with catching the next one. many times, i could catch another two or three in the time that it takes to take a picture. most bass look just about the same and we have all seen them. i am guilty of just putting them over onto the floor landing them. i do not carry a net, and that does as much damage, and i do not get up and
