    SAT & SUN (2/3 DEC)

Fished both days with decent success. Saturday my wife and I caught most of our fish up the James from Aunt's Creek on inside channel swings with gravel. Mostly on a slab spoon and a variety of smallies, spots and whites. Probably about 20 fish all together, mostly shorts. Fish were in 25-45 FOW. Sunday launched out of Kimberling and found the bass chasing bait 3/4 the way back in the creeks. Schooling action lasted until mid morning when the breeze but a ripple on the water. Caught 15 or so smallies, spots and LM with over half keeprs. Most of the fish were 2+ pound smallies with one 3+ LM. Once the wind kicked up switched to spoons in 35-60 FOW and caught another 10-15 fish. A great day with awesome weather.

This weather has the fish confused. Took a quick trip close to home and it was crazy good for a hour on wtd baits. Who would of thought.

I've gigged plenty over the years and I can tell you one thing. There have been far more smallmouth killed in my boat due to being hooked in the gut or in the tongue than there ever has from being gigged. I guess for the sake of the fish, MDC should ban all recreational fishing so we don't wipe the poor things out!

    Indian Creek 12/3

Went over to Indian Creek early in the AM and fished with Mike M. Early it was flat calm, as you can see from the pic. That's when the fish were biting. The smallies were hitting jigs and there was top water action, mostly stripers but a few black bass also. We caught the smallies dragging 1/2 oz football jigs with craw or twin tailed grubs dragging them in 5 - 20 FOW. Once the wind picked up, and it really started blowing, the bite slowed down. We totaled about 15 bass, mostly smallies, but a couple of spots and one largemouth. One smallie went about 3 lbs., the rest were in the 12-16" range. I had two stripers blow up on a pencil popper, one was a huge explosion, but he missed the popper, had another blowup, just felt a tick, but he didn't get enough of the lure. Saw one boat fishing for striper that came in a bit later after the wind picked up, he was in the right area, don't know if he caught any. Saw water temps from 57-59, given the forecast that won't last. Quite a few eagles back in Indian if anyone wants to do some eagle watching, that's not a bad place to go. Saw some turkeys too. Cape Fair 12/3/17

I put in at 7:20 and fished a straight worm for a couple hours and had a couple shorts, and a couple swing and misses. It was pretty slow with the worm. I started throwing some cranks, spinnerbaits and squarebill with not much luck at all. I went to the very back of a 50 yard cut with a black Buzzbait with a gold blade and when I pulled it over the top of a log in the far back something took a swipe at it but stopped just short of hitting it. That got me excited because it seemed big. For some reason she pulled away from it. I changed to a black on black Buzzbait and did much better. I caught about 12 on it with 2 good keepers, and they really wanted it. The big one was 3.14 and the other was 3.5 on my scale. It sure was good to get out again and set the hook, it has been way too long. Water temp was 55.7 and I pulled out right at noon. This post has been promoted to an article

We do have quality smallmouth fishing. We're just too dumb to appreciate it.

They piled the deer up this weekend! There were twelve hunters (seven disabled and five youth, I believe) and the final tally was nine deer and one miss. The guys that run that organization did an amazing job getting everything ready to go and it ran without a hitch. I was paired up with Dane. He has muscular dystrophy. While his legs may not work the best, he is a pro on the gun. We actually passed on deer hunting Saturday morning to try and call in a yote, but didn't have any luck. That evening, we sat in a blind that over looks a grown up field and sits between crop bottoms and bedding. About 10 minutes before last shooting light, a doe slipped out of the bedding and started working our way. She was farther to our right than we expected so we had to get Dane turned around to his right a bit more to be able to get in position for a shot. Once that was done, I just leaned back and let him do his thing. The doe finally turned and gave him a good broadside shot at 150 yards and he let the .308 bark. She made it about 50 yards and tipped over in the field. This was his fifth deer that has taken this year. I'm only up to three. Dad and I had a fantastic time helping out with this. I'm definitely going to get more involved with these guys. I made several new friends this past weekend and I plan on doing more with them in the future.

I've gigged for 30 years. It is a tradition for a lot of us. I will gig every chance I get. I haven't stuck anything but suckers in the last 15 years If you've never gigged you just wouldn't understand any of these conversations I guess

Caught a couple of bass there today. Afterwards they got their revenge, toyed with my bait and got it snagged.....twice! Catch of the day...

In this area it's been the trashing of the accesses and partying that goes on there. People just get fed up with it and they get shut down.

Cheese, most of us have been waiting all year for a top water bite. Here you go and throw a buzz bait on December 3rd and catch some nice fish. Who knew!!!! Congratulations and nice pics of healthy fish. Now I have a dilemma.....do I use a spoon and go 40โ€™ deep or throw a buzz bait in a small cut? Decisions, decisions, decisions.....Iโ€™m so confused. Gary and I launched the Charger at Cedar Ridge Thursday 11/30 at 7am sharp. Water temp was 52* at the ramp, 50.7 under the bridge. Started out with a Ned Rig and caught some nice bass while the sun was still low in the sky. As it got bright the bite slowed some but we still manage to catch several. Then, when the sun was low in the sky again that evening, we thrashed 'em pretty good. We caught large mouth, small jaw, whites and drum......we had a ball. Most came on the Ned but a we also caught several nice fish on a fire tiger wiggle wart and a little 3/16 oz white rattle shad.....love it.

Sweet! On a side note is anyone bringing waders? I'm mostly a wader fisher, but this will be my first time down there(noob alert!). Anyone night fish? Also a night fisher too lol. Just seeing how much gear I need to haul down. I'm super pumped to get down and meet everyone and fish what I hear is an amazing fishery. Not gonna lie I'm really coming for the food!

I was honored to spend a day with my uncle on Tablerock looking for bass. It was tough and a little slow but a beautiful day. We found 10 or 12 hungry fish about 1/2 back in a cove over 40 to 60 feet of water. Ended up with 5 keepers. 1 was mine 4 for Steve but who's counting. We were using gold and blue chrome 3/4 oz Binks spoons, and Steves secret bait. Don't ask can't tell๐Ÿ˜€. We had a great time.

Sadly it outsmarted me. Not the first or last time. I distinctly remember one time this summer there, I had thrown out a rod with a circle hook and shrimp, and let it sit while I was messing with my new-to-me casting net. I'd walk off 30-40 feet or so to see if I could teach myself how to effectively throw the net, and without fail for an hour or so, a fish would take off with the shrimp I had on the rod there, and drop it again in the time it took me to run back. I'd wait, nothing. Check the bait, still there. Throw it back out, hold on, wait, nothing. Drop it back in the rod holder and wait, nothing. Finally I go back to throwing around the casting net, at which point it would take it and run with it, only to drop it as I got back to the rod. And that went on for a good hour and a half or so.

Well, I recently found out that a one day meeting on the 6th turned into a two day meeting at Honeywell the 6th and 7th. Leaving for the 8+ hour drive down as soon as I'm done Thursday afternoon so I won't get in until 1:00 am or so. I was planning on taking Thursday off. I'll still be fishing Friday morning but by the time I get up and moving, get boat gas, unload some additional house things from the truck I will be running later in the morning Friday. See you all on the water.
