    SAT & SUN (2/3 DEC)

Fished both days with decent success. Saturday my wife and I caught most of our fish up the James from Aunt's Creek on inside channel swings with gravel. Mostly on a slab spoon and a variety of smallies, spots and whites. Probably about 20 fish all together, mostly shorts. Fish were in 25-45 FOW. Sunday launched out of Kimberling and found the bass chasing bait 3/4 the way back in the creeks. Schooling action lasted until mid morning when the breeze but a ripple on the water. Caught 15 or so smallies, spots and LM with over half keeprs. Most of the fish were 2+ pound smallies with one 3+ LM. Once the wind kicked up switched to spoons in 35-60 FOW and caught another 10-15 fish. A great day with awesome weather.

    11-26-17 Glaize Crappie

Same deal for me and the wife this weekend. Fished off the docks for a bit Friday night and got a few. Saturday put the boat in and went looking for an isolated dock near the channel and first one we tried, we never left. Caught our fish pitching into the boat well close to the floats. But even in the middle of the well we were getting fish down to about 6 foot. Color did not seem to matter.

This weather has the fish confused. Took a quick trip close to home and it was crazy good for a hour on wtd baits. Who would of thought.

I've gigged plenty over the years and I can tell you one thing. There have been far more smallmouth killed in my boat due to being hooked in the gut or in the tongue than there ever has from being gigged. I guess for the sake of the fish, MDC should ban all recreational fishing so we don't wipe the poor things out!

    Indian Creek 12/3

Went over to Indian Creek early in the AM and fished with Mike M. Early it was flat calm, as you can see from the pic. That's when the fish were biting. The smallies were hitting jigs and there was top water action, mostly stripers but a few black bass also. We caught the smallies dragging 1/2 oz football jigs with craw or twin tailed grubs dragging them in 5 - 20 FOW. Once the wind picked up, and it really started blowing, the bite slowed down. We totaled about 15 bass, mostly smallies, but a couple of spots and one largemouth. One smallie went about 3 lbs., the rest were in the 12-16" range. I had two stripers blow up on a pencil popper, one was a huge explosion, but he missed the popper, had another blowup, just felt a tick, but he didn't get enough of the lure. Saw one boat fishing for striper that came in a bit later after the wind picked up, he was in the right area, don't know if he caught any. Saw water temps from 57-59, given the forecast that won't last. Quite a few eagles back in Indian if anyone wants to do some eagle watching, that's not a bad place to go. Saw some turkeys too. Went To The River

A chip off the ol' block I am. I'm actually not bothered one bit about Oneshot's grocery collecting because I know he doesn't waste a single bite of it. The guys that upset me are the ones that drag them around on a stringer all day and then throw their dead stiff carcasses in the trunk of their car. You know darn well that they end up as catfood.

I'm sure those same states fall behind MO when it comes to other species as well. I think you would be hard pressed to find a state that is as well rounded as Missouri when it comes to outdoor activities. It's kind of the jack of all trades, master at none type of thing. Sure, if you only fish for smallmouth on Ozark streams then that doesn't mean much to you. However, if you're like me and fish for a variety of different species, then it's wonderful. LoZ and TRL offer some great bass fishing for numbers and good sized fish, but you won't catch a 10 pounder like you would downs outh The MO River and Mississippi River are loaded with monster catfish, but you probably stand a better chance at catching one on Wheeler in Alabama LoZ and Truman have fantastic crappie fishing, but you aren't going to catch as many 3+ pounders there as you would in MIssissippi Trout fishing on Taneycomo is fantastic and you have the chance at hooking up with a possible 20+ pound fish. MO is arguably the best paddlefish state in the country. Oklahoma has great numbers, but your chances of catching a giant are better in MO on Truman or Tablerock Our deer hunting is really good, but Iowa, Kansas and Illinois produce more really big deer. MO still sees a lot of boone and crockett class deer each year. MO also has a ton of public land for people to utlize as well. I've spoken to many hunters from other states that don't offer the quality of public grounds that our state does. MO is always ranked towards the top when it comes to turkey hunting. Smallmouth fishing isn't on par with the northern states when it comes to size, but it's just one more thing that MO has to offer. If you want to go catch a bunch of fish, the Ozark streams are full of them I'm sure there are other things. My point is that while one state may be the best at one thing in general, they are terrible at others. Missouri is great at a few things and still offers decent opportunities at nearly anything you can think of. Try opening your eyes and look at the bigger picture. We have it pretty good in my opinion.

    Cape Fair 12/3/17

I put in at 7:20 and fished a straight worm for a couple hours and had a couple shorts, and a couple swing and misses. It was pretty slow with the worm. I started throwing some cranks, spinnerbaits and squarebill with not much luck at all. I went to the very back of a 50 yard cut with a black Buzzbait with a gold blade and when I pulled it over the top of a log in the far back something took a swipe at it but stopped just short of hitting it. That got me excited because it seemed big. For some reason she pulled away from it. I changed to a black on black Buzzbait and did much better. I caught about 12 on it with 2 good keepers, and they really wanted it. The big one was 3.14 and the other was 3.5 on my scale. It sure was good to get out again and set the hook, it has been way too long. Water temp was 55.7 and I pulled out right at noon. This post has been promoted to an article

I honestly don't know what the effect of bad gigging practices is on a statewide level, but on the river I fish most frequently (my home water) it is a genuinely significant issue. So it fires me up big-time. For the most part it is one single, rather large, family and their friends/co-workers. It honestly wouldn't be hard to bust them and make them quit it for good, but the jackasses in charge of doing that won't freakin' do it.

They piled the deer up this weekend! There were twelve hunters (seven disabled and five youth, I believe) and the final tally was nine deer and one miss. The guys that run that organization did an amazing job getting everything ready to go and it ran without a hitch. I was paired up with Dane. He has muscular dystrophy. While his legs may not work the best, he is a pro on the gun. We actually passed on deer hunting Saturday morning to try and call in a yote, but didn't have any luck. That evening, we sat in a blind that over looks a grown up field and sits between crop bottoms and bedding. About 10 minutes before last shooting light, a doe slipped out of the bedding and started working our way. She was farther to our right than we expected so we had to get Dane turned around to his right a bit more to be able to get in position for a shot. Once that was done, I just leaned back and let him do his thing. The doe finally turned and gave him a good broadside shot at 150 yards and he let the .308 bark. She made it about 50 yards and tipped over in the field. This was his fifth deer that has taken this year. I'm only up to three. Dad and I had a fantastic time helping out with this. I'm definitely going to get more involved with these guys. I made several new friends this past weekend and I plan on doing more with them in the future.

Average joes buy more licenses than trophy joes do, y"all need to stop and thank them for paying most of the management cost so that you can play. Trophy management just might cost that support if the regulations are too slanted against them. Personally I have no real desire to catch just large fish, rather catch many fish; big ones count the same as tiny ones when you are there for the act of fishing in a beautiful place. No lake in the world has good fishing, none. And if you have to have to measure it in inches or in pounds, you have missed to point.

Basically how I clean turkeys, Hang by leg . Pull off skin. Fillet of each side of breast. Cut out "oysters" back meat. Cut off leg and thigh on floating leg. Yank out heart and gizzard if keeping. Separate remaining carcass from hanging leg and thigh. Pretty easy w/o messing with guts. Mrs. BilletHead when I was gone and did her own says I make the process look easy. It is I told her and she frowned . I also if not keeping fan whole and intact cut tail feathers in matched pairs opposing sides for fellow fly tiers. Same with wing secondary's. Primaries got to fletchers that do their arrows. Not much left of a turkey when I get done with it, BilletHead

Now I'm not as hip as up-to-date as you other fellows are but the last I knew nobody was gigging Table Rock, Stockton or any other lake. Yet there still has not been one caught anywhere near equal in size to the ones in the states you are dreaming about. So I am of the mind that gigging is not the problem .

Now I do process turkeys that way if I am not plannnig on roasting the bird. You simply skin the bird around the meat you are going to remove. I start with the breast and do remove some feathers so that they don't get stuck on the meat. I don't do this in the field but after I get the bird home.

Cheese, most of us have been waiting all year for a top water bite. Here you go and throw a buzz bait on December 3rd and catch some nice fish. Who knew!!!! Congratulations and nice pics of healthy fish. Now I have a dilemma.....do I use a spoon and go 40’ deep or throw a buzz bait in a small cut? Decisions, decisions, decisions.....I’m so confused. Mike

Gary and I launched the Charger at Cedar Ridge Thursday 11/30 at 7am sharp. Water temp was 52* at the ramp, 50.7 under the bridge. Started out with a Ned Rig and caught some nice bass while the sun was still low in the sky. As it got bright the bite slowed some but we still manage to catch several. Then, when the sun was low in the sky again that evening, we thrashed 'em pretty good. We caught large mouth, small jaw, whites and drum......we had a ball. Most came on the Ned but a we also caught several nice fish on a fire tiger wiggle wart and a little 3/16 oz white rattle shad.....love it.

The Oklahoma record walleye is 12 pounds and 13 ounces. The walleye in the picture below isn't even the Holiday Island Marina record. Mine was 13.75. Chuck's was 14.5 and I saw it. TR produces prodigious walleye and back channel communications tell me LOz does as well. I suspect Stockton holds something like this as well. Just saying.

I was honored to spend a day with my uncle on Tablerock looking for bass. It was tough and a little slow but a beautiful day. We found 10 or 12 hungry fish about 1/2 back in a cove over 40 to 60 feet of water. Ended up with 5 keepers. 1 was mine 4 for Steve but who's counting. We were using gold and blue chrome 3/4 oz Binks spoons, and Steves secret bait. Don't ask can't tell😀. We had a great time.

Sadly it outsmarted me. Not the first or last time. I distinctly remember one time this summer there, I had thrown out a rod with a circle hook and shrimp, and let it sit while I was messing with my new-to-me casting net. I'd walk off 30-40 feet or so to see if I could teach myself how to effectively throw the net, and without fail for an hour or so, a fish would take off with the shrimp I had on the rod there, and drop it again in the time it took me to run back. I'd wait, nothing. Check the bait, still there. Throw it back out, hold on, wait, nothing. Drop it back in the rod holder and wait, nothing. Finally I go back to throwing around the casting net, at which point it would take it and run with it, only to drop it as I got back to the rod. And that went on for a good hour and a half or so.

Leaving for the 8+ hour drive down as soon as I'm done Thursday afternoon so I won't get in until 1:00 am or so. I was planning on taking Thursday off. I'll still be fishing Friday morning but by the time I get up and moving, get boat gas, unload some additional house things from the truck I will be running later in the morning Friday.
