    USE Sunscreen

Went to Dermatologist today, referred by GP..... She froze off over 50 spots... said it had became inhumane to continue...prescribed Chemo ointment for my head.... big hat and SPF 50 come back in 3 months and start again.... I thought I was doing a pretty good job... not as good as Ham but ...pretty good. Be careful, precaution is better than treatment. g

Buddy and I went out on his birthday Tuesday closer to home. Barely made it over 20 and was below freezing when we launched. We made it count though. TUE 1/2 Actual Temp 22° /-1°

I am bored and playing with my Google photos. I always enjoy looking at fish pics so here is a list of some I am adding as I type this. These are random pics of decent river bass over the last couple of years.....just completely bored, sorry in advance if these pics are offensive to you. I need a warm up bad, so I can get back to fishing

Over at a friends house last night. She cooked up a great meal of roasted pork loin, potatoes, asparagus and green beans. Simple stuff made and seasoned well = good eats!

Listen, Titleist Breath, you don't have the market cornered on hating because I have been labeled a hater here MANY more times than you. So there. And yes, I hate you, too. For that matter, anyone who stoops to throwing an A-rig probably uses Volvik golf balls. The fluorescent, matte finish, flaming hot pink ones!

i want everyone to take notice of what else is going on in those pictures. did anyone notice that in everyone, they are fishing a SHADED bank. most folks do not fish an area that provides a shade layer for the bass to stay in for better ambush advantage. the spring is about the only time that fishing a sunny bank is of advantage. a very good rule of thumb that i have followed over the years is to fish with the sun in my face. in doing that, you will most often be fishing underneath an edge that creates a shade layer of some kind. awesome bass guys!! bo

Be sure to cut an extra hole for catching foxes while you are out there fishing. Take a can of peas and open it up and place peas around the extra hole. Watch for foxes. When one sneaks up to take a pea just kick him in the ice hole. Use ice skimmer to scoop him into a gunny sack, BilletHead

    Fish Finders Again....

1st: I'm not doing 50 mph at night no matter what. 2nd: No way I'm trusting electronics to tell me where I'm at while under power. In fact, at night I either shut it off or tilt it down til I can't see it to get the light out of my eyes so I can focus on whats in front of me.

I use sunblock and a buff. Gotta protect the lips too, had some tissue frozen off my lower lip by the dermatologist. That was fun. But it took care of it, next step would've been the dreaded chemo ointment, thankfully it was not needed.

    Ice Fshing??

Some other things I've added to the ice fishing kit. Whistle, ice picks and strap on ice cleats. I've never took a life vest before but I've read where if you break thru that many times you catch yourself before going under, but you cannot get ahold of anything to pull yourself out before hyperthermia hits you. Therefore you use the ice picks for pulling yourself out. Fyi - good clothes, a heat source and shelter can make it more enjoyable sometimes.

Good advice Griz. I being a bald guy get pretty browned up as much as I'm outside... I try to remember and do a good job, but I need to do better... Wife got me some ultralight HUK hoodies to try this summer to keep the rays off me. I've heard they have good UV protection so I hope they work.

Cured some skin on mallard breasts and then cold smoked them over hickory/apple/cherry for about 3 hours. Cooled, wrapped in plastic wrap, and put in the fridge for a couple days. The result was seriously tasty duck bacon.

    Fish Finders Again....

I guess the point that Cabela's had this at $200 under list price was not any interest to anyone. How people use fish finders are as different and varied as to how many colors and sizes a plastic worm comes in, but how someone scoots across a lake at 50mph at night without a good GPS track to follow is beyond my skill set. Also if you troll on a lake like Beaver in 75-150 of water there are trees that stick up to within 15 feet of the top and watching my fishfinder is the ONLY way I know how to keep from loosing an umbrella rig when I am after deep fish. To each his own, but I started this thread about the how Lowrance had lowered prices on a NEW unit for 2018 instead of raising prices that had been the norm. This was in response to the Helix and now I am wondering which is the better per dollar spent. I am buying a new bigger unit mostly for the color mapping but would also like side scan just to know what is on each side of me without having to run over the area and watch it on my down scan all the time.

You learn that pretty quick when fishing for walleye too. The shadow cast from a boat slip works great too even when fishing deep tree tops....OK that's enough, time to be quiet. I probably just should have said "I noticed that too."

I'm now at the point of turning down free ball caps or giving them away. I'm looking for a decent boonie hat for this summer. I had six or so spots frozen on my last dermatologist's appointment last month, one of which was on the rim of an ear. I had a divot taken out of the rim of the other ear a few years back with the MOAS procedure. That's where the surgeon cuts out what he or she thinks is the worst of it. Then he scrapes the tissue thats left and takes it into the lab for a look to see if any cancer cells are left. In my case, it took three scraping sessions to get rid of the cancer over the course of three hours. It does sound worse than it was, but it costs about as much as a new Ultrex...

We use them all the time in Michigan. Up to 10" sucker minnows for Pike,Muskie. 4-5 " for Walleye down to pinheads (1 1/2 " ) for Crappie and Perch. Fresh caught Smelt for BIG Brown and Lake Trout.

    Ice Fshing??

We had some hairy experiences sampling lakes in PA during winter. We sampled during the day and again at night. To use our sampling gear we had to cut a 2 by 3' hole in the deepest part of the lake. One windy and moonless night my partner lost his footing and went onto the ice. It was so slick that the wind easily blew him across the lake towards the sampling hole. He stopped just as his feet went into the hole. The debris from opening the hole provided just enough friction to get him to stop. Being safe has be a major concern whenever you are on a frozen lake.

You know that I am all about helping fellow fishermen. If it means that I have to catch shad so they have real life examples for their paint jobs, then who am I to deny them the opportunity to look at the fish that I catch☺!

Being bald, I avoided hats due to ridiculous tan lines and “tried” to sunscreen. Now wear a hat and sun buff. Cheap amazon pack along with a freebie sun shirt from st Croix. Stick sunscreen for nose now. I’m not prone to burning but....Hoping to be a better example for my kids... it covers my ears which I am concerned with...and found it to be cooler in the heat of summer. Son took to it like nothing. Keep us posted on the follow ups. Unfortunately it’s likely a future event for some more of us. Too bad we can’t undo past decisions.

I've bought most of my gear from Rogers sporting goods (Liberty, Mo), Fish USA (online) and Craigslist. The further north you go, the better the selection on Craigslist. Not much better eating than gills through the ice. imo.

I've found that it works just as well when you pull the line through the grass. I take the end of the line with me when I go get the mail. Keep the rod tip low when you slowly reel it back in and drag the line through your lawn.

    When in Mexico

Look at the inner bays on the north end of Cozumel and you can mangrove fish for all 3 in knee deep water. All of them will run the beaches, especially in the summer months. Outstanding Jack fishing on the northern beaches of Cozumel year round. I should have knocked that off my fly rod list since I've netted a bunch for others but I've never caught one.

Snook just love topwater plugs. Tarpon will eat them too. Little bait fish & shrimp imitations are effective too. They will run the trough within a couple feet of the beach if you want to sight fish for them..

Speaking of "Ned" I would put the little collection acquired by dtrs5kprs, aka, "The Godfather" up against most. He has more peg boards than most people with pegboards have packages of lures to display! In fact, I'm pretty sure that he has pegboards for some of his pegboards. Speaking of which, where has that boy been? Youth football's been over for about six years now and I still ain't seen nor heard hide nor hair of him. The forum seems a little lean for this time of the year without him and the elusive Mr. Babler.

I like it, brother. But beware, one of my cold weather projects is going to be putting up another 8-foot section of pegboard. I think I'll use it just for my "defense buys" --- i.e., all the stuff I horde from Hook Line & Sinker just to keep Quillback from getting his mitts on it.

Listen, that canoing/gravel bar camping business y'all do while ultimately prepped for winter village life is CHILD'S PLAY compared to zipping across an open lake in a bassboat and staying out there on the deck with a rod in hand all day ! I mean you guys paddle a couple miles then play poker and sip booze in a heated cabin tent. GTFOH!
