Thank you, John, but trust me, the pleasure is all mine. This young man has helped restore in me a bit of confidence in today's youth. He's a wonderful kid and a pleasure to spend time with.

Livie got on the board with a Fallfish caught in a local lake on Saturday. Not only her first fish of 2019 but also the first of this species that she has ever caught.

You could also use them for hanging bird feeders, making wind chimes … lots of ways to recoup your money without sending them back out on the water. 🤣

I think if we just post vaccination stations at all the deer crossing signs on the roads, we'll get them all cured in 3-6 months.

    What's Cooking?

Seriously bad joke gentlemen. So tonight I finally get to prepare the delayed Valentine's dinner. I have the chocolate expresso mousse made. I will serve it with semi whipped cream and fresh berries on the side. The appetizer, curried shrimp with mango basil sauce, is made and ready to assemble. The lobster tails are bagged with butter and ready to go in the sous vide. I have the asparagus chopped for the side dish, asparagus risotto, and the Parmesan grated. The chilled bubbles are ready to come out. Let the festivities begin!

    2019 Garden Thread

Big fan of starting indoors here. For one, it’s kinda fun to do and watch during this dreary time of the year. Also get to control temperature, moisture, numbers, etc. Started 48 cells / 6 varieties of lettuce today. On heat mats now—will transfer to shelves in the basement under lights once they get a good start. Maters in a few days.

    Your first fish of 2019

Finally broke the ice, 12" smallie in Tennessee on my new Tackle HD Helgrammite. NO pic, cameras buried in dry bag. 15 degrees when I rolled out at 3 am yesterday. Guides were still iceing up at 9 when we hit water. Fishing tributary off TN River in jet boat. Pattern for the last few trips was TRD California Craw in backwater at edge of main currents where the water was a little warmer. I put on the Helgrammite, same size and almost the same color, but with a little more action on the paddle tail. Texas rigged with 3/16 oz weight. Seemed to do the trick, but they were going after the TRD color better. It was slightly darker.'' Spent the day catching a few more, nothing to write home about. Nice cool day for a jet boat ride. Love the new lure, should work out when the water warms up some. Temps yesterday were hovering between 46 and 50, about a 50/50 split between largemouth and smallies.

    Mid Lake 2/18

Finally found some fish that would eat something other than an A-RIG. Took awhile for them get going but the sun helped pull em up just enough to nip a Jerkbait. From 12-330 we had 6 good bites. I talked to Fisherman before they started biting for me and he was working on a good bag up the river. These fish are fat and healthy. With the right conditions these big girls are sliding up getting warm. It's gonna take 5 of these to do good in the next several tournaments that are coming up. Wt: 43-44. Good luck guys.

They have definitely bought into Craig Beurubes coaching style I think! And having a goalie right now with a 1.69 GAA doesnt hurt either! That Ryan Oreily deserves alot of credit as well hes a heck of a hockey player . He wins ALOT of faceoffs for the blues!

YOu can go a couple miles up from Taney in a prop boat. Ive caught plenty of bass up there. Lots of suckers run up ther in the spring and ive seen a lot of crappie hanging around brush when ive been up there. Didnt have any crappie gear with me at the time but there were a bunch. It doesnt take much to make it flow pretty good but usually clears up real fast. Im sure you could catch trout up there pretty easy in the colder months too

oh that deer, that is the one that belonged to you. Too bad. You all know that the feds have a law requiring identification of all hunters- it's part of collecting child support from deadbeat dads and moms, MDC didn't make that law. Your favorite congressman was the guy in Washington DC that submitted that and a past US President signed it. Take this complaint up with Trump.

I haven't used the Carbonlites. But I'd recommend the Major Craft Nanoace crankbait rods (available from Tackle Warehouse). They have a couple different models and they are in that $110 price range.

The antler restrictions along with the liberal antlerless tags created a more effective tool to manage the herds. They limited the harvest of young bucks by guys that wanted meat over antlers which shifted meat hunting to does. Kill one doe and you effectively remove three deer out of next years herd size. Possibly 5 to 6 out of the following year and so on. One buck only takes out one buck. In many places that signficantly dropped the population where the MDC has shifted the nimber of tags that you can purchase in those areas to prevent possible overharvest. For those ranting on this thread about overpopulation of deer are glossing over tthe fact that the MDC are not the ones deciding to pull the trigger or not. They only set the regulations. Wrench your neighbors and yourself are the ones to blame for the abundant deer in your area. With all the farming in MO there is an artificially high carrying capacity.. As JDW stated disease is always a way to vastly rebalamce a population. We just don't like seeing it. Its a similar issue with bass size in many impoundments. If folks all advocate catch and release there is the potential to have abundant but stunted bass. Slot limits that allow harvest of small bass are only effective if people harvest those small bass.

A deeded piece of property with my name on it would prove your words wrong, as well as the legal system. Because it is mine, i can sell it, pass it down, trade it, donate it, etc. Yes it is mine as long as im alive.

Tuesday, my neighbor, who between him and his sister, own the 850 acres that borders my 126, on 2 sides. We got to chatting about a neighbor kid he let’s hunt his property. He stated “I let him hunt on my farm tags, because I don’t hunt myself, and those deer eat out of my cattle feeders daily, so I’m feeding the deer on my property, and that grain cost me money that those deer are eating”. I have owned the appropriate sized land to get farm tags for at least 20 years, and think I have got those tags maybe 4 times. I buy tags because i hunt on friends land as much as my own. I have never blinked an eye about buying tags, because I hunt land other than mine. If I chose to hunt only my land, and not a single penny from any state agency goes towards the specific deer on my property, nor my property, then why do I need a tag from a state agency? Anyone know how I can get my share of MDC monies for the damage, feed, etc. that the “state” owned deer cause? Or the insurance rate hike from hitting a few with my vehicle while on state roadways? If they belong to the state, shouldn’t the state be required to pay for any and all damages they cause?

    What's Cooking?

Another thing to share from today, Grilled walleye po' boy sandwich. Wanted grilled instead of fried fish for this sammich. I olive oiled a couple pairs of walleye fillets then dusted them with creole seasoning. Put in grilling basket as Pat made tangy coleslaw and remoulade sauce. The hoagie buns were toasted and po' boy assembled. We looked at tomatoes at the market but pale and I am sure tasteless so tomatoes would not be disgracing this sandwich. A few chips on the side and it was game on, Enough for a second round and I think it will be breakfast tomorrow morning! BilletHead
