My first time fishing the Little Piney. Went to the Lane Spring Campground. Started about 10:30 am and fished until 4:00 pm. Water was very clear. Caught 30 trout total but most of them were dinks. I had 5 or 6 decent sized ones in the 9 to 12 inch range. Caught the majority on an elk hair caddis in size 16. The second most popular was a BH prince hare nymph in size 12. It was a beautiful day with sunshine and a high of 73. I wish I lived closer. 4 hour drive oneway is a killer.

Don't forget the best part that you experienced/ helped your 86 year old Grandpa catch his personal best walleye. Had a great trip. Stayed at cabins on Stockton lake which met our needs very well.

    Big Bash Bass this weekend

I actually pulled up to a main lake point that has big brush pile that is about 15-20 deep and threw my deep running crankbait to come through it and ended up getting 5 fish there and 3 of them were keepers. Every time i felt it hit the brush and come through i would get a fish. There were two guys fishing in a really nice Nitro with dual power poles across the point from me and after i caught those fish they came over slowly and said hope you don't mind we came over but man we had to know what you're doing. They said we been fishing all day and not gotten squat and they were pre-fishing for this Costa tournament this weekend and we are not from around here and said we see you pull up and catch 5. So I showed them the crankbait and we talked a bit and i wished them luck. One thing i know from experience, i could pull up to that point 5 different times and not get anything and then on the 6th time they have decided to feed and they eat whatever is pitched in there and it can be fun.

We fished from KC to Indian point. We caught 8-9 but only one keep 3 lb smallie on a finesse jig. Topwater bite was not around. The jig was the most productive. The LM my dad caught on a underspin in a dock slip pre-fishing. The spot was 14.5" caught out of a cedar tree on a bluff wall.

    Mallard flank feathers

I tie a lot of jigs using mallard flank or gadwall feathers, killer jigs for crappie, bass and about anything else. If you think about it send me some feathers from the ducks you harvest and I will tie some jigs for you in exchange for the feathers.

    Big Bash Bass this weekend

Went out on the shallow flats after some Whites yesterday evening and failed to connect with any, but did catch 3 keeper LM and 6-8 shorts (where the Whites SHOULD BE) in no time at all. No brush or cover anywhere close, so they are just cruising the shallow open water. I was hucking streamers on the 7wt., but if I was looking to catch a limit of green bass today I'd get out there and fan cast a 1/2oz. RedEye Shad over 3-7 foot of water.

If you guys think that I'm even looking at any of those photos much less opening a friggin' video you're nuts! Again, none of you seem to be showing a lick of respect for my sensitivity issues. Now I'm going to have to go to my safe space and cuddle with my stuffed puppies and maybe get creative with my play dough........ Much too stressed to even think of crayons and coloring. You're all a bunch of big meanies! ๐Ÿ˜ก ๐Ÿ˜

I may not be the best to answer this question due to the amount of times I get to fish the lake, but here goes. I would assume it would change often due to water flow, time of year, time of day, and how you like to fish. For us we started at fall creek and on our first drift we went all the way to Cooper Creek boat ramp. We had a few flurries of action along the way and as the current felt like it was getting slower, we decided to motor back up. On the second drift we stopped at Lilleys, third trip we stopped just below Trout Hollow. After that we decided to run down towards that landing and fish around there and get lunch. After lunch we drifted from the island through the bridges and to the Fish House. We caught some fish at every stop, but we liked the first drift from fall creek to just above Lilleys the best for us. This was the fastest moving water and we liked that. The drift from the Island to the Fish House was the slowest drift, but we still caught fish there too. I normally fish for bass and I like to use crank baits, so I am usually moving when I fish. That may be why I liked the upper drift the best. If you normally fished for catfish or crappie, you may like the slower drifts. As far as why we stopped where we did, we would stop when the bites were slowing up drastically. If there was a long time between bites, it was time to move to where the bites were. It is kind of crazy that most of the bites were in the same general areas every time.

That is a worthy cause, good on you! Why do the wings have to be smoked or grilled?...I like them deep fried. Crispier skin, and your sauce is your sauce.

    Drifting below fall creek

I took several friends down over the weekend for some good times and good fishing. We started Friday drifting below fall creek. We threw just about everything to start with, power worms, jigs, jerk baits and worms. It took us until about 11 to realize that drifting the crawlers was going to be the best bet for numbers. We were using a #6 circle hook and #5 round split shot on 4 lb mono and a 4lb floro leader. The circle hook helps with very few of them getting hooked deep. I have started adding a bobber stop below the weight to help prevent the weight from slipping down to the hook. This way I don't have to crimp the split shot down so hard it kinks the line. We ended up with about 20-25 fish on Friday, mostly on worms. Went back out Saturday and only used worms. We found out late on Friday that pinching the worm into 1/3 instead of 1/2 got us more bites. I think that the smaller worm would make them get it all the way in the mouth. When using 1/2 worm, we got a ton of tugs but not as many commits. We went through 3 boxes of 18 worms in 2 days, pinching them in 1/2 and 1/3. We had about 45-50 fish on Saturday. With the rain on Sunday, we didn't go back out. We had a great weekend and loved spending time with good friends.

Dag blasted fish with the teeth

Went out Saturday 10/5 in search of those toothy critters. Did really well bottom bouncing in 25-30 fow. Pulled 6 keepers in the boat. Threw 2 back that weโ€™re right on line but decided not to be greedy. And had 2 shorts and 2 REALLY short ( more on that later), with the occasional bass and sunfish. Fished from 7am-4pm again, the bite was strong early morning till just after noon it seemed to start slowing down. Then from 2-4 seemed almost non existent. Was a great day on the water with my dad and uncle. Very limited boat traffic which was nice. So about those 2 REALLY short fish. Need some help identifying them. They looked like walleye fry. Both came from getting snagged and circling back to retrieve it. The first time we had a big laugh, joking about if heโ€™s a keeper or not. Then saying we could never do that in a million years. Well sure enough another snag later same thing happened, so the laughing started up again. But if someone could identify what it actually is that would be awesome.

I am still looking to buy another used boat. Ive been pretty lucky with the past 4 used boats but I did get burned on a used motorcycle once... SO now I am older & more cautious with my retirement money. Is the boat version of Carfax worth it ? There is a company called boathistoryreport.com that is very similar to carfax but for boats. They provide you with a history report (their "carfax") and it contains information like if the boat was in an accident, salvaged, damaged in a hurricane and several other features. Not to self... Check vin numbers twice VERY carefully (dont ask how I know this). Thanks for your replies. Will

Corps land around the lake gets PLENTY of pressure, unfortunately. That's not to say if you put in the time and do your homework you still couldn't have some nice hunting trips around the area, because you most certainly can. Good luck!

Twice, two weeks ago I hung the square bill up and I was giving it slack to see if it would float loose and both times it got smoked!

The four keepers i caught Sunday were all on crainkbaits. I use a deep runner on main lake points and a squarebill around docks. Caught plenty of fish but no money fish.

    Big M area, October 1

First time out on the Rock since August 6. Launched the boat just as it was getting light and headed down the lake. Spent about the first hour tossing spoons, and top waters at scattered fish chasing shad on top. Could not get a bite. Switched up to jigs and shaky head off a steep bank and still nothing. I was starting to wonder if I was going to get skunked. In desperation, I motored over to a gravel runout where I had caught some last time I was out almost two months ago, threw a c-rigged worm on the point, boat was sitting in 30 FOW, and I noticed some fish showing up on the graph under the boat. I did not have a drop shot setup rigged as I was not planning on fishing the dang thing, but there were the fish and I had not boated one yet. Got set up, dropped it down, and had a spotted bass in about 10 seconds. Spend most of the rest of the morning drop shotting. Caught several off the first spot, then the fish moved out. Bounced around to a few other spots and would pick one up here and there, never was hot fishing, but I would get a bite or two at just about every spot I tried. Didn't see them schooled either except at the first spot I found them. Put a dozen 13-15 inch spots in the boat. There are a lot of shad scattered about and some bass are chasing them out in the channel. I caught my biggest fish, a 2.5 lb. spot on a Whopper Plopper at 9:30 AM out in the channel, a couple of casts later hooked the only smallmouth I saw today on the WP only to see it jump 3 feet out of the water and toss the Plopper. Might have been a 2 lb. fish. They were just too scattered to get a good top water bite going, but maybe the up coming weather change will get them going. A few swimming under the boat.

Attached a few more pics. As someone who has never been there...the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area lakes look very intriguing...since they are close to St. Louis. What are your guys' experiences and reviews of those lakes? Are they worth going to? Too much pressure, or not too crowded?
