    What's Cooking?

Fishing buddy came by to visit yeaterday and handed me a couple big wally fillets and said don't freeze them.. not a problem! Fried walleye, fried taters and onions, wilted salad with lots of bacon, onions and radishes. I can feel myself healing with this in my belly!

    May 7 - 9 Report

My self and a few buddies headed down last thursday for our spring trip. Typically we hit bull in the spring but with all the high water, the rock was this springs choice. We got on the water late morning thursday and fished all day. Endes up fishing from dam down to brushcreek. Found a lot of goid size fish on thursday. Friday was a different story with all the wind and rough water we ended up staying close to resort. Saturday we went out late since water temp was 37 in the morning and decided to trailer up to cow creek. Fished from 10 - 4 and only caught 3 keepers that day but ended up with 17 on the day. Lots of shorts caught on ned rig. Bigger fish came on tubes, swimbaits, jigs. Smallmouth in cutts of main lake in pea gravel. Largemouth caught of docks and back of creeks. Found lost of shad in back of creek in little cow creek. Had a mini weigh in for big fish, but were all let go at the resort.

    Shell knob 5/2 and 5/3

Fished the same area this weekend, not as much schooling activity but you could still call them up with a spook. Some nice small mouth and a double this morning, that one went 4lb 14oz with a 17"k A few on the Dixie jet, megabass 110+1 and swim baits did the majority of the damage, out to 35ft with the slick conditions

Fished from 0600 until noon. There was a topwater bite early, caught a few on a 4" Yozuri pencil popper, scattered fish chasing shad, didn't see any schooling activity. Had a drought after the topwater bite tailed off, caught one here and there, but nothing consistent and had a stretch where I bet I had 10 bites and only boated 2 of them - this was on a 3.8 Keitech swimming it off the bank out into 20 FOW. Keitech bite picked up a bit later in the morning until I left at noon. They got active chasing shad, again they were scattered, but if you could get on them they would bite. Finished the day with a couple of smallmouth that were right up on a gravel bank with a stiff wind blowing in. Caught 20 bass, 9 or 10 keepers, but no large keepers, biggest was a 17" largemouth. Gizzard shad are spawning, had some chasing the Keitech, they'd tap it sometimes but just couldn't get it.

I've been out of yeast for months and have not seen any in stores since Feb. My mother-in-law was kind enough to share some yeast and her focaccia recipe with me.

    Big Trout Abound

Twenty inches was set back in 1997 as the brown trout keeper size. That set up what is considered to be a trophy trout on our lake. We've been giving out trophy catch and release certificates and pins since then. I think I have a record of all of them caught and recorded. And no, I'm not going to go back and count. I would be interesting to know how many we've registered over the years. But this spring, I believe, has to be the busiest we've been for recording big trout, mainly browns. This week - one guy landed 13 browns. Rob Dickerson from Kansas. I believe the biggest was 23 inches but he had many other browns either swipe or chase his bait that were much bigger - and smaller. I know of 8 other brown caught and released. And there's rainbows too. I have 2 in 2 days over 20 and Blake's friend had one this evening. And I see others on Facebook that were caught. Our trout are acting differently too, more like wild trout. They're chasing bait fish, other smaller trout. They're starting to take dries - bugs on the surface. Not just midging but being very aggressive about it. They're fighting very hard when hooked. It just feels different since they've dropped generation and we're seeing more activity.

Be a little careful with those TH handles too. I had the little handle stop thing come off of one of them. Those little allen head screws are just awful small to have any real holding power. I like the product overall, but I'm a bit gunshy given that I've installed two and had one fail. Ended up going to the hardware store and buying a cable stop made for dog tie ups. It doesn't fit in the molded plastic handle, but it has two larger screws and more surface area to hold onto the wire. It's not coming off with any load I can put on it.

Al what is your alternative? Issues with universal/government supported or fully funded health care system can lead to lack of innovations due to limited governmental funds available. The you get what you pay for situation. Currently those countries that have those systems like Canada and the UK benefit from the big pharma generating drugs in a for profit scenario. Ask yourself and maybe do the research on whether your wife would have had the care that she did and the medications/treatments that she used if she were in the UK or Canada? How long would she have had to wait for those treatments? Also would those medications been developed under their system? Maybe they would have, though I tend to doubt it.

I think the question is should we trust the goevernment? I for one do not. Not that I believe all the tin foil conspiracy stuff, but my lack of trust comes from first hand experience of them being incompetent failures over and over again... the older I get the less trust I have.

Let’s get a couple of things straight. 1.Im not an anti Vaxxer 2. I’m not wearing blinders 3. You can’t teach me sh*t Now lets get back to the subject. According to AL, if you go to college, you On average are at least better educated. Therefore since more people are going to college than ever before, I’m not agreeing with your anti intellectual comment. It’s more of an anti trust problem. People don’t trust the government or the news media anymore and are looking with a much more skeptical eye.

    COVID-19 - Coronavirus 2019-nCoV

I went through engineering school for electrical engineering, doesn't mean squat as far as I'm concerned other than the fact I can do complex levels of calculus... I use absolutely zero percent of anything related to my degree in over 20 years of IT... I have multiple family members in the healthcare careers up to including doctors who agree what the education systems have become is all driven by money and politics. It's a shame. And it's not a matter of me thinking I'm smarter than a doctor, but I do believe with my bio engineering background I could of went down that path. IT pays better, cheaper education, with less stress and allot less school. My wife feels the same way in regards to nurses and nursing schools. Anyone that has spent time in a hospital knows the nurses are the ones who run things. Im not trying to say any old dope can be a doctor, but if you don't think they turn out bad ones, or bring in foreign ones with lower standards then not sure what to tell you.

Hey Bill I just reread your post and something has got to be wrong. I can honest to gosh deploy, retrieve and stow mine easily with one hand while seated. Almost had Mark take a video today to post to demonstrate but didn’t get around to it. On the pond to the east, I've caught a few fish on a Sammy, one on a Fin, and a couple on the bigger size Lucky Craft Gunfish, which is very shower blows like. I'm a topwater addict, so I've been force feeding them a bit, but of all of them, the Sammy seems to be best. Could also be that im throwing the Sammy the most

    COVID-19 - Coronavirus 2019-nCoV

Man, been gone for a few days and this thread continues to grow... watched the video, it's way far out there, but Fauci is not some savior of the medical world... YouTube censoring, what else is new... Anyone with ties to Soros should be listed as questionable in my book. I'm no Democrat or Republican, most would label me conservative, but I'm just a God fearing, freedom loving, red neck turned city slicker. The truth is our freedoms can be taken away and certain parties and states are demonstrating that right at this very moment. That should be waking people up. As for doctors being more intelligent than others, what do you call a person who graduates last from med school... A doctor. My wife's a nurse, she's worked peds, oncology, and general practice. If you think there are not doctors out there who are incompetent, stupid, or just a pill pusher for pharma, I got news for you. Plenty of idiot doctors who'd rather write you a quick Rx for a kickback than actually diagnose a problem... Don't get me started on the health insurance abominations like my $1600 for health insurance, or my daughter's $4000 a month prescriptions so she doesn't have seizures...(she's off that med now, but that was an actual legitimate cost they gave me at the pharmacy) It's a all a big scam... I worked for big pharma, and big agriculture, the levels of shadiness know no bounds in these companies. The last 10 years it seems to have gotten monumentally worse. Stay safe out there everyone. Don't touch your face.

    County park crappie

With the re-opening of many of the county parks including my favorite crappie lake I went out yesterday morning to give it a try despite the rainy, windy conditions. Lake is way up but still managed to find a few fish. First one was the biggest. Thought I had my first 15 incher but she was only 14.75 inches so I'm going back today and try again. I release all crappie over 13 inches hoping to catch a giant here one day. They aren't spawning yet so might find some even bigger in the next week or two.

I bought a 2012 Proteam 190 Tracker with a 115 merc (finest outboard in the world according to wrench) used in 2015 at a greatly reduced price. No regrets. It suits me pretty well. I haven't weighed the tongue but when I lift it. I get about 1/8th inch eye bulge and two small veins on my forehead. So I would somewhere around 200 pounds is a good estimate.

It will be interesting to see if MDC's fall sampling shows a decent sized 2019 year class. They should have been 5-6 inches now. I haven't seen any of those, but I don't use minnows. You tend to catch more of the smaller fish with minnows. BLACK crappie tend to reproduce better in and inhabit clearer water, whites are the opposite. So, if you have several years of clear water conditions black crappie populations usually increase. That's why Truman lake has mostly whites, it is a more turbid lake.. Also, whites seem to be a little easier to catch so as fishing pressure increases more whites get harvested.

    Crappie time

We finally got some warmer temps so I decided to give the crappie itch a scratch. Despite the windy conditions the last two days I managed to find some slabs that were fat and hungry for my float n fly's. Most were in the 12-14 inch range but caught some smaller crappie and gills as well.
