Took my yearly trip on the Jack’s Fork with my dad. Took my 13 year old on his first excursion on Jacks! Was a beautiful day and the river was perfect! Numbers were not as high as normal, but size of fish caught was fantastic. I caught a 2 lb smallie and on my sons next cast he caught a solid 1.5 lb smallie. Caught several between a pond to pound and a half throughout the day. My son lost at least a 2 pounder at the boat and I lost what would have been my personal best smallmouth that I know was 3+. Very disappointing to see her jump and spit my plastic worm at me. Overall it was a great day and my son is ready to go again. Having my father with us just makes it even more special. We have floated the river since I was old enough to go and he still won’t let me run the canoe, even if it means he doesn’t get to fish as much as I do! As I look at the river levels today after the big rain we sure are glad we went yesterday. This post has been promoted to an article

    6-7-20 Report

Got down about 9am and landed four decent sized fish in the first 30 minutes on the orange wacky power worm and a white trout magnet. Those fish were cleaned and put on ice in a cooler and then I went and walked around the hatchery for a bit with the fiance. After that was done, I went down to the bathroom hole. White trout magnet was getting lots of interested again. I caught 4 or 5 more and then let the fiance catch one (free fishing weekend so no tag required) and then we headed out. I thought the fish bite was decent, but saw very few trout caught by others. You had to keep the bait near the bottom or you didn't get bit. Water had just enough stain that it was hard to see the fish tight to the bottom, but they were there just ahead of the dumps. People asked me if I was being forced to wear a mask due to Covid-19. Nope, I'm just a white boy who burns easily and sheds like a snake!

    Bad Boy

I have been a very bad boy. Garmin 126SV 12" and a Garmin 102SV 10" I took it out yesterday morning to calibrate the Force and sync it with the electronics. Saw a fish down about 23' on the Panoptix 50' from the boat. Eased toward it and it came right into the 2D sonar view I dropped on it and caught it on a drop shot. First drop shot fish of the year. Amazing technology. Garmin Force with Panoptix Livescope. I need to sell my Minn Kota Ultrex so if your interested its on Buy Sell Trade. Make any offer on it you want and it will be considered. I sold my HDS 9 Touch I had on the bow in about 15 minutes thru Buy Sell Trade. The trolling motor had 2 issues right out of the box, they replaced the rise and lower piston and a week later they replaced the Lower Unit. I bought it in March of 2019 and had the two incidents before the month was over so it kind of scared me but has worked perfect since. A new one with tax is $2,750.00 plus installation. My Garmin guy told me to price the Ultrex at the price I have listed as that is about a $1,000.00 off a new one and its only a year old. Good Luck

    Tough day

Pretty tough day...managed one white bass to hand...missed several rainbow swipes at the brown zonker jig and a couple more on a tiny rattle trap...made some neat low water discoveries including one of the jigs I lost last week, a crawdad the size of a baseball, and some sculpin. Still a great evening to be out in God's creation!

Bank of Dad sure brings back memories. Used to have a Bank of Dad account for each kid. Even printed them checks. Allowance went in the ledger, needed to write me a check for a withdrawal. They’d always ask me how much they had and they’d be so surprised how it added up. Couldn’t get them to turn over birthday or Christmas cash after a couple years though. Anyhoo, tried a new recipe tonight from Chef John at Food Wishes. Love his recipes and videos. Creamy Bay Scallops and Pasketti. Used whole scallops and quartered them. Sautéed with butter, garlic, lemon zest, red pepper flakes, sherry, parsley, heavy cream, lemon juice, Parmesan and more parsley. Tossed in linguine. Good schtuff and will do again!

    Heaven for Outboards

It quit running back in early '90's and had set in a shed since then. Everything rubber needed replaced, the gears and shafts we're all fine, and the piston rings were kinda sticky. A quick parts availability search indicated that everything I would likely need to refresh the entire motor was still available (surprisingly) so since the guy had titles for them I bought it and it's sisterfor next to nothing. Tore one down completely, ordered all the parts (new piston rings, seals, diaphragms, water pump, ects.) gave the cylinders a fresh honing, reassembled, tuned, and painted. Good as new. 2 pulls on a cold start....half a pull the rest of the day. 👍 I'll start on his sister after July 4th. 😊

Mapping is fantastic with no need for additional info Garmin uses a Lake Vu and all my depth ranges are colored. Really looking forward to that as it lets you know your in the strike zone when your in the right color. My mount is the Prospective Mt. Waypoints transfered in 2 minutes not problem at all. I was going to get out today, but to windy. I'll be on the water with it in the morning.

    Defunding our police..

That's a very "outside looking in" statement. What you are calling the "truly good LEO's" have a hiccup. In every department the good cops know who the jackasses in their department are, yet they cover for them, and do nothing to get them corrected or removed. Whether out of loyalty, or just because they don't wanna stir crap in the department. If there were truly some honest to goodness GOOD (oath abiding) COPS....then a bad one wouldn't last 2 weeks on the job. Ever! I also have to roll my eyes everytime I hear you say "they put their life on the line everyday". That's BS. They have all the coolest toys, have immediate access to as much backup as they need before advancing on anyone, and unless they slept through training they know the best and SAFEST way to handle every situation. Plus, if you scare them they can just kill you. I mean c'mon.... A job driving a truck, a job working on machinery, a job mowing lawns, or a job at a convenience store... is 100 times more dangerous than being a cop. I'm not sure what "defunding" means in that instance, but I'm pretty sick of the M.O. of most all city and county law enforcement agencies. I dislike the way they actively look for someone to arrest for any reason. It's obvious to me that they are being trained and hired to fill the courtrooms Monday thru Friday every week, all year long. Of course every community needs law enforcement, but that doesn't justify quotas and standing room only court rooms 5 days a week. Especially if they are already receiving funding from other avenues. I'd be afraid that "defunding" is just going to make them even MORE greedy for YOUR dollars. It certainly isn't going to make police harrassment LESS. Everyone should have already learned that the way to be LEFT ALONE by the police is to FEED THEM WELL beforehand. 🙄 If George Floyd delivered pies to the justice center every other Tuesday, he'd not only still be alive, he would have been able to say "What? A counterfeit $20 ? Where the hell did THAT come from?" And they'd be actively looking for who actually printed it. 😉 But nope, I'm betting there's no ongoing investigation on the maker of the alleged fake dough. Find some evidence that Floyd was involved in counterfeiting cash.....and all this crap would be over.

I found the following information from this link: How was the water control plan developed? When were the last changes made? back to topThis plan has a lengthy history. In 1942, the Basis of Design for Definite Project Report was developed, which included the original studies for the method of operation for Bull Shoals and Norfork. This report helped establish the size of the flood and conservation pools in each lake. In 1952, the Plan of Flood Regulation for Bull Shoals and Norfork Reservoirs was developed. This reports described the proposed plan of regulation for Bull Shoals and Norfork. In 1954, the Master Manual for Reservoir Regulation of the White River Basin was first developed. This described the operating criteria for Bull Shoals, Norfork, and Greers Ferry. In 1963, the Reservoir Regulation Manual for Beaver, Table Rock, Bull Shoals, and Norfork Reservoirs was developed. This was revised in 1966. In 1993, the Master Manual for Reservoir Regulation for White River Basin was developed. No changes to the Water Control Plan were made, only basin conditions were updated. The economic analysis showed that changing the allocation of storage for purposes other than flood control, hydropower, or water supply was not economically justified. In 1998, after years of additional study, a revision to the water control plan was made that lowered the regulating stages on the White River. Why not lower lake levels in the winter to prepare for spring rains? back to topWhile lowering lake levels in the winter to prepare for spring rains does in effect increase the size of the flood pool, at the same time it takes away from hydropower and water supply storage. The Corps does not have legal authority to do this. The current allocation of storage for flood damage reduction was approved by Congress. Changing that allocation would require Congressional action. Also, that is a very risky suggestion because there is no way to forecast long-range how much or how little rain will fall. If the Corps artificially lowered lake levels in the winter and spring rains did not come, a shortage of water to generate electricity, meet the needs of water utilities or provide viable recreation opportunities could ensue. The water supply and power users pay for that storage. If the drought progressed, instead of recovering, lake levels could continue to drop and cause an extreme water shortage. How can the Operating Plan be changed to improve conditions for me? back to topProposed changes to the operating plan would require authorization and funding by Congress to study the impacts. All user groups would have input on changes they desire, even though each change to benefit one group would have a negative impact on another group or groups. These impacts would need to be communicated to all stakeholders in the basin and a new plan developed and coordinated before it could be implemented. In the end, substantial changes in operations are unlikely because of the substantial impacts they would cause, and there is no way to predict the outcome of less significant changes (who wins, who loses).

    Little late 6/6/20 crappie

Little late with this... Got out Saturday 5am till about noon... Didn’t put a minnow in the water until about 6:30... Back in November I got a new graph and just got around to putting it on at the wheel a couple weeks ago. Just rather go fish. It’s a Humminbird Helix 10 si Mega. Got to playing with all the bells and whistles of it. Once getting started I got bit right away and stayed pretty steady until about 9 when it shut off. Was catching them in 37-25 fow about 11 to 13 feet down. After 9 I lost them. Took about an hour to get back on a pattern. Moved out along the channel edge and started marking fish 20 feet down or more in 25-27 fow. I put my baits down to 20 feet and finished out my limit after that. Getting hot. The trolling pattern, cranks, long lining, rigging ought to pick up and be a mad bite now. Good fishing and God Bless Lance This post has been promoted to an article

    Strange prediction

I’ve seen it so many times. Not running water until it’s too late and then having a major catastrophe. On my pool of the Arkansas River they decided to reclassify “flood pool” or whatever. They raised it 4 feet. I’ve got bottom land flooded way before we are in an official “flood”. To be fair, some of this land has flowage easement on it. When this was done it was for “occasional” flooding. If something is flooded every year to the point that it’s unusable is it really “occasional”? Sorry for venting, just frustrating having to make a living to pay the taxes to provide an operating budget to these goofs...

Bad to the Bone, but a major, major price tag if you have to pay retail. You have to be really careful, when I was calibrating it I did not have my bow butt seat in to lean on and it just about bucked me out. I came within a couple of inches of swimming. There is a learning curve on all the motors but everything on the Force is special. Gauges right on the trolling motor are fab. and everything syncs with the Garmin Graphs. If I'm running Hummingbird I would have stuck with the Ultrex. For Lowrance I would run the Lowrance Ghost or the new Motor Guide Tour Pro that's set up for Lowrance. I just ran it a bit yesterday pulled my 22" Phoenix on glass still water at 4.1 mph, so quiet you cannot hear it operating and when the head turns it is extremely quiet. Totally effortless deploy and retract, with two huge power pistons to assist both deploy and recovery. Only negative I have heard is you must strap it down on rough water if your going very far as it will bounce out of the cradle. Probably a function of the easy deploy retract. I'll let you know. Phil and I believe Duane installed there own on their boats but if your running the Garmin Electronics also, it is probably a tech job as there are updates to both motor and graphs sync jobs that have to be done to start. I got lucky on my install as a Garmin tech did it mostly as a friend of the Phoenix rep for me, It took us about 8 hrs. for the install, so there would be a pretty big price tag with that. All 4 brand new units needed 2 software upgrades. I also needed a complete new front panel and installed it on original Precision Sonar Stack. They make them for most every boat line and it totally reinforces the front end as with those two graphs its pretty heavy. If your just going to buy it off the shelf and have it done your probably going to have about 13 grand in it, so this type of technology is not inexpensive. Thank goodness I have a very good friend. I'll probably do the dash early next Spring if I have any money.

    I Probably Killed Everything

Look at the label, almost guarantee it is Glyohosate, which is the same stuff as Roundup. It is sold under a lot of brand names, Eraser is one of them, still just Basic Glyohosate usually 41%. It is a non selective herbicide, kills everything, however it does work well on grass, slightly less so on weeds unless mixed stronger and for things like locust and cedars it will kill some of it and tick off the rest. You also end up with a big dead spot around it from overspray. For brush and weeks something like Crossbow or Remedy, Clear Pasture, Grazeon, Garlon 4 etc. Is a killer. Locust, osage orange, redbud, mtuflora rose, cedar and Serecia Lespedeza it is death on.

While out on a one armed foray I stopped at a small market that is known for having a great meat counter. Asked which bologna they had was the best, no hesitation they selected one of the two choices they had. I asked for a half dozen thick, 1/4 inch or better, slices for my wife. She likes to fry the stuff, 6 slices were 1.25 lbs, couldn't being myself to take a photo of boloney, but she was sure excited.

    Topwater has begun

These are from a couple of days ago. They are starting to do their top water thing. I won't divulge exact spots, but just cruise until you see 8 boats with 5-6 people each in overalls. They have been following my boat since they crowded me at the weir. You might as well just butt in as they have no problem doing it to me or anyone else. As soon as anyone catches a hybrid, they will move to within 20 ft of you and cast lures within 3 ft of your boat. I don't think they are trying to be rude, I think it is just not considered rude in their culture? Better find them quick. The last 2 spots they did this to me at were fished out within a week, only leaving tons of whites in those areas. Pretty sure they show up 8 boats strong almost every evening because everytime I get to go back and fish, they either all show up or already on my waypoints when I get there, lol. I don't let it bother me too much anymore. Just challenges me to find them in another area of the lake and try to hide as long as I can, lol. Anyways, they are definitely biting great right now. Smallest fish in the pic is 7.2 lbs. Biggest was 13.4 lbs. That is a 152qt cooler. Good luck!
