    Honey Harvest 2020

July is here and time to pull the honey. 6 production hives this year, 3 at farm and 3 here. Harvested the farm today, 90+ degrees to keep me warm in the full bee suit. Learning well in my old age, wore all nylon wicking stuff underneath. Seems to cool better. Hit them at high noon on a clear sunny day and did not take a sting. Only a few bumps to the hood. Small Hive Beetles were thick in the hives as I pulled the honey frames. I was able to knock bees off of the frames and most of the beetles and boxed them up in tubs. Rushed to the house and set up extraction. Ended up with about 4 gallons which was pretty good considering how the season started in the spring. Going to fish in the morning then pull frames off the house hives. To be continued.

    Fishing Goals 2020

I have an honorable mention; not real a goal per se. I want to get a photo of all of the fish species that I have caught. After a couple of tries that failed mainly due to moving to MD and flooding, I pulled off a hail Mary and caught and photographed an Ozark bass. I used information provided to me from fellow OAF folks and picked a likely spot on Finley creek to give it another try. I was fishing a John Deere microjig about 14 inches under a float. I caught two green sunfish before getting an Ozark to bite and be photographed. Now if I can catch a Roanoke bass. May have to be a 2021 goal .

    Dogs.

Where you get into trouble is trying to be "polite" to the owner. I treat all dogs like they belong to me, and have never had a problem with anyone's dog. If they need to be kicked in the head then I just do it without waiting for the owner to "correct them". I get immediate respect from all dogs. I also don't hesitate to pet or play with a friendly one. I love dogs.

    Dogs.

Not really dogs, but the owners that fail to train them well. I have been bit by dogs doing my essential duties in the last 2 month. First was in May, she knew I was coming. Had 4 large dogs in the house and a full glass front. They were all chomping at the bit to get at me, she opened the door and they pushed her out of the way to get at me. The black mutt lunged at me and I deflected with the forearm and jacket caught the bite. It sit and growled at me while the rest of the stinking bunch rubbed all over me. Judges wife. Friday, friend of the boss. Little white yep dog poodle bowed up at me in the yard as I approached. "Don't worry, it don't bite." It kept it up barking and as soon as I turned away the little bas turd nailed me in the calf. "Bad Doggy, you apologize to him...." I made a whole $26 bucks on that deal. Thank God, I have been promoted to all commercial. Dealing with the publick is about to cause a death murder kill incident.

I don't like kids either....unless they are working and being somewhat productive. Which is even more rare than a good dog!

    Dogs.

Yeah, of all the breeds to choose from, pitbulls are the choice of all the crackheads around here. I don't have a problem with them except for the fact that I can't let MY DOG get around them. I couldn't care less if my Lab scraps with a Shepherd, Doberman, or another Lab, the worst that can happen is a torn ear or something.....But I don't want him fighting a pitbull, because they don't play by the same rules. Pitbulls will go for death with other dogs.

    Honey Harvest 2020

The hive beetles have not been bad here this year. We use oil traps in the top box and have only had a couple in 5 hives. We pulled 40 med. frames on fathers day and got 10 gallons. The frames are all full again so we are going to pull them again and should get 50 frames this time. Put the wets back and probably leave the honey they make for over winter. It is possible we get one more harvest. if it keep raining.

    Taney

I like to be referred to as a Native Missourian. I was born and raised here. Family came from Tennessee and I enjoy spending time there too exploring my heritage. I have no desire to see where they came from before. USA is the place to be.

    OMGOSH STURGEON BAY

Talk about a lifetime 5 place bucket lister. Man those guys are laying the steel to some incredible monster Jaw's. One of the leaders caught 16 brown fish over 4lbs. today. Simply unreal. Table Rock single day weight record is no more, as Justin Lucas just blows it up. Simply unbelievable fishing in Green Bay Wisconsin.

    OMGOSH STURGEON BAY

This exactly right...also consider that you cannot access most of the lake 50 or more percent of the time because of wind and weather during the summer season. I would say you might be able to fish the main lake 40 days a year. I also don't think you can really understand how big this place is until you have been there. From Green Bay to Washington Island it is a 85 mile by 20 mile wide stretch that 80 percent is fishable. It will sound like a lie if I told you numbers, but if you can be there when they spawn AND the wind doesn't blow (very hard to do) it is the most unbelievable thing you will ever see as a fisherman. In my 3 trips we were able to find 2 days where we could fish shallow humps in the main lake for spawning fish. Simple miraculous!

Watching some live coverage, they are rocking and rolling in the waves. Kind of like fishing the Rock when the wake boats are out in force.

    OMGOSH STURGEON BAY

Sturgeon Bay is part of Lake Michigan and that is one huge body of water. There are a multitude of factors besides supreme forage and thousands of acres of offshore structure. There are brown fish up there that will never see a bait of any kind. The fishing season is short and they are second string and probably close to 3rd string on the hit list. Probably 90% of 5 yr. old bass on the rock have seen a jig or a whopper pooper and probably 90% of 5 yr. old bass on Lake Michigan have never seen any type of artificial bait. While Lake Michigan fish are still in relax mode, ours are constantly dodging an A-Rig.

I have been to both several times. Was up on Milelacs this week. Sturegon Bay gets my vote every time and your wife will love Door County. It can bite you with rough weather but the bite is simply off the chain when they bite.

I know people on Mille Lacs dislike the brown bass. They compete with their beloved Walleye.

    OMGOSH STURGEON BAY

Doesn't most of the northern states and even Canada have closed seasons. Not that you cannot fish but you cannot target and must release immediately? Thus regulating pressure to some degree?
