I got out on Sunfish Lake on Sunday with the Mopar Vessel.  I had hooked into something large the last time, there while in my cedar-stripper and I fished the same cove for more than an hour throwing a tandem spinner bait, buzz bait, the Ned-Rig and a wiggle wart with no success.  I switched to an inline spinner and he hit it.  It was a fight on that spinning outfit.

    Ryan,
I did like the cold over the heat and humidity.  But I want to mention the sounds of summer.  My wife has developed a cough that is worse while at home.  I have taken to smoking a pipe outdoors and all of the sounds of a summer evening are very relaxing.

This just happened to me.  I was doing brakes on my '06 Dakota.  I was convinced the lug nuts were metric for a brief instant.  I could not get a 7/8's socket on some of them.  On the first one I tried to turn it without the socket fully on and rounded it -- a mistake that would make a 16-year old feel like an idiot.  I applied PB blaster every day for a week, bought a 23-mm socket, got all of them off but removed the damaged nut last -- I hammered that socket all of the way on that nut and it did turn.
The nuts have a chrome plating, the steel on the nut rusts and expands the chrome plating.  I replaced all of them with after-market steel-only nuts.
Thanks for reading -- I do feel better but have no idea how this topic started.

    ' Good thread, Ness.
That is my real name.  The picture is at Marble Creek camping about five years ago -- Bushmills and a cigar. Roger Willoughby is the character Rock Hudson played in "Man's Favorite Sport."  (It is just a character in a movie and has nothing to do with Rock Hudson).  He has become an authority on fishing and has never fished a day in his life.  He has learned everything from hearsay.  His employer does not know this and enters him in a fishing tournament.  It is a hilarious movie.  I can talk fishing with the best of them -- catching fish....now that is an entirely different issue.

I have still to see anything published on what decision has been made by the USFS.  I had the solo out there last week.  The water is up to the new boat ramp.  I paddled to the dam, got out and looked down.  The dam does have a lot of structural issues.  The new road allows access to the dam and I picked up a lot of beer cans.  It is getting as bad in rural areas as it is in my neck-of-the-woods up here.  Now, that biologist says the redear population has increased because of the oxygen generated by the vegetation.  It is just that I do not have a plan for catching them.  I started catching bluegill -- better than average.  The next day I had a bucket and all I caught were small bass.
I got a kick out of it all, though.

Now I know the rest of the story.
Back in the 80's, I found this lake.  I was never a lake fisher from the get go.  But I learned quick, Spring floods ruin streams.  You have to have a back up plan.  Crane lake came up somehow.  Exploratory trip with the canoe hanging out the back of the Mazda pickup, 6' of bed and 17' of boat.  You could counter balance it with camping gear and it would not break down the middle "much".  Big ole stinger.
Crane Lake, miles off the beaten track.  Used to have a nice little camping area and a boat ramp.  We could drive up after work and pop a tent.  Run a trout line out.  Build a nice fire and have a good nite camping.  Get up, run the line and take care of the catch.  Then grab the rods and work the lake in the canoe.  Hop out at the dam and fish the stream outflow below the dam.  Enjoy youth and life at its best.  And bring home a nice mess of fish for the freezer.  It was a nice peaceful hide away we could use from time to time.
I caught a nice 16 lb channel cat below the spillway on a ultralight and 4 lb test with a buddy assisting.  I watched F4 Phantoms out of Lambert buzzing the lake on low altitude passes, they would tip the wings and wave at us when we would wave back from the canoe.  Then I made another friend that knew about it too.  We tried to sink a boat there one time by accident, he had replaced a battery the night before and busted the livewell fitting letting water gush in.  I noticed it out in the middle of the lake when my ankles started getting wet.  I have teal hunted it in the morn and took the blind down to fish.  I paddled it in the yak one morning in the moonlight to duck hunt one Thanksgiving morn.
35 years of enjoying the lake.
Over the years to follow it changed under the NFS management.  They closed off the camping and removed the toilet.  They failed to keep the meth heads out  and let them ruin what was left.  They decided the lake needed to be choked with lily pads and coontail grass and planted some.  They let the road go.  They drained it.  Now they just decided to kill it.
Exploring the future of Crane Lake.
I never knew it was started as a private lake.

The wife and I decided to take our other grandson fishin' on Tuesday 5/28 and we had a ball. They ate the Ned Rig so good last week so I tied one on for everybody and they are still eating it up.....I taught Ethan how to fish with a spinning rod and how to work the Ned Rig. I even gave him my fishing pole. He started catching them really good.....then he started getting cocky......So I had to show him who's boss..... It was a great day. We caught fish and laughed until we cried several times. The boy is a blast to fish with. My wife was the camera "man" all day and did an excellent job. What a day....

Work all the time and don't enjoy doing anything for fun! What a way to live! Don't want to be considered a slacker, or does that only pertain to things that don't interest you? Last time I checked, I accomplished just as little watching a Cards game as I did chasing little brown bass on a river. The fishing was more fun though.

I get to go be a slacker on the 21st watching a Cards game at Busch and then turn around and be a slacker on the 25th while fishing a bass tournament. I'm looking forward to being a low life slacker that week! Heck, may even come on here and make a post telling everybody how utterly useless I was!

Would focus on the eats and the culture. Go out to dinner and get suggestions from the folks you meet and like while there. Rarely time to fish on an out of town work related trip. 10-12hr days are the norm. Gotta get as much done as possible when face to face.
