  1. Maybe I'm not searching correctly (could happen I suppose), but I can't find on the forum or the internet any sort of chart for the LIR that says when X generators are running that it takes Y minutes/hours for the water to reach location Z. I've seen and used charts like that on other tailwaters and while they aren't a substitute for good sense, that information plus a generation schedule is great to have in hand before planning a trip. The charts I've seen for other tailwaters also go in reverse, letting you know how long you usually have to wait after the generators stop for the water to drop. Is such a chart out there for the LIR? If not, could those of you with more experience on the LIR construct one in the post comments? Thanks, - Aaron Weast
  2. I was told by the guy that manages Pawhuska Lake that they raised the price of out of state deer tags by enough to cover the cost of the trout program. I also heard from a third party that the Pawhuska Lake manager was concerned about stocking rates because they were historically determined by the number of trout stamps sold and now they don't have that number to work with. I can't verify any of that as being gospel, but it works for me. I'm of the opinion that trout stocking may likely go down, while fishing pressure will probably go up.
  3. My boys and I fished Friday and Saturday at Watts. I hooked two (caught one) on Friday and didn't even get a sniff on Saturday (we showed up 1/2 hour before daylight on Saturday and were still the third car there). Once my boys get waders, I'm trying the T&M location.
  4. They closed the poll since the change from one-vote-per-machine was changed to a free-for-all by accident. I still had the most votes and the most unique voters when it closed, so thanks to all that helped out! They also are going to make good for all 5 finalists due to the poll problems. I've never had anything but stand-up service and results from Orvis, and this is another example of the company doing things right when they could have tried to take the cheap way out. Your mileage may vary with them, but I'm a fan!
  5. Thanks!! I was a few points down but then a lady at work forwarded it all over the place and then they discovered that the one vote limit we saw yesterday was raised to something closer to 20 and a bunch of people went nuts on it. I'm hoping it holds up (25 hours to go)!
  6. Hey, I'm hoping I can ask a favor without running afoul of any forum rules - written or unwritten. If I did mess up, please just give me a virtual hand-slap and I'll know better next time (I've only posted a few times, so it's not like I have any "community street-cred" yet to fall back on). Anyway, I'm one of the 5 finalists for a flyfishing podcast contest and I could win an Orvis Access fly rod! If you go to the OrvisNews website and go to the fly fishing section and scroll down a bit there's a poll to vote on a podcast question/topic. I asked them to cover fly fishing reality verses what we see in tv shows/magazines/ads, etc. Last I checked I was in 2nd place, but just barely so. Voting ends Thursday the 20th at 2:00 pm central! Thanks, thanks, thanks!!! (In other LIR related news, I did take myself and two of my boys to the LIR last Fri/Sat and we only caught one fish between us. Apparently, we're not that great at the flyfishing bit yet)
  7. From the OWD website, http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/fishregs/troutarea.htm, I get the following information on the LIR: "Four other public access sites are available along the state designated trout stream, including a pool off the river located immediately below the dam which allows trout fishing even during high power generation." I've only been out the the LIR once (back in August) and I tried to find out where this pool is based on the website's map, but I didn't have any luck. Where I thought I needed to turn the road was blocked off, and I didn't have the time/daylight to make an exploratory hike right then. I'm taking myself and my two oldest boys to the LIR this Fri/Sat and given all the talk of high flows lately I'm thinking I need a backup plan/location if the generators are going non-stop. I had fun, but not a lot of fish (operator error), in the upper part of the Watts management unit the last time I came out but that's not going to work this time out if the water is too high/fast. So, if anyone could point me in the right direction (or tell me if it is or is not worth the effort to reach this pool during high generation periods), I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance, - Aaron
  8. I'm making my first trip to the LIR and I need to know a little bit of what to expect, water wise. The generation schedule is calling for 6MW of generation in the early afternoon today. Is that wadeable? I've trolled through a bunch of topics and posts, and it seems pretty obvious that when even one generator is going (20MW) that the LIR isn't wadeable, but I didn't see any comments about how hard it is to wade at a low generation rate (6MW is just 15% of the typical high). Any advice or experience?
