When out this morning for a couple of hours prior to the wind event and front moving thru.  Had calm water so I tried the Spro Fat Fly.
This SM had about a 8 inch Crappie tail sticking out of its throat.

Nother one in the same location.  Boat setting in about 60' hanging the fly out of timbered bluffends.

Caught this Small Jaw off a group of pole timber at the mouth of a pocket by point 5

Wind started to blow really hard and that was that.  Good Luck

Fished a few hours today with my brother.   Caught 10 with 4 keeps.   Also caught 2 walleyes, both returned to the lake.  All fish caught on jerk bait.  Threw the a rig had 3 bites on it but they would just push it.   All stuff I fished was flat.  Jerkbait bite was about a 6 count and the line would take off.   Don't know water temp left my graphs at the house.   Didn't really need them though to do what I was doing.  Cleaner water was better for the jerkbait.

We had a 5.78 in the AiA derby and it was 5th for big bass.  There were some good ones caught this weekend for sure.

yes bill you are right.  most of the catching methods of today are things used long ago, but techniques have been refined.
i don't think it is fair that you are up here rousting my fish while i am still healing my wrist😀.  first week of march and i will be back out.  those are some really nice lmgs that you caught.

the ol' dog is just like american express, don't leave home without it.  i've used one for decades.  it keeps from littering the lake with lures for no reason.  it also save time and money.

Ive said it before on here but the Hound dog lure retriever works wonders on an a-rig.  I Havent lost one all year and probably saved 10 with the hound dog

White River Outfitters Guide Service Eagle Rock Report

Had to go home so I could catch a fish.  Launched at Eagle Rock at 6:45 this morning and was not the first rig at the ramp.  Surface temp at 47.8 water color was James River green with about 4' visibility, some folks would say just perfect and it was pretty perfect for me.  Air temp was 22 degree when I started and both the reel and rod kept freezing for the first couple of hours.  Didn't seem to matter as the LM were up just where should be.

Bluffends, points in front of big spawning pockets and timbered transitions leading in to those pockets.  Kind of like Dockit the other day, had a nice limit by 8:30 and these fish kept biting.  Had one bluffend point that I caught 11 with 10 keepers off of.  Most all fish with the exception of two keeps that were caught on a Pig Sticker with a Chompers twin tail were caught on the A-rig.  2.8 Keitech in Pro blue Red.

Water was really slick and I tried the floater but no success.  Also tried a jerker when it started to ripple a bit but nothing except A-rig fish.
Bite started funny, as they would push it and it would also go slack.  I was having a hard time until they started eating it.  One of my shorts came as a double and while I tried to get that picture they both came off.  Wanted to take it in the water but good luck with that.  On one of the catches I had either 3 or 4 followers swimming below the caught fish, so for a change I was around them.

Pretty sure they were all Bucks, just full of shad coming out both ends.  Best one today was 3.60.
Fished within 1/2 mile either side of the 86 bridge, and left them biting at 12:00 noon.
Lots of boats and fishermen out, but nothing like the Dam/Kimberling area.  I just don't think those fish were nearly as beat up as they are on this end.   Every fish I caught was a LM and I had about 20 total.

Surface temp at the ramp at noon was pushing 49 degree.
    Good Luck

merc1997 reacted to Dock-in-it in Kim City - Feb 20 - Deep bite and shallow A-Rig
The deep bite fizzled out for me around Feb 10th and afterwards even when you found the shad in a good location there were no fish. I fished this morning and tried the A-Rig and caught some nice fish. I had a nice limit by 7:30 and then a few more good ones around 9:00. After 9AM the sun came out and I did not catch another fish. I kept the boat in 30 FOW and cast to 12ft and did not fish around trees. Today, the fish were bunched up and if I got bit I just milked the area. There may be a suspended/tree bit but I did not try it. The fish can be caught on textbook locations and non-textbook locations as well. The strong north wind limited my options and I did not see another boat. Lately the Mill creek ramp has several rigs and today there were none. For those of us still going thru the learning curve, the A-Rig is the best February education tool that exist.

mitch, just as with anything, time on the water does not do a bit of good if you are not learning all the time while on the water.  there are those that put in the time, but are just going through the motions.
there are those that can read a book three times and still not tell you much about the book.  then you have those that can scan through the same book, and be 80% accurate about what the book was about.
jacob wheeler is way ahead of the curve.  everyone else had better buckle down and learn to utilize the great tools that are now available.
maybe, we need to have tournaments where you can only use a flasher.

Fished Joe Bass today and team to the dam to start my day.   2 good keepers on first spot.   Then it went dry for a spell.   Finally caught another keeper in long creek.   Caught 2 more for my limit back toward kimberling.   Had 7 bites boated 6 of them with 5 being keepers.  All came on jerkbait.  25 and change was first when I left big fish was 7.20.  My 5 weighed 12.18.  I was glad to have them.   Good luck when you get to go.

Wood Peckers are still here.  Robins have vacated.  Had an accident yesterday with one of the Peckers, as he hit the french door at full tilt.  Somewhat stunned but he took back off after about 30 minutes of head clearing time.  I simply cannot keep the feeders full.
Going to have to get a part time job at TSC to keep in bird feed.

My first time out since January 31, either because of bad weather or stuff going on in life, I haven't had an opportunity to get out until today.
Nice morning, little to no breeze, temps started out at around 32 and gradually warmed up to the mid 50's.  Water temp was 44-46 with a bit of a stain.
Launched about 0700 and started fishing a long rocky underwater ledge working a 110 +1.  Fished it for 30 minutes or so, caught a couple of 14" spots on the +1, but as I was fishing I was watching the depth finder and seeing a bass on the bottom here and there.  Just wasn't catching them fast enough on the JB, so fell back on the Ned rig.
First cast on the Ned, I caught a keeper spot.  Thought I was on to some hot fishing with it, but it wasn't hot, however there were bites to be had.  Worked the rock ledges, points and chunk banks, in the 20-30 foot range, and caught another 13 bass on the Ned, with 8 of them being keepers.  A couple of them were really solid spots.
Used a black Nutech crappie jig for my Ned rig, I have been using a chartreuse head last month and felt it gave me a better chance at catching smallies.  And I did not catch a smallie today on the black head, did catch a mean mouth, but maybe there is something to smallies liking that chartreuse head.  Guess I will have to continue with my 'research'.
Lots of people fishing today, 8 rigs in the Big M lot when I left and lots of boats running up and down the channel.

should be easy for officials to find then.  this summer we had a crop duster flying underneath power lines and crossing 112.  got pics and his numbers and called the faa.  do not know what they did with whoever was doing the flying.  my neighbor the state park ranger witnessed it too.  this bozo  broke a lot of laws.  too close to power line, let alone going underneath, too close to hwy. , too close to houses, and spraying too close to houses without notification of doing so.
i was kind of wanting to deflate his tires🤬.  kind of like someone flying a drone  around your house.  i am getting to be an old cranky feller.  wait, i've always been that way😀.

    HAHA, good strategy.
You:  "I sure wish I could get a new boat!"
Wife:  "Honey, so do I, but you really don't need one, you have a perfectly good boat now."
You:  "Well I could probably get by if I just had one of those Livescope things."  (Said while shedding a few fake tears).
Wife:  "Oh, I can't stand to see you suffer, we'll get you that Livescope thing."

There are so many things to consider when trying to catch fish. I hear people say it’s all about time on the water. I disagree with that. There are a lot of people who’ve spent more time on the water than Jacob and Bryan, but they don’t end up in the top ten consistently like these two do.
I read once that Thrift studies hard before a tournament on what has been catching fish at the lake, then he does the exact opposite. I really believe you have to think outside the box.

So much truth here.  You give naturally gifted sticks these kinds of tools and it is a game changer.  If some of these guys don't get better at using the technology really quick they are gonna get left behind on a lot of these lakes.  Especially in the Bass Pro MLF format where you have to catch numbers.

Just wait until a tournament when they are on the beds and guys are catching them while keeping the boat 50 feet away.  Could get crazy.

Also, MLF format really makes things interesting.  Wheeler had that thing wrapped up but kept fishing pretty hard to try to catch a big fish for the Heavy Hitters.
