the catching can be really good when you find them, but they will not be just everywhere.  bites are still in the 20 to 25 ft range for the most part, but you will get the occasional bite a bit shallower once in a while.  on monday, leonard and i ended up with 20 keepers or so, and it one of those deals where the spot happened to be bait specific.  caught them pretty good in one area on a 3/4 oz. GrassJig.  the Black Widow bite never happened for us.  it was the GrassJig on the 1 oz. Elite Mega Jig.  we caught a bunch in another area all on the big wobbler, and they would have nothing to do with a jig or the Black Widow.
Wednesday night was different.  took ol' Sleepy Knickmeyer with me.  his eyes always manage to be shut when you take a pic😂.  same depth, different spots.  but, started out just wrecking them on the big wobbler, and ended up after that getting everyone on the 1 oz. Elite Black Widow.  did not take any pics with leonard.  he does not like taking them.  one reason is he can't see to read what is on the camera and won't wear glasses, and if he does ever take one, it is always blurry, so not worth the effort.  knickmeyer and i did take some, and if leonard would have taken pics, they would look pretty much just like the ones that knickmeyer and i took.  we also had 20 keepers or so.

Very seldom do you see bass layer stacked in Table Rock like that.  I don't think I have ever seen it.  also the individual images don't look like bass to me

    Some shots from this morning

I know most of these are bass as I wacked the tar out of them

    Follow up to previous post.
Out the last two mornings.  Wt 81-83 degrees.  Fish still on the gravel flats in 25 - 30 fow.  Seems they want to play at just a certain time of the morning, at least that's the way it seems to me, unlike the summer time on this same ground when the drop shot can work all day long.  The pic of my graph was typical of some of the locations I visited, while some of the same type ground have just one here and there.  However, the best bite came from fish coming from higher in the water column down.  Also some locations had lots of small bait balls around.   If I fished the drop shot with crawlers in just a short time I would be bothered by the gills.  Best to use the plastic worm now.  Again the weather is starting to be really pleasant in the morning at least up to about 10 a.m.

Let me unmotivate you.  Last 3 days I have had 13-11-3 fish with a total of 11 keepers.  That is in 16 hrs. of hard fishing.  Just to hot and slick.  Time of day seems to be no factor.  You can fish a location that you can see fish and they won't bite and then come back in a hour and catch a couple.  Early does not seem to matter, except to get you out of the extreme heat.  Yesterday when we quit at 11 AM the surface temps were pushing 87 degree in the lower James.  Today they were about 84-85
This is kind of like really early Spring in the aspect that if you catch one you better stay close and hang in there, cause they are not biting everywhere.

Got out at dark thirty this morning and went to one of my favorite gravel flats.  I marked fish all over the flat from 20 - 28 fow.  Water temperature was 83 degrees.  Although I was marking fish as soon as I arrived, no joy until about 7:15 a.m. at which point the bite was aggressive on the the drop shot.  Given Bill B. recent post I wanted a jig bite but that would not work for me.  Tried the GPO and dark colors as well as well as the Big Wobbler and Grass jigs watching carefully for that slack line deal.  The best bite came from fish at about 10 feet that followed the bait on the fall.  I stayed in the same area because I had to leave shortly to take my daughter to volleyball.  Caught 4 in a short time including  this nice Spot and SM.  The SM was 18 inches.  My guess is that similar flats would produces at well and th bite would have continued for awhile.  Cool enough boat ride that I needed the sweat  shirt.

Had 11 keepers yesterday with the best couple being at 3.10 pounds.  One LM and one SM at that weight.  Lots of other keeps in that 2.8 pound range.  Only had 4 shorts.  Everything on a 5/8th. GPO Pig Sticker with a Beaver trailer in GP.  KC area 15' to 22'  Bite was a solid jig bite unlike my earlier deal.
Buddy simply tore them up at Shell Knob past couple of days on a modified Ned Rig with a skirt and a slim senko trailer.  I'll try and get a pic.  Ned was 1/4 oz. custom built mushroom head.  Fish in 15' to 22'

decided to give eagle rock a shot last night and got reminded why i avoid that area this time of the year.  caught half a dozen dinks.  went up to the state line and fished my way back to roaring river.  on the electronics especially the further downstream you came, there was a band of clutter 15 to 20 ft. in depth .  it started in the water column around 15 ft.  don't know that was supposed to be telling me about fish positioning.  weird is all i can say about that.
on another note, the corp has taken it upon itself to block off all boat parking by the ramp.  so you have to put your boat in, tie up the the crappie courtesy dock, which most of the side protectors are gone, and while you drive back to the highway to park your trailer and hike all the way back to the ramp, your boat is getting bounced up and down and the exposed metal on the crappie dock is gouging holes in the gell coat on your boat.  who the hell are the idots running the corp?????  they are the ones that started the whole issue with the crappie parking there to begin with when they stuffed the camping areas down on top of the launching ramp.  there used to be ample parking by the ramp without blocking the road to maneuver back around down the ramp.  people unfamiliar with the situation unknowingly, to them, do not pull up far enough and their trailer is blocking everything off.  is the corp just trying to block lake access to the tax payers that paid for the lake and all of the ramps to begin with???????  seems like we need to have a public forum with the corp and have a come to Jesus meeting and remind them they work for us not the other way around.  this is just total BS.  the poor guy at the steal your dollar shack is just getting his butt chewed off, and he has nothing to do with it.  it would be better if you could pull your boat up on the gravel while you are getting your exercise, but you can't do that either because of all the shot rock they lined the bank with.  something has got to give.  the ramps were built and paid for by the taxpayers, and we should still have reasonable access to any of the ramps, including viney creek.

I could not agree with you more.  Total cluster around the all the ramps with the rip-rap.  Limited docking space and then nothing along the shore line even in non-wake areas.  And tell me why in Heck have they put boulders in front of some of the parking on the lake side at Eagle Rock.  Simply STUPID.

got several trips in since last post, but somewhat the same, but the last two trips seemed to be dealing with post front conditions, and we had to work for what we got.  did not find the stacked in any one place.
does seem that they might be heading deeper again on the lower end.  the same 3 lures have been getting most of the attention, but the black widow has caught more than the wobbler the last two trips.  also, the jig has been getting more love even though my boat is covered in grey shad poo.
took a pic to once again have proof that i do catch some in the daytime😄.  old sleepy again gives proof that the sleeps through a lot of bites.
