  1. around here HI Mitch

I will be leaving the lake and quiting fishing for the most part.Within the next year. My wife has Level 3 kidney failure and I at 80 have enough arthritis to make doing a lot of anything pretty painful. Do not know where we are going but Washington might be it. It is just getting to much work to live here.. I am also sick and tired of the boating situation and the damage it causes. Around here from May thru October your lucky if you can get out on the lake 2 days a week Tues and Wed. without getting beat around by big boats. Always thought I would die before I would ever stop fishing. But now the conditions I am faced with do not make it look so bad.

Well that makes me sad. I hope your wife gets some relief. Lake of the Ozarks is crazy for sure with those summertime boat crazies. The only way I would know to fight it is get a jet boat and go up the rivers where those big boats can’t go. I’m sad to hear you are moving away

  2. Are you and Wrench still in that tournament tomorrow. I have not been up to see wrench and sent him a Msg but i think he missed it. He is really busy this year.

  3. Bill are you filled up all the time in the summer. I have a friend Does a weeks appearance at Silver Dollar City every year. I forgot the dates right now. Need to look them up If I can talk the other half here into it. I might come to her show Cannot hear her but always try to support her and her band.  Might want to sty 1 night during the week. If you take on night rentals

No, she has plenty of opening through out the Summer.  Thanks a bunch for asking, you would just need to have your wife call Becky at the Lodge to check out the dates.  417-779-1556

      Thanks Again

Wife  says she does not want to go.  They have a summer  house across the lake from me here on the Gravois. I see them regularly anyway When they are down from Kirksville. I fish with her husband sometimes. Sorry

  4. I HAV E BEEN WON DERING HOW YOU FINALLY  CAME OUT WITH YOUR SHOULDER  PROBLEM ??? I HAD MINE REPLACED 3 MONTHS AFTER THEY AGAIN REPLACED MH LEFT KNEE  I HAD NO REHAB IN EITHER CASE. MY SHOULDER WAS A REVERSE TOTAL REPLACEMENT.I HAVE ABOUT RETURNED FULL STRENGTH TO THAT ARM BUT STILL GOT TO BE CAREFUL LIFTING STUFF OVER 40  LBS

    1. Bill Babler

      Bill Babler

Glad to hear you are doing well with it.  As you know I had Rotator Cuff surgery they had to put 3 anchors in but the injury was fresh and it healed fantastic.  I did do rehab and it was great.  Shoulder is back really at better than full strength.  Of course I'm careful with it, but it feels fantastic.

Thanks for asking, I appreciate it.  Glad your doing well with yours.

  5. yeah Mitch that  song has made me set back and take stock of my reatioship with others. I can not hear it but I can read it and I can tell you with 100 % certainty Rhonda wrote that from her own beliefs. She had her whole band place a small concert in her yard at a home warming that was the second song she sang. sort of put them all on notice. She is 55 and does not know how to take it easy. I told Herb she brings to mind popcorn popping. She is as full of life as a16 yr old  That entire family are some of the most God fearing down to earth peole I know. She is home in Kirksville off the road till January. I think anyway. Home will be down here I think in a few years

Herb her husband is a crappie fishing nut. I will be fishing with him a lot this year. My boat is about done for and About ready for the salvage yard. I will not be buying another one. I am not as confident out ther as .I used to be Besides I have come to believe they are really a money pit. Guy across the road just bought a 19 ft sketter cost him  81,000.

  6. I will not be at the lake on Sunday. We go a funeral to attend in St Charles sunday. were going to go up on Satirday to visit amy daughter and my grandkids are comin out. I will be home late Sunday and will not be on the Hybrids again until Monday evening. The one on the picture was 5.88 just shortvof 6lbs. Mybhybrd fishing budy got one over 7 1/2 week before last.

      96 CHAMP

well have a good trip and good luck fishing next time you get out

  7. I am contemplating this might be my last season. There is health issues with  my wife amd myself involved. But really I am so tired of the abuse on all out wters I do not want to see it anymore. Must say though this has been a very fine season so far amd it will just make me miss it more in the future. A few weeks back Fishing only 1-3  hours during the week days I was able to boat 16 bass in the 4 lb range. Hell of it was I could not conect ro anything larger. Only 2 this year better than 5 I blame a lot offthis on tournaments and week end meat hunters. 99% of your weekend fishermen carch a bass even 4 lbs they are gong to carry it around show it off and take pictures. I a, very tight lipped about how well I do fishing. I do not not want this  type thing.  most pleasant timevI have had though this year was with one sole nass. She was 22" long and I neve weighed her fat posterior. I miss her on our first incounter dished down a couple docks and came came back  and caught her. let her rest for 3 days and caught her again. She would not hit  at anything outside a spot about as big as a toilet seat. I checked on the presents one time by giving her a worm with no hook. Over al I caught her three times and have not tried since. That story is like a book. Lot to learn about bass vehavir from that

  8. It has for me. I only run a 115 on mine. But i know mone was rated for a 150. I think the new 18 ft boat will take 200. Not sure.

I woild not buy it again because of the way the front deck is configured. I like more room than what they have now. Other than that I like a look of the sturdyness of the new ones and the layout out of the storage.

i think you just answered one of my questions.  do they hold up.

would you buy it again?  is a 150 enough hp?

      thanks for the answers.

I will  list my pros and cons.

HULlL  This one of mine has been running around in he gravois and lower lake for over ten years and the water does get rough down here. I do not think there is anything safer than a big V bottom in the rough water.

CON If you buy one PBS will put the batteries in trays. get rid of them and put. all betteries in BOXES. If the boat s used and has trays beware.  I have a 24 volt trolling system and had two batteries in a hold in the front of the boat  . Small spills out of those batteries will go unnoticed. And they will drain out into the hull through a weep hole in the box. when that happens they will eat into the bottom of the hull and all of a sudden you lwilo have a boat that leaks like  like hell. You will not be able to see it doing that either from the outside since it takes pressure of the boat runing to make the small cracks open. This problem can be avoided by sealing the battery box woth aircraft battery box sealer and puttting the batteries in boxes. In my case I had to many cracks cuased by years of this problem developing and they welded sheets 90 ga of alum over the bottom. So now I have a lot of bottom is 100 and 90 ga thick. Cost was over $4,000.

ACC. I Would rate the wiring instruments etc as average from my prespective. That is with the boat used used a few hours almost daily from March thru October. All the years I have had it. it has been kept in a dock on a lift when not in use.

Carpets and things are good for maybe 8 to 10 years. Instruments might last half that.

If your looking at the new ones they have moved the console forward since I got mine causing the casting deck to be way to small to suit me.

Overall it is a pretty rugged boat but you can expect to have problems.

If your going to put a 4 stoke motor on there be prepaired to burn E91 oct fuel in it. E87 can foul up the small fuel jets in a 4 stoke motor. The problem is the ethenol in the fuel lines will seperate and and from a hard residue in the bottom of the fuel line if the boat sets for periods without use. This stuff will in time clog the lines, break off in tiny pieces and foul you fuel system on the motor. It will cost you about a cool $1,000  have that fixed or more.

Overall I really like the boat. It is pretty rugged and safe.  i have no idea what the new ones are like though.

wow, loads of info. thank you.  yes looking at a new one. really want a warranty.

it's little things like this i am looking for.  never would have thought of battery leakage.

i appreciate you time and valuable info.

  10. Have you tried that new Bar BQ yet?  They are wonderful I am looking at one at Menards. Neighbr has had ne for years. Someties puts a big pork butt in there and does not come back for 18 hrs.

Only problem he has ever had was te feed auger jamming up. I think it was cased by moisture gitting into the pellets in long non use periods and  turning hard. Not a pleasant task to clean up.

I've already had the same issue but I have been able to work through it. Anyway, the food it makes is beyond delicious!

  11. I sent a scanned copy of the artical in Elks magazine down to Champ in Bella Vista. You might can get a xopybfrom him if you do not have one

  12. Hows thecats doing Champ. Mine actsmore like a child than a cat. Shrflat refuses to go outside. purehouse animal.

I and Wrench do not fish together but we share a lot. All through the hot weather from last week of July till right 2nd week of September both of us cleaned up on bass between 16 and 18 inches each and every day. We both averaged beteen 3 and 5 every day. matter fact dinks were few and far between. He flipped jigs and I did my big drop shot rig. he was up shallow and I Fished from 20 to clsecto 30 ft. Goes to show you they are where you find them. Were  both on the gravois and only fish a few evening hours. Myself the shoulder limits me to about 2 hours. Was some of the best fishing I have experieenced on this lake.

  13. I tried the smaller one and caught 2 shorts on 3 drops. So I will start carrying the smaller version as well. I do not put much weight in color. I use green punkin for my dark side and bright pink for the lighter side. I just try the dark for awhile then if it is not happening I go  the pink.

No idea of your age, but in the early and nd 60s you had a one  armed sheriff down there in licking. If you remember him he was my cousin.

    1. likinmo

      likinmo

Im sure Ive heard of him what was his name . Ive only been here for about 15 years now. Im originally from Hermann mo. Glad you caught a couple on the lighter DS.   Greg

  14. seen your picture and was surprised you got less hair than I do plus skinny legs. You put on cargo pant with thos legs you will look like a bobble head.

Anyway I seen your a big thing on snuff and chewing. I really wish for your own good you would forget about that crap. I have a couple friends it got the best of. It is really dangerous and painful. The snuff and tobacco are in a area were if it gets started itvcancjump from ther to anywhere in your body.

  16. I got both a question and a request for you.

I have a 2 grand nieces from china. The oldest ones name is Jada Brown. I understand she won a state level gymnastic tournament not long ago. Her mothers name is Shari Brown and is a principle at a high school in the St Louis county area. Just wondered if you might be familiar with her.

I would like to stop by and see your lure making operation sometime. I will be pretty tied up till sometime in July. The replacement of the failed knee replacement comes up 8 days after they finish the radiation.

I have virtually stopped fishing. Hope to have all three of these things ( knee, cancer and shoulder)  finished before next season

    1. Mitch f

      Mitch f

I've kind of stopped fishing too, the wife is due very soon, could be any time. I will ask my wife about the hound Chinese girl.

the lure making operation ain't much yet, but we have fun! Anyway, you're welcome to come by and see it anytime you wish!

  17. Bet you just cannot wait now. Huh. She be coming very soon.

I am barely fidhing myself. The readiation treatment is in the moring 5 days a week for the next 8 weeks including this one. I must keep my shoulders in a unmovable position for about 15 minutes. Trouble is the bad one starts in about a minute after they get started. Buy the time they ar done the pain is enough hat I cannot rise off the table with that arm. Not a pleasant experice at all.  It about ends fishing for that day. Was hoping to get at this fixed after these treatments. Cannot do that now the knee replacement that needs to b replaces is finally about done. I will have that done on 21june 8 days after I stop the radiation treatment. Not the kind of season  I was looking forward too.

That bss wrench caught was 6.3. I know the exact place that was. I do nit think he had to use must stelth as much as he had to know where he was. That area is a big spawing area. There is a old lady lives up their that has come down  to the dock a time or two while I was fishing her dock and flirt with me.

    1. Mitch f

      Mitch f

Ha ha, you still got it!

I hope your treatments are less painful, you will be back in the saddle soon! God Bless my friend!

  18. MItch I am sire you have better sence but do not pay any attention to any of those asvise post I make. I will lie to them and send them on a wild goose chase. I am not a out to broadcast anything worthwile on the forum tht hastovdo with fishing LOZ. HEll I have not been out there  enought anyway this year. 1 full hour is all this season. I jut have  a bad attirude about most of them.  Justgetting more senile.

I got to go through 8 weeks of radiation treatment begining Monday. Was expected. But I am sure going to be outvwhen I I can through the whole thing.

God Bless you Harry, hope all goes well! We need to go fishing this summer friend!!?

  19. Hope those road runners work for you.

I went out biut 2:30 nd caught 3 real fast back in a cove near a channel bank. All of them about 13 inches. All on a baby brush hog.

Antime you need anything let me know. I do that stuff becuse i want to. Never want a penny for it.

    1. MOsmallies

      MOsmallies

Thanks Harry! I can't wait to put em together and one will for sure be tied on for the crappie tournament in 2 weeks!

I'm glad you were able to get out in the boat for a bit and the fish were a bonus!

My father-in-law and I fished for Crappie from 3:30 til 7:30 on Saturday. We probably caught 40 in that time with 30 keepers. Most were caught on a black/chartreuse tube jig set 4 ft deep under a cork... Also caught some nice ones on a 1/16 oz roadrunner and Bobby Garlands Baby Shad (Blue Ice and Blue/Chartreuse). The last dock we fished we caught 15 keepers and 10 shorts between 7 and 7:30 pm. All fish were still out from the bank... Some were in 6-8 foot of water and some were in 15-20... But our baits were in that 4-6 ft range.

I can't thank you enough for the baits! It was a pleasure to meet your wife and spend some time chatting with you all. Take care and we'll talk soon!

  20. i think you are referring to the 1/8 oz I mold on a 3/0 hook. Here is the deal I will mold you a dozen but you got to put the split rings and spinner blades on them. i hate that job. And now the left arm is not steady enough for it. Do you wnt to pick them up here are I can bring them over and leave them on the porch at yoir father i n laws.

  21. Since your just getting started. I know it can be expensive. I cast and tie my own jigs. I know  a couple things that might help you save a bit of money.

I buy my thread at JoAnns sewing shop. They sell a exterior apholstery thread that is pure Nylon and very strong. It comes on larger spools. I just wrap it from them to my smaller spools  . Only trouble is it comes in only black if the color is a problem.

Other  thing is Hobby Lobby sells a glue called Fusion. It can be rhineed with water but dries water proof. I hve it in two different bottles. One thinned and one full strength. I used the rhinned stuff to apply and too my wrappings as I am doing it. Then I over coat  the final with full strength.  The stuff is about 10 bucks for  2 zo bottle but is really good stuff.

      mjk86

sweet thanks!  I have a joann and a hobby lobby right near my house!

  22. Shucks Mitch that was getting interesting. I thought i was going to get a chance there to announce my choice for president. Not really any sense in it anyway. He is leading another nation currently. But as much as I hate to say it he is about what we need to get this country back together. President Putin is a fisherman. He cant be all that bad.

    1. Mitch f

      Mitch f

Ha ha, that post was from 4-5 years ago and Chief brought it back for spite. Anyway it was a mistake on my part and I regret posting it originally. You're a great friend Harry!

  23. Do you buy your led in led bars. I am wondering about what you pay for it?   I get mine free from my daughter in law. It is old lead pipe. Some if it 100 years old. The remelting and cleaning can be a messy proces to say the least. I use wax as my flux to do that . Allegedly it is safer. I stick a long candle down in the lead to flux it.  If the heat is to high however the melted candle was will bounce to the top of the lead pot and pool.  it will almost instantly turn into a vapor rising stright up and ignite sort of a scary thing just short of a explosion. So I am thinking about looking for another scourse. One thing about the fluxing it sure makes a smooth pouring led at lower heat.

    1. Mitch f

      Mitch f

I get my lead from various sources, mostly old duck decoy weights and lead pipes. I might have to try the candle flux!

    2. Old plug

      Old plug

Yeah I have used that kind if stuff. That stuff is usully hard to the point of being almost brittle. That is because it us full of impurities, The wax will not change the hardness but it will draw out impurities in the form of slag ( It will surprise you just how much) that  will make it esier to pour. BE CAREFUL

I ran out of thread the other day and tied one with 10 lb braid. It worked in the pinch but the wrapping is hard to keep nice. If it matters. The one below was tied with braid. It is in Naturl color vein that constitues 99% of  my bass fishing jigs and plstic wormson this lake

      image.jpeg

  24. Wonder if you flux your lead beforecyou pour it. I did not docthat until last fall. I was reading and found out candle wax was real good flux. It sure makes for a very smooth pour also leave a very shiney finish. I just poured these 5 about 15 minutes ago.

Glad to here you got out .i have not eben tried. I did go iutvin e yard with a casting rod and made 50 cast testing thr shoulder. I have been in rehab for three weeks. Seems as though i went through 3 1/2 years hell because It was as bad the doctor told me and never got the right tretment. It is nothing but a torn rotary  cuff that keeps tearing again because I never got the right tretment THANK GOODNESS for MIZZOU. My knee and shoulder Drs both teach up there. Went to 3 sessions of rehab and have not missed a nights sleep since.

  25. I been casting and messing around a bit.I casted my 1/2 oz bass jigs on 0/4 O' shaunecy hooks. I will be dressing  them pretty heavy.  There is going to be no more rusted buck tail  hooks anymore. I like the O'shaunesy because it sets the catching end back to a maxium. It also does not have a very wide gap. That also helps in the brush.

While I was out there I found a cheap old egg simker mold I bought back in the mid 60's. For some time I have been wanting to cast 3/4 and 1oz drop shot sinkers with swivels in them. It really helps keep the line from twisting. So I got to messing around and doing a bit of modifying and here is the first results.
