  1. Yep, it's for employees of companies who carry their products. I've used it to buy things from Garmin, UA, Northface, Columbia, Benchmade and some others.
  2. We fished our annual company tourney on Sunday. Talk about tough conditions! Sleet, snow and pretty good wind made it a tough day for us. We prefished Friday and Saturday and caught fish the entire time. I did most of my damage on a Keitech 3.8 and a finesse worm. I caught my 2 personal best on TR on back to back casts on Saturday. Main lake point with the Keitech just reeling it as slow is I could. Both were over 5 lbs, and just as fat as I can rememer seeing. I promptly pulled the trolling motor and left the spot thinking I could come back and catch some more there on derby day. It seemed like every spot we pulled up on we would catch a few really quick and then we'd leave the area. Our best five on Saturday would've gone around 17lbs. Overall quality was good, probably 3 to 1 keepers to shorts. I felt really good going into Sunday. Sunday was a completely different story. Sleet, snow, and no sun really shut our fish down. I was super proud of my wife for sticking it out with me all weekend through those conditions. Saturday morning we had ice forming on the rods most of the morning. She never complained, not once. She just kept on fishing. She's definitely a keeper. Thanks to all of you who post your reports and stories on here for others to digest. It really helped me narrow things down quickly and capitalize on the short amount time we get to spend on your beautiful lake. Till next time.

    Lake elevations

We're supposed to have our annual tourney next weekend, but with the current levels I'm guessing its going to be postponed. How long will it take them to draw down the lake to safe levels? Prayers for all affected.

    line choice

Gamma copolymer for me too. Hard to argue with the line size to break strength ratio. Really easy to get as well if you can use google.

    Invitation to Guest Lurkers

I don't post hardly at all, but I do check in nearly every day (during down time at work). I really enjoy reading the posts and learning new things that I can try in my home waters of Oklahoma. I usually only make it over in April for a company tournament, but I'm hoping to change that with the addition of the new boat. Thanks for the opportunity to chime in!

    Quick Review and Warning

Bill, you're absolutely right about the trend. As someone with experience selling the Carbonlites for the better part of 5 years, I can tell you the new ones aren't that great. Sure they weigh next to nothing and are probably sensitive enough for most folks, but they've sacrificed the integrity of the rod for the sake of weight. The old blanks (the black ones) were much better, and I do own a couple of them. For me...I'll stick with my Falcon and Loomis.
  10. We're supposed to be on the river Thursday and Friday. Hope its not enough rain to muck things up too bad.

    James River Update

A group of us are hoping to come down next weekend for a float/camping trip. My question: Has anyone been on the river and know if it going to be floatable/fishable? I've been monitoring the USGS website for water levels and flow but I'm not real sure how it will be (having never been on the James). We are planning on floating from Hootentown to Galena, while staying one night on the river. Are there any "good" places to camp at about the halfway point? Any other general advice is appreciated!

    Vertical Ned fishing

Ah, the ol' shakey shot. It does work, and work well.

    TR April 18-19

I will definitely be doing that! Being a newlywed, my fishing time has been drastically reduced the past year. I've been staying fresh by fishing vicariously through you all and your posts.

    TR April 18-19

Gonna be making my yearly trip down to TR the weekend of April 18-19 and wondering how you guys and gals think the lake will be shaping up. We normally fish around the dam area because of the proximity to out takeoff point. Last year we struggled to find 50 degree water. Seems like the temps are already warmer than that. Do you all think the fish will be on beds at that time or will the spawn be over. Typically have done "well" fishing hard heads and creature baits, blades, and a split shot rig. I've been meaning to order some jig heads from Dave, but haven't got a chance to put the check in the mail yet. I'm definitely going to have a setup for the little guy. Any other ideas on things to fish, and maybe areas to look for. Typically I get down there and a have day or so to prefish, but this year I will be driving over and jumping on the water. Not looking for any spots or honey holes because I know you guys spend a lot of time and energy figuring those things out. Just looking for some general ideas. Thanks in advance. I really love this board and feel like I have already learned more about the lake (by reading this forum) than I have on any of my yearly weekends. Hope everybody has a blessed weekend.
