Kiptopeake ST Park VA - Looking for Ribbonfish
JestersHK replied to Johnsfolly's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
Haha those pin fish make good bait. Not sure what I caught a while back but some locals said it was a ribbon fish... this was SC I believe, the pier south of myrtle Beach -
Sent ya a PM, Thanks

Nice catching buddy, and I think there's enough of us here to vouch for your numbers. I'm more excited you saw a tank up there... those are the ones that get my heartbeat going lol. Light line and glasses are a must of you're sight fishing... I switched to green glass especially just for Taney. Give me just a little bit extra down in the column. Thanks for the report.

Who am I to sleep... just finished it up. What a great read, and a greater man. Sandy I ran into a young man the other day up here in Ofallon. We started talking trout fishing and he said he learned to sight fish after Rick showed him the ropes and he even caught his biggest trout ever on one of his flies... Such a small world and Rick touched many lives for sure.

Interesting... depending on my ortho surgery I likely have one of these in my future unless I just stick with ground blind and stalk hunting...

Good luck buddy, I might try to sneak down for an evening if I can get this schedule figured out...

I've seen 2 in person, both at night and the one up close was a no doubter. The second one went across the road in front of us in a sxs, I caught a glimpse of the back of it, but my buddy driving saw the whole thing. Saw the trail cam pic of the one that killed the calf on the neighboring farm. Was a big one and possibly the one we saw that night. I prefer not to see them though lol. Bobcats are cool to watch, big cats I'm good not being that close. Especially when it's pitch black outside. If I ever felt threatened I'd def shoot, If the one watching my daughter and I came towards is he would of got lot up. I generally just try to avoid inviting the law into my life though and the only predators I hunt are yotes.
-
You used to be able to get a predation permit for them if you could prove they were eating your live stock. Daughter and I were stalked by a big one where we deer hunt at while we were out at night hunting Hogs... scared the crap out of me, maybe 25 yards from us. I wouldn't shoot them without a permit or permission, some are collared and tracked so when they stop moving they know they're dead...

You forgot Spyderco on that list They are a US company, but they do make knives outside of the US line if knives, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, and the Byrd line from China.
-
That's a beast. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Bummer T, but don't feel bad about it. I know that you did your best, and gave it the best chance, but it happens to all of us. Thank you for your efforts, I've watched people drag fish all over the rocks at the outlets, and have had many a nice fish float by me due to mishandling...

I converted over from gerber EZ outs to Spydercos and haven't looked back. They are a US patriotic company that makes great steel and some pretty awesome knives. I have had thumb hole knives my whole life and cannot stand the thumb stud knives for quick one handed opening and closing. I'm currently using a manix 2, kids got a native, and I just picked up a PITS titanium as a lighter summer option. Was gifted an older Q HK branded knife too.

Not a fan of p line. All mono def has a shelf life and you can usually tell when it turns... I run maxima ultra green and a soon as it turns white or gets brittle it comes off and is respooled. I also firmly believe in keeping your reels out of the heat. My reels kept indoors keep line for much longer than ones left in the garage or truck in the heat. I won't buy from Amazon either as I've gotten 2 dead spools of maxima from them. Line was white and crunchy right out of the box... again I think that shelf life comes into play.

Nice job T way to get it done buddy.

Whew... made it home around 2AM after leaving from Estes yesterday. Have about 600 work emails I'm going through now... Thanks for coming along on the journey with me but for now back to reality. We did make a stop in Golden CO. If you have never been to the Spyderco store there you should check it out. I carried cheap knives for many years before finding my way to Spyders. They are a fantastic US patriotic company and make some darn nice knives too. Wife made me pick up this new limited run PITS folder. We're doing a big picture dump so I'll see if I find any other cool pics.

Sounds like you're living the dream. We just left the Tetons a few days ago and stayed at the Hatchet Resort for a night before heading on our way home.

So semi successful day on the Pan early this morning. Kierstin my oldest got her first Frying pan brownie, and we picked up a few more after that on jigs and nymphs. Around 930 we hit the trail head to hike up to the little creek. It wasn't quite a death March but there was some threats and grumbling as it's a pretty steep trail in certain spots. The bad part came when it was all brushed in and super thick at the top... we could of used a machete to get to the water in some spots 😆 There were also only about 1/3 the amount of trout as last time too and they were tiny but eager to bite. We only got 3 in our hands as they kept coming off the bad head, but they are still pretty little western slope cutts. Finally made it into Estes Park tonight, then we're driving home tomorrow... or adventure is almost over but it has been an amazing time out west.
