  1. Fished Montauk Friday, Man was it crowded and hot. The water was clear and I think above the normal level. Fishing was ok but with all the other fishermen walking by and waiting for a chance at their favorite hole, it wasn't the experience you really want while fishing. It was still good but Fridays and Mondays are out for me for a while. Some of our group fished outside the park and said it wasn't as crowded but the fish were still tough to find in the middle of the day. Good fishing to you.
  2. I am old enough to remember wading a creek without having to worry about being shot-up beat-up vandalized or fined for fishing. It is a sad world we live in now.
  3. Welcome to the forum ChiaPet. I too started fishing the trout parks recently and it's been fun.
  4. Al, Happy to hear your Mary is recovering nicely. Prayers for her and you.
  5. Laker67 is correct as it reads in the MDC book. I see no reason not to continue using a dropper until someone can prove fly fishers are violating a law. If you care to call the MDC and inquire just to be on the safe side. The way it reads in the book 3s the limit.
  6. I found nothing in the special regs that prohibited the use of a multi-hook set-up. Two nymph rig or dry and dropper should be OK. If you are brave or skilled enough for a three nymph rig knock yourself out.
  7. Nice to hear you had such a great day. My wife and I went for a drive Tuesday to check out some of the creeks and rivers and there were looking good if a little stained. I didn't fish much as I don't like to have my wife sitting around while I enjoy myself, though she says she just enjoys gazing at me with great admiration. I may go back Thursday and check out one in particular that looked really promising.
  8. I have been thinking about the springs but the crowd and the grass make me hesitate. I know they cut the grass back, does anyone know when this happens?
  9. Was the water that clear? what a beauty.
  10. I would think that is stream bred as well. Surprised the stream looked that good with all the rain. Glad you had a good day. Then again a bad days fishing.
  11. Went back to Montauk 5/24. The day started out OK, overcast water still a little murky at 1.90 Ft. level. Started out with an egg fly thinking that's what worked last week and it did.Fishing was slower than last week but I still picked up a fish here and there. Until the storms rolled in. We got a lot of thunder and it poured for about 45 minutes. After the rain stopped the sun came out and the fishing was tougher as the water got murkier from the runoff. Still it was a good day.
  12. 10pointer, If park personnel were out checking tags I didn't notice. That doesn't mean they were not there, I just didn't notice. I can be focused on the moment and not see an elephant.
  13. I am no expert but those markings could be from fungal infections caused be earlier improper handling or parasites.
  14. I did see some shoes by Simms and other makers for quite a bit less that would fit the bill. I'm interested because I need a pair. My problem is feet so wide they act like snowshoes in the winter. If I could run fast enough I could probably run on top of the water like a Jesus lizard.
  15. Nice bass, Is there something wrong with it's back? it looks hunchbacked and it's fins are split.
  16. Wow, is this thread dead? I went fishing at Montauk Thursday and since I started up fly fishing again, this is the third time this year I have made the drive. The water was at about 2.5 feet and murkier than I have ever fished it and the flow was pretty strong. I started slow but wound up with 12 fish for the 6 hours I fished. Nothing to brag on but a couple were real fatties with some nice colors. Midges and some mayflies were around and there were a few top water feeders but not for me. It was a good day for me.
  17. Simms has a new boot called the Intruder. It is made to be worn barefoot or with a thin wading sock. They are typically not cheap at $179.00, but Simms makes a quality product and should last for year https://www.simmsfishing.com/shop/footwear/intruder-boot.html
  18. A nice report sounds like you had a good day except for the wader thing. The video is really good, I don't think I have ever seen the water that clear though I don't get down there that often.
  19. Great more trees down across BSC.
  20. Awesome animal, I was thinking of heading over to Bush's with my new 8 weight. How far off the bank were you. I don't have a trolling motor and would just wander along the shore casting out with streamers and poppers. What was the water clarity?
  21. JoeD, Funny I never even noticed the date stamp. We have had that camera sitting in a drawer for a long time and I charged it and snapped a few pictures before I went to BSC. Those were not old pictures they were taken just before that post. I will have to see about updating the time stamp.
  22. Great fish. I just got a new 8 weight gonna have to fling some feathers on 35.
  23. Great read, I feel like I was almost with you. Some nice fish and friendly Copperheads, what more can you ask for.
  24. I have received notice that the new rod will be here tomorrow and will cast it as soon as I can. I see the practicality of the shorter rod on streams where casting room is limited and I admit that I love the small streams. I keep thinking about that Mojo Bass in 7 Weight. I do have a 6/7 weight 8 footer, but my handle broke last week and I am not sure it is worth fixing.
