Dang it, Scott, you're killing me.  I've been through a long dry spell on big fish.  Out here in Montana now, but couldn't seem to tag any real big ones this year in Missouri.  The Yellowstone isn't an easy river to find a big trout, but I found one today...a hidden pile of rocks that used to be a rip rap point before the river ate its way around it and left it in the middle of the channel, right below a fast riffle.  The river is just now low enough to really see this rockpile, and I doubt if many people fish it because they are mostly too busy running the riffle and it sneaks up on them.  But Mary was practicing her rowing, and leaving me to drift a big fat hopper imitation right over that rockpile, where a brown trout as big around as my leg came up and took it...and didn't get hooked.  It's less than a mile below the house, so I plan on trying that fish again soon.
Ain't it fun talking about big fish?

Any time I’m trying something from the store, I always test it on it’s own merits.
And most always they are disappointing.
I get it though. You have to make a product as cheap as you can to maximize profitability.
But that only goes so far. If I’m putting my name on the label, I’m putting quality in the can. I can’t do it any other way. I wouldn’t do it any other way.
I’ve never tried Dickey’s BBQ but am sure it’s as good as any other chain. If you like chain bbq. So I was kinda surprised when I poured out the contents of these cans. I thought hey these look pretty good.
As they say, looks can be deceiving. And for the most part they were. I’m sure for most of the weekend warrior back yard pit masters, these were great. For the rest of us? Not so much!
These were certainly not the worst canned bean I’ve ever had the pleasure of doctoring up. And just for the record, I do this for entertainment. I make my own killer bbq beans from a recipe handed down from my mother, Joann Pierce. And I mean they are WOW!!
So at any rate, these didn’t take a whole lot of doctoring. As with any canned bean, one good diced onion goes a loooong way. But these got an extra dose of goodness via St. Louis Mo.
A good helping of Maull’s BBQ sauce. Now that sent these beans well over to the good side. It’s goes without saying that Texas makes a decent, edible BBQ. But some help from St. Louis sends it over the top in flavor!

I would suggest you pick up a 99 cent bottle of Dawn dish soap to do some pre-cleaning on the river

Well I just spoke with Clint at the hatchery. I will have to retract my comments about nothing being done. They have just contracted with a private company to maintain and clean the restrooms at the pavilion on a daily basis. This is great news . He said they should be re-opened within a week or so. Thank you Clint for addressing this issue.

Reminds me of old friend Danny who got in a Porta-Potty one opening day at Roaring River. The only problem was he didn't have his Powell fly rod inside the door when he let the door spring closed. Took the upper 6" off his expensive rod. Got it fixed and a couple years later, his nephew rolled it up in the car door window!

Porta pottys for each sex would be a good investment of our tax dollars below TRD. Heck I don't care if its coin operated to reclaim their expenses of cleaning and rental. Sure beats unsuiting to drive my wife to the quick stop. Come on who ever is in charge and make some considerations for the people who fund your very existence .

As a side note, Sunday my wife and I got our ride cut short by flooding that closed some of the trail so we went home and got trash bags and went back to pick up trash.  We were crawling all over in the weeds around the parking lot.  Now we stick to the chat lot...

One of my railroad buddies was on a work train years ago in So. Ill.  He was an engineer so his feet rarely touched the ballast, but he got off to talk with this old farmer that had a place North of the snake road. He asked the old timer why he had on knee boots when it was pretty hot . The old timer told him"if you saw the snakes we have around here, you would either get back on the engine or get you some knee boots too! Said he lost livestock every year to snake bites. Only saw a couple while I was working that subdivision and both were dead.

Was great to see you guys. We are very much enjoying Susie's homemade from scratch bread and jam. Retied Miss Sandy's box of flies yesterday, and made her pick out and test each hook. No more excuses on lost fish. Hope you guys had a good day on Thursday. I think we are going to wait until midday today and head back over for a few hours.

Susie and I fished and visited Wednesday with Laker and Miss Sandy at BSSP. Caught some fish even though Laker is still giving Sandy flies tied on dull hooks.(Her comment, not mine). Was a chance to enjoy a beautiful days with "old friends" and catch up on their new grandson,Quinn. Pretty crowded and they were cutting moss in zone 1 early, but we still caught a lot of small stockers. Great day!

I was so ready to start stuffing cubanelle peppers. One of our favorite summer meals. Pat made some arrabiata sauce, cooked some ground venison and mixed in the sauce. Split the peppers and stuffed them. Covered with shredded Asiago cheese. Popped into the smoker at 250 for awhile until cheese began to melt and get a good smoke color.

Water was a bit lower this morning so I launched the boat at Cotter and ran up to a shoal that was wadeable. I didn't see any fish coming up so I started with a Y2K and midge dropper under an indicator. I noticed a nice golden rainbow holding in the current and made a cast just upstream of him and he took the Y2K. After I released him I saw another golden and caught him also. Then one more showed up and I caught him. That was 3 goldens in a row, all different sizes. This shoal is not close to any of the stocking points so I guess the goldens must like each other's company and hang out together.
Overall it was a good morning with lots of rainbows and one decent brown. They liked the Y2K better than the midge today.
Here's a picture of the biggest golden and the brown...

Went there for a week in college to play in a big baseball tournament. The coach turned the boys loose two nights while we were there to see Bourbon Street. I was married so I was well behaved  but the younger players for the most part partied hard. We didn't play that well the next day.
