Hum Whites jumping, I see that at night when the males are chasing sows but that usually happens when the spawn is peaking. Makes me wonder if they had a bunch of bait fish cornered and were just feeding.

Matt and I went down to the White Tuesday night to float, put the boat in up at the dam around 10:30pm and took out the next afternoon at Cotter around 3:30pm. Great float dam was running 35mw and the fishing was great. Night time was good, yielded several quality Browns on a mouse just swinging and stripping. I was using my Sage TCX 8wt with a floating line and just straight mono 22 pound with a mouse at the end of the line. The mice that we are using are 2/0 Gamakatsu B10s so they are big and will stayed buckled up when you catch a toad, we are also throwing a full sinking line with a 2/0 Zoo Cougar. The reason we throw both is when they are not eating up top then we can go subsurface and most likely get the hooks up. Here is Matt with a decent Brown that he caught on a Lemming Mouse. The highlight of the night came around 1:30 am when I just heard a sip on the top of the water and my line went tight and the fight was on. The 8wt was bent over and the fish on the other end was digging in. He gave a couple of good head shakes and I knew right then this was the fish I had been hunting for a long time. Then with no warning he came charging to the boat, I could barely strip the line in quick enough to keep him tight , John was rowing as fast as he could in reverse as to help me out. Next thing I knew he was under the boat shaking his head giving it all he had to break loose and that instant he came springing out of the water and landed next to the boat, John netted him and with a sigh of relief I knew I was looking at a fish that had haunted me for years fishing the mouse. 29"*15" As far as the day time with 35 mw fishing was good. Fishing was consistent we picked up several fish first thing in the morning throwing the 56er and some variations with it in other colors like olive, brown and black. Fishing with with a full sink line and 4x tippet. Nothing very big but just a lot fish that are always fun to catch striping streamers. Matt was working on his slam but we could never find the Cutthroat to complete it, here is a Brooke that he caught on a 56'er. What a great few weeks it has been low flows at night has created ample fishing opportunities, and as you all know Night Time Is The Right Time. We have been floating a lot and with my real gig, I have not had time to post anything. So this a report covers about 3 or so weeks of fishing the White at least once or twice a week, we have been launching the boats around dark and fishing it hard for about 4-5 hours. I don't have any place to stay so I have been just turning and burning so I am home in time to get my daughters to school. We have been chunking mice and big streamers when the fish won't eat on top we go down below and feed them. For the most part water has been between 7mw and 35mw, I feel the fishing is better between 35 and 50mw though. Just swing and strip it in and boom they will tell you when they are ready to eat, also on the mouse when they come up and miss it just let the fly sit don't move it the fish is still there around it do a couple of small strips and usually they will attack it again but this time they will connect. Some nights we are catching a lot of fish and some nights we don't catch very many worst night I have had so far is 1 fish best night is 13. You might be saying that's not very many either way, however they are all Browns and most nights they are all over 20 inches. To me fishing for Browns at night is the only way to go as that is when they are doing there thing and feeding most big fish are nocturnal and only will feed at night. When fishing the mouse it is very important to cast it out as far as you can the further the better off you are I will tend to have a sore shoulder the next day as I am trying to carry as much line as possible 70-80 feet every cast on a 7 wt. I am using floating line along with about 10 foot of straight 20 pound Seagar fluorocarbon. Let it swing in the current and then when it is straight start stripping 90% of the time when the fish hits it will be at the end of the swing. However that other 10% will follow it right up to the boat and attack it within 15 foot of the boat. Most nights all we only catch are Browns and good quality healthy fish ones that like to fight and are full of energy. I Don't ever worry about the moon phases never have never will, as I just fish when I can but I will say that lately the new moon phase and the dark nights when the moon is up during the day have produced some of the best nights. The cool thing about the night time mouse bite is that you can actually here and see the fish most of the time eating it. There is one spot on the river that there is enough ambient light pitched in with the full moon that you can actually see the fish charging forward after the mouse, it looks like a baby shark coming after it, pretty cool if you have ever witnessed it you know what I am talking about. As far as streamer fishing we have been using a few articulated flies Kelly Gallup's Fat Head and Tommy Lynch's Drunk and Disorderly have proven to be the top fish catchers. when we fish these again we are fishing 7 to 8wt rods with floating lines if the flows are right and I am still just using straight fluorocarbon 15- 20 pound test. If the water is up say 2 units I will use a full sink line type 4 or 5 just depends on the flows on what I will use. the last few weeks it has been a floating line kind of nights. I sold my drift boat 6 years ago so I am blessed to have good friends at Fly's & Guides and Straight Out Of Cotter that have helped me make it back to the river floating at night if you want to go you should give them a call and they would be more than happy to row you down the river to catch a big brown at night. Fished Friday night and Sunday afternoon on Taney and in between floated the White river in AR all and all a great weekend of fishing. Friday night I had a buddy that has just picked up the fly fishing bug, I have had Heath out a few times with some success but not what it can be during the night. So when I looked and the CORP was going to be running 35mw, I knew it would be a perfect night for a lot of fish being caught, you might be asking yourself why would it be a perfect time for newbie well it is because "night time is the right time". To me fly fishing or well any type of fishing at night will make you a better fisherman because you can't really see anything its all off of sound and feel. Any way we put the boat in around 10pm and motored up to the cable on the south side, oh hey did I mention that I got the I-pilot form Minkota on my boat. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS WHY HAVE I NOT DONE THIS BEFORE NOW!!! We got to the spot I wanted to be put the trolling motor in the water and hit SPOT LOCK and bam just like we were anchored!!! With in 5 minutes or so Heath was hooked on his first fish at night then another and another and another in about a 2 hour time period in that one spot Heath landed almost 30 fish. It was just a fun night, no worries of catching a hog the main purpose was to catch fish and take the stress out of being a new fly fisherman an not catching fish. I know just get to the point of what we were using so you had better sit down we were using MEGA worms and a lighted glow in the dark indicator, I know right can you believe that I WAS A USING A GLOW IN THE DARK INDICATOR:))))) The White MEGA is what they wanted Friday night, had it set at about 6 foot cast it out up stream and drift it down and KAPOW the fish would just explode on it.. We fished till about 3 am fishing several different spots and each spot producing fish, nothing big just a bunch of educational silver bullets. Then there was Saturday more to come on that latter watch for a report in the White River. I got home Sunday around 9:00am from fishing the White river all night thinking I would take a nap not the case as the middle daughter wanted to go fishing, so I turned and burned down to Taney; man she can twist the arm pretty hard!! Got down to Taney and bam 35mw perfect for her to drift fish, drifting mega worms! Around 1pm they cranked it up to 150mw then 200mw, so I just decide that it would be an awesome day to teach her some High water techniques out of a boat. She caught several drifting a Green Mega Worm under an indicator had the mega worm in the high water set at about 8 foot with a bb split shot above so that it would get down in the current. Corp has changed up the generation schedule a little bit so decided to check out the 2 units last night. Put the boat in about 8:30 and took boat out 2:30 this am, boated to the cable and then floated down to fall creek and repeated. Not a bad night started out with a mouse and had a few small ones nothing to get excited about other than knowing a 12 inch fish will eat a mouse. Then the real fun came boated back to the cable and started throwing a green mega worm under a lighted indicator yes for all of you that know me, I did in fact depart from my streamers and mice for a fun filled drift of catching and boating close to a hundred fish with my good buddy Marcus. All rainbows nothing big except for 1 nice fat brown. Had the indicator set at about 7-8 foot and did not change it when drifting through the shallow parts they just wanted it last night and it was great fun. Made the drift 2 more times then decided we had tormented the trout enough and quit for the night. Tight Lines

Yes they are available the leming can be bought from “the fly shop” and Choen can be bought direct from Pat. They look complicated to tie but are easy to tie. Hope this helps.

I fish a lot mice patterns and have a lot of success with them. You just got to keep throwing them don’t give up or it will never happen. It’s all about quality over quantity and last Saturday night I had 10 browns over 20” floating from the state park to Gaston’s on the White. IMO I would rather catch a couple big ones than 100 stockers. Btw love the mouse story that’s some funny💩

The crazy thing is trying to find a pfd for a mouse so they don’t drown😂

The night bite with mice is really starting to pick up, last night caught this nice one. I fish the mouse a lot and pretty much this time of year is all I will throw at night. You will not catch a lot but you will catch quality fish just as this one. Put the boat in around 9pm fished the fall out caught this toad around 12:30am took out around 2am.

Been watching this spot for a week up by Stockton hoping that I would be able to hunt it soon, today all planets allined and it worked out! Put 8 dozen deeks out no spinners and very little calling they just wanted to be where we were set up!

I usually don’t go do the draws but I think I will attend one next time I am up and when they talk about skybusting I will interject say my peace and walk out!!😂😂

Hunted unit 3 this weekend, lots of action early only could hunt till 10 each day. Killed some mallards and one very nice canvasback drake. I usually hunt from bell to bell when I go and I wish I could have because I am sure it was good. One thing that drives me jack batty is all the sky busters, we had 3 groups back to back with in 45 min we would get a few birds to split off come around and want to work the other part of the group would be swinging around to come back and get shot at from another hunting group. I just don’t get it if people would let the birds work they would land right in there lap. I was so upset that I actually yelled at them doubt they heard me since the wind was blowing hard but I felt better😂😂 Here is Jag from Friday

Got a buddy who's Father-n-law guides on Taneycomo , Bruce Curtis who owns Payable Guide Service. He has been after me to go fishing with him for a few months now so yesterday Heath, Smiley and myself finally hooked up and went out for some fun fishing. Fished from fall creek down to the landing and down past Roark creek never fished that area just duck hunted it, I sure wish duck season was open though lots of Wood Ducks around:) I can honestly say I have never trolled for trout in my life. What a fun day we had nothing big except for one big bass that my buddy smiley caught. Keeping the line bouncing on the bottom about 100 foot behind the boat was no easy feat with no generation but with the kicker motor set on cruise control we had no worries. You may have seen his boat out on the lake it is a Wooldridge and has all the rods all over the back and top. Here is a pic of the bass that Smiley caught on a husky jerk. I will say this those Trout sure love that pink power bait. Never thought I would ever be able to say that in a fishing report😂😂 it was a good time for sure!!

It was a glow stick that they use for golf balls and we put in a large teardrop foam indicator.

Run the water that's all the Corp wants to do and all I want to do is fish!! So last night for the first time ever I fished a lighted indicator along with a buddy of mine. I know this die hard streamer fisherman did just that. The results put the boat on the water at 10:15 boated to the cable took the boat off of the water at 1:15am. We fished the mega worms all colors white,red,pink& cream. Fishedthem about 8-9 foot deep and boated over 50 fish to the boat. Nothing huge but had some great quality bows along with a few browns. Fished the south side then would switch to the north side and picked up around 5-6 fish per drift. I never thought I would ever do this but you have to adapt and I think I am hooked! Well shoot I would have love to talk to ya next time you see my longbboat up there give us a shout. You could have got in with us and drifted it has been good. Just hard to drift the north due to the waders. I had Olivia out with me last Sunday and I just anchored in front of outlet 1, so she would have a chance at some big browns. It seemed to work out until some guy decided he need to come across a pod of fish neck deep for no reason😂😂

Well then that must mean the continued run of the water is due to the others not able to produce enough power. I hope they get the right eggs this year and they are coho salmon like they have done in the past😂
