I am hoping to retire in NW Arkansas 4 years from now. i am a avid bank fisherman and enjoy gear as well as Fly fishing with a spey rod for stealhead. Looking into "best places to live" if you like river fishing, Mountain home came up as one of the best. The white River (south fork) that is near mountain home looked like a great river to fish for trout. And the lakes nearby looked great for boat fishing for Strippers. I did not care for mountain home so much. the town just does not do it for me. Now Bentonville seems like a lot better choice to buy a house but its kinda far of a drive. Are there good rivers to fish near bentonville or is it mostly lakes? I prefer rivers with some current so I can swing a fly. Watching a strike indicator is still water puts me to sleep :) My home water is the Clackamas river in Oregon. All replies welcome and Hello to all!

thanks for pointing out my mistake on home vs view. I now need to look back and see what town i read about a few days ago. I currently live south of Portland OR. in a city called West Linn. I mainly fish the oh to popular river call Clackamas. I have also fished every saturday and sunday for about 10 hrs each day without catching a fish since the end of April. Seems like the only 3 spots that catch fish on this river have people shoulder to shoulder fishing. I think fishing for steelhead "the fish of a thousand casts" I should have landed a few since then.

I am a few years away from retirement and was wondering if any newcomers could give me some advice on what city to move to that have friendly folks and good fishing. I primarily like to fish rivers for steelhead but would also enjoy fly fishing for trout or even lake fishing. I don't have any family to worry about or need any additional income... I hope. Currently I live in Oregon and have fished many fine rivers here. I just think it's time for another change. The reason I am looking into Arkansas is Mountain View was voted best river town and Bella Vista was voted best town. So I figure NW part of the state would put me near both A little about me, I was raised in Hawaii and consider myself caucasian even though I'm mostly spanish. (just incase that kinda thing is helpful) PS I know almost absolutely nothing about Arkansas or the Ozarks. but I do like ZZ Top. : )
