Found 8 of them the other day! Like Babler said 15-20 feet . Also don’t be afraid to try around docks . We fished from 7-11. Used worms probably could have caught a big mess , but it wasn’t worth it when it’s 95 out and the crazies are running around . They did fry up very nice though

We fished the Indian point area every morning from daylight till about 930-10 am. We only dropshotted night crawlers I had my 6 year old with me. We scratched out 6-8 keepers probably caught 12-15 each trip mostly spots every morning and several nice walleye. The last morning we hit the mother load of GIANT blue gills. All fish were in the 24-35 ft range off points. I found several on my livescope in tree tops but I never could get them to bite. Most fish I found either hit it right away when I put it in front of them or if they didn't. it took a lot of jigging the nightcrawler in their face to either spur them to bite or another came racing in off the screen to nail it. I hope someone can use this info.

Got out at about 5:45 this am.  Started at a cove just off the main channel down by Cow creek at about 6 or so.  Water temp was 85.8 with maybe 5 foot of visibility.  Looks like an algal bloom goin on.  Was not like this 3 weeks ago.  Fish were busting on top all around us sporadically for about 45 mins to an hour.  Threw spooks, and wakers with no takers.  Picked up a popper and they seemed to like that as I caught 2 in successive casts, both keeper spots, and then it was over.  Found them out in the creek channel just outside the submerged tree line suspended in 30-50ft in 70 ft of water closer to the main channel.  Started throwing the jet slab spoon and it was on!  Giant whites with some Kentuckies mixed in literally knocked the snot out of the slab spoon.  They were hitting it so hard the nearly ripped the rod out of your hand!  Also caught a nice 4-7 Largemouth and 21” walleye on the same rig!  What a morning!  At 10 am or so we were just beat after casting that slab for so long so we called it a morning! Caught 29 total, no shorts.  Mostly whites 4 spots, 1 Largemouth and the kicker walleye.  Bass were released unharmed.  Can’t say that for the whites!  Gonna have some of them Friday night!   What a blast!  Good luck

Thanks Dave, great report.  Spoke to McClelland this morning and he has been out a couple of times since getting home from Tejas.  Said he has been trying to catch  them on a McStick, but his wife Stacy is killing him from the back of the boat with a small swim bait so when in Rome?
He was also going out this morning to fish run off in the backs of the creeks and coves in the mud, so he was going to call if he caught any good ones.  Said the ramp at Old 86 was closed due to high water.
    Good Luck

Well you may be in luck, the best way is filleted breast, tenderize it a little, wrap.it around a sliver of jalapeno, season it, wrap in bacon and grill it hot.  Of course duck, dove and maybe cat turds are edible that way.

In fact, as code phrases go I'd rank that one as even more instructive than, "She has a great personality."

Beautiful morning- a little breezy but manageable.
On the water at 7.15 or so, finished up at about 12.  WT was 48-40 when we started. Saw some 50’s when we left.
6 fish- decent quality today.  1 LM, 1 Smallie, and some spots.

Saw some fish around shad in back of Viney- not a ton but we stopped and gave it a try.  Got one one chunky spot a swim bait there.  Couldn’t get anything else to bite so moved on pretty quickly.

Found a main lake chunk rock bank and combed through it with the ned and some swim baits.  Disclaimer- I am not a ned guy and before today I had zero confidence in it despite some efforts.  But I stuck to it and it paid off.  One stretched produced 5 fish including a decent LM and a nice smallie.  Fish were in 20 feet give or take.

Saw a bald eagle on the way back to the ramp.  Overall, the 2020 fishing season is off to a solid start.

Couldn't be more right, bo. The guy in this pic let us get right up under him so close that I took this pic with my phone. He also had a buddy that was a little bit shy and flew about 100 yards away.

The fishing today was a bit slower than Christmas Eve.  And the fish seemed to be deeper, I don't think I caught one that was in water less than 20 feet deep.  Did the chartreuse head Ned rig thing again today, and I caught another keeper smallmouth and keeper walleye on it.  Couple of fat spots too.  Swimming the Ned rig over deep water was working a little better than dragging it on the bottom.  Still fishing around structure, trees, rocky points and steep chunk rock banks.
Threw a couple of different jerk baits for a bit too, and never got a bite on them.
Nice day to be out, and I was not the only one out there today.

walleye are like any other predator fish, and there has to be enough food to support or sustain them.  i've caught several walleye this fall and winter from shell knob to kimberling city.  just as the bass are, they are in areas with a tremendous food source.  in the daytime, they do like to stay on the bottom, where bass many times are suspended.  as far as how deep you might catch one is probably as deep as you see the shad if they are bottom related.
i can tell you that there are many walleye in some of the areas that i have been fishing because the signature differently that bass do.  if one really wanted to target walleye this time of the year, i think time would be better spent further down stream for a bit.  as we get back to getting longer days and the walleye begin more to think about spawning, they will quickly migrate in bigger numbers the upper end, where you are fishing.  many years ago, i went up below beaver dam at night in late january,  and we fished jerk baits.  i knew nothing about walleye fishing but my buddy was a northern transplant, and we caught the crap out of them.  just about froze to death too, and it was a full moon.  so, moon phase, amount of daylight are all triggering mechanisms for all game fish migrations.  many of those mid-lake walleye end up up where you are fishing or up the kings river when the time is right.
i've caught numerous big walleye in the run around at the mouth of the kings (on the kings river side).  the ones that i catch is just because a got a spoon or swimmer in front of them while bass fishing.  i am sure that if one geared up better, there could be many caught there, but that is dependent of if there is lots of bait there.  wherever you are going to target them, for there to be any numbers, there also has to be enough food.  food source is always the key.
and there you have an opinion from just a fisherman, but not a walleye expert.

This tree always had good fall colors, I think it is a cypress.  Only one around that part of the lake as far as I can tell, makes me wonder if it was planted there when the park went in.

Fishing was OK, started off fishing the Ned rig, couldn't get much of a bite on it, and the fish that I caught were mainly 12-13 inch spots.  Switched out to fishing a 2 3/4 inch tube on a 3/16 shaky head, and got better results, still mainly spotted bass, but got average size was better.  Only caught one smallmouth, a 12" dude, and only one largemouth, 14 incher.  Fish I caught were on bluffs, steep banks, and points, anywhere from 5 to 30 FOW.
16 bass, 5 were keepers - seems to be a pretty good year class of 15-17 inch spots in the lake this year.

Yes we are targeting walleye and learning the areas we fish and looking for good structure. Earlier in the year my son caught a 27 in Walleye. Liprippa is my son and we've been working as a team in the boat bottom bouncing and using the electronics searching them out. We both love to fish. After he caught his 27 inch fish we talked about not keeping the big ones and just keeping the eaters/ 18 inch keepers trying different tactics besides just bottom bouncing spinners and having fun when we have some success using other trolling methods. To me that's what fishing is all about. Especially with my own son. Good clean fun 🙂
