Really good day today. Caught fish regularly all day long. Probably 10-15 keepers. Really good morning bite with cloud cover. Several spinnerbait fish early. Then went to shaky heads, ned, and finese jig. Wife put a big fish  whoopin on me. We were fishing around a dock in the back of a creek and she yelled “NET”.  I said your hung up, your line isn’t moving. Well I was very wrong. Fish went right at 6lbs.

Fried. Baked. Chowder. Fishcakes. Fish pie. I have posted them all, and, when made with walleye, each is wonderful.

Finally got a keeper sized walleye - as a matter of fact I caught 2 keepers today.  Couple of short walleye too, one was just a hair short of 18", it was tough to let it go when at the time I had one in the livewell, but I just could not get it to that 18' mark.
These walleye were all on gravel points in about 10 FOW.  One on a Pointer 78 and the others on the 2.8 Keitech.
Bass fishing was slow for me, caught 9 spots and only one was a keeper.  Most came on the Ned rig.  I found a school of them just inside a cove in the trees, they were goofy biters, missed several but caught 5 in that school which was my bass fishing highlight of the day.  Caught a couple on the 78 too.
WT was 43 when I launched and almost 46 when I came in.
Roaring River was hopping when I drove through, had about 8 vehicles backed up at the stop sign to get onto 112.  River was lined with people, fly rods in hand, near the bridge.  Nice day to be out.

saturday night was windier than heck.  ended up with 7 keepers.  biggest was in the 4 lb. range.  caught some on a 1/2 Elite SpinJig, june bug, with # 6 nickle colorado blade.  caught some on the 1/4 GrassJig with buzz cut skirt, and some on the 3/8 GrassJig brown and blue, with blue trailer.  bank to 15 ft.
last night had over a dozen keepers.  several in the 3 lb. range and one in the 7 lb. range.  it was a bit over 23 inches in length and over 8 inches tall.  everything last night came on the 3/8 GrassJig brown and blue with blue trailer.  most of the bigger ones were 10 to 15 ft. deep.  sure was good to see an actual big one again.

A couple of days ago I saw the weather forecast for today - cloudy with little to no wind and I made plans to fish today because these kind of days in the winter seem to always be good days to fish the Ned.
It was pretty good from 0730 to 1100 and then got a little spotty.  Usual winter time stuff, steep banks with timber or steep chunk rock banks were holding fish.  I'm dragging a 1/8 oz Ned on the bottom and most bites are in the 10-25 foot range.
I caught one keeper on a jerk bait, a fat 15 inch rainbow on a Wiggle Wart but the rest of my fish (22) were on a Ned.  9 were keepers, mainly 15" spots, but caught a couple of decent smalls and another keeper LM.
Only saw one other boat today, I was a bit surprised there weren't more folks out there.

I fished from 10-2 up river above Pt 15.  I threw spinner baits, brush hogs, Ned Rigs and zeros.  I only had 8 bites, all on zeros, and managed to catch 7 of them.  However only 2 would measure.  One of them was 4 1/2#.   Zero colors that worked were green pumpkin, watermelon red and dirt.  The water was typical James River off color and ranged from 55 to 60°.

Opening day of deer season and a lot of rain is a great recipe for having the lake to yourself!

On the water at about 7:00 and fished from Eagle Rock down to Big M.  WT high 50’s... and sporadic rain.  Ended up piecing together a decent day.
Started the day cranking creek arms.  Our best quality fish came on the crank- but you had to cover a lot of water to get bit.  After the rain stopped and it was slick calm we found fish scattered chasing Shad off of main lake points.  It was frustrating because it felt like no matter where you were they were juuuusst outside of casting range.  BUT with a little patience they would come up around us and it was steady enough to keep us interested and ended up with some nice spots.

Everything we caught today was caught on either a crank bait or a little swimbait.  Ended the day with 15 or so fish.

One thing we did NOT see:  Shad grouped up tight in the creeks or main lake.  Everything seemed to be spread out.

Quick trip out this morning.  As reported elsewhere:  fish are on the move but certainly seemed scattered.  We only had a few hours today.  Were on the water at about 6:40 and off by 11:00.  Thick fog this morning which really limited our options until about 9:30 when you could actually move around the lake safely.  We went out focused on creek arms (wasn't going to sit on a main lake point in the fog) and pretty committed to a shallow bite.
We caught 4 fish throwing a Loon whopper plopper and black buzz bait shallow.  2 keepers, two shorts.  We fished a couple of creeks all the way to the back but the fish came more in the front 1/3 on small points and near wood- with a little chop of the water.  Some places the water was DEAD calm and that was a no go.
When the fog burnt off we made a run down near Big M.  Found a school of spots off of a main lake point but was only able to get one to bite.  Moved back into a creek arm and caught 1 fish shallow but it was the best fish of the day.  Caught this one on a ned rig- maybe my best fish ever on the little guy.  I don't throw the Ned as much as a lot of you guys on here so I am by no means an expert BUT I have started throwing a chartreuse head on my neds and have done well at both TR and Beaver on it lately.
Seems like we are just a couple weeks away from the fall bite getting turned on.  Quite a few boats out after the fog burnt off.  I will be happy when deer season starts and the place clears out!

We fished the Indian point area every morning from daylight till about 930-10 am. We only dropshotted night crawlers I had my 6 year old with me. We scratched out 6-8 keepers probably caught 12-15 each trip mostly spots every morning and several nice walleye. The last morning we hit the mother load of GIANT blue gills. All fish were in the 24-35 ft range off points. I found several on my livescope in tree tops but I never could get them to bite. Most fish I found either hit it right away when I put it in front of them or if they didn't. it took a lot of jigging the nightcrawler in their face to either spur them to bite or another came racing in off the screen to nail it. I hope someone can use this info.

Got out at about 5:45 this am.  Started at a cove just off the main channel down by Cow creek at about 6 or so.  Water temp was 85.8 with maybe 5 foot of visibility.  Looks like an algal bloom goin on.  Was not like this 3 weeks ago.  Fish were busting on top all around us sporadically for about 45 mins to an hour.  Threw spooks, and wakers with no takers.  Picked up a popper and they seemed to like that as I caught 2 in successive casts, both keeper spots, and then it was over.  Found them out in the creek channel just outside the submerged tree line suspended in 30-50ft in 70 ft of water closer to the main channel.  Started throwing the jet slab spoon and it was on!  Giant whites with some Kentuckies mixed in literally knocked the snot out of the slab spoon.  They were hitting it so hard the nearly ripped the rod out of your hand!  Also caught a nice 4-7 Largemouth and 21” walleye on the same rig!  What a morning!  At 10 am or so we were just beat after casting that slab for so long so we called it a morning! Caught 29 total, no shorts.  Mostly whites 4 spots, 1 Largemouth and the kicker walleye.  Bass were released unharmed.  Can’t say that for the whites!  Gonna have some of them Friday night!   What a blast!  Good luck

Thanks Dave, great report.  Spoke to McClelland this morning and he has been out a couple of times since getting home from Tejas.  Said he has been trying to catch  them on a McStick, but his wife Stacy is killing him from the back of the boat with a small swim bait so when in Rome?
He was also going out this morning to fish run off in the backs of the creeks and coves in the mud, so he was going to call if he caught any good ones.  Said the ramp at Old 86 was closed due to high water.
    Good Luck

Well you may be in luck, the best way is filleted breast, tenderize it a little, wrap.it around a sliver of jalapeno, season it, wrap in bacon and grill it hot.  Of course duck, dove and maybe cat turds are edible that way.

Beautiful morning- a little breezy but manageable.
On the water at 7.15 or so, finished up at about 12.  WT was 48-40 when we started. Saw some 50’s when we left.
6 fish- decent quality today.  1 LM, 1 Smallie, and some spots.

Saw some fish around shad in back of Viney- not a ton but we stopped and gave it a try.  Got one one chunky spot a swim bait there.  Couldn’t get anything else to bite so moved on pretty quickly.

Found a main lake chunk rock bank and combed through it with the ned and some swim baits.  Disclaimer- I am not a ned guy and before today I had zero confidence in it despite some efforts.  But I stuck to it and it paid off.  One stretched produced 5 fish including a decent LM and a nice smallie.  Fish were in 20 feet give or take.

Saw a bald eagle on the way back to the ramp.  Overall, the 2020 fishing season is off to a solid start.

The fishing today was a bit slower than Christmas Eve.  And the fish seemed to be deeper, I don't think I caught one that was in water less than 20 feet deep.  Did the chartreuse head Ned rig thing again today, and I caught another keeper smallmouth and keeper walleye on it.  Couple of fat spots too.  Swimming the Ned rig over deep water was working a little better than dragging it on the bottom.  Still fishing around structure, trees, rocky points and steep chunk rock banks.
Threw a couple of different jerk baits for a bit too, and never got a bite on them.
Nice day to be out, and I was not the only one out there today.
