vonreed got a reaction from cheesemaster in Cape Fair 6/11
It looks 100 percent Cottonmouth to me. Most are darker colored, but I've seen some light like the one in your pictures also. They are to friendly for me. Me and my boy saw one just like it in Finley River yesterday just after we got done snorkeling right next to it. They hardly ever show any fear of people.

Yeah they sure seem to disappear around the 10 inch mark sometimes. But think about all those walleye you probably caught while crappie fishing.

Wow that is a neat thing to do, I've always wanted to try out a few different kayaks and canoes before buying. And never bought them because of the serious regret of not liking something. I hope they do something similar up here sometime.

vonreed got a reaction from kevthebassman in With all this flooding, where should I float???
It all depends on which section of the river you float. There are sections which you may only see a few people, if any. Then there are a couple sections which would be unacceptable to the average fisherman wanting peace. My favorite section would be from the end of V Hwy downstream to the next access. Then there are many other upstream sections which may work for you. The bridge access at 160 Hwy between Nixa and Springfield down to Delaware Town would be a good 2 day float, and avoid seeing very many people also.

Yeah I've never had that problem, you should give it up and take up golf or baking.

vonreed got a reaction from Flyguide7 in Stripers At The Dam
I was down at Powersite last night and witnessed walleye, smallmouth, and drum being caught. We caught a few crappie before we had to leave off the bank.
Today I went down and as I launched my kayak a guy was leaving with a stringer of big Drum and Stripers. I'm not sure what the guys were catching up by the fence by the dam.
I paddled across to the other side and threw a cast net for shad. I caught 5 big drum, 1 striper, and 1 25" walleye. Also got broke off with fish 4 times. A mixture of shad used with a slip bobber and bottom fishing with a sinker. Also threw jigs and caught a couple. I just thought I'd give a heads up to anybody wanting to get down there before it gets flooded big time.

I found my first spring Hen of the Woods last year. I had never seen one before. If my son hadn't deleted every photo on my phone a few months ago, I'd show a picture of it with morels in the same pic. Probably mid April. My next earliest was mid summer and then several in the fall.

Yeah it's a busy busy spot for sure. But I'm limited to a canoe and didn't wanna paddle to far. Especially without electronics to help a little.

Nice bass, it's not very often you can fish that spot with water coming in.

It's nice seeing people catching some. Me and my boys were down yesterday afternoon/evening and caught 2 whites and 2 walleye off the bank with minnows and swimming minnows.
