Made a trip to Ackerman access this morning and fishing was pretty good. Started out with the usual egg/ruby midge combo and caught some on that and then I started seeing a bit of surface activity. Switched over to a tandem soft hackle setup and that is what they wanted. Ended the morning with a couple dozen rainbows, 2 browns and 1 small cutthroat.
    Here's a few pics...

Did the corned beef and cabbage thing.Ā  Ā I was actually pretty impressed,Ā  it came out very tender. I don't believe I have any Irish descendents, so added a German flair of a Bavarian pretzel.Ā  Somewhere along the line I have German history.Ā  Or so I'm told.Ā  Ā All I know, is I'm St Louisan.Ā

Side note.Ā  Did you know, you dont have ro wait until 50 to join AARP?Ā  We saved a good amount on an upcoming cruise and on airline tickets.Ā Ā

April is a great time. Most all lodging has boat parking easy to just inquire if they have electricity hookups for battery charges.Ā

Moonshine Beach by Chateau on the Lake excellent ramp, State Park and Old 86 all fantastic ramps in the dam area.Ā
April is 2.8ā€ Keitech month Gizzard or Threadfin Shad with a 1/8-1/4 oz ball head. Also a Ned Rig in 1/16 to 1/4 is a killer for Small Jaws. Green Pumpkin and PBJ are lake standbys Ā Brown and orange also really works great Ā
Suspending stickbaits will also wack them. Not even close Table Rock Shad in the Megabass Lineup and Blue Bandit in the Spro offerings, are the best colors Ā
Smallmouth on the Rock love Ā gravel run outs and transition points going into spawning coves. At the dam donā€™t be afraid to keep the boat in 25ā€™-35ā€™ of water on these gentle run outs. Water will be 10ā€™ to 20ā€™ of visibility unless it floods. Rain really doesnā€™t make much difference. It stays clear down there.Ā
Expect the bite to be in 10ā€™ to 15ā€™ā€™ range. Also use your electronics. If you see suspended fish on your 2D sonar under the boat, BACK OUT. If you have Live Scope or Active Target. You will see them. If you donā€™t move along.Ā
    Iā€™m sure youā€™ll get some more tips.Ā
    Good Luck.Ā

    Here you go.
Jasper's marinara is pretty good stuff, but I don't know how available it is outside KC. I'm sure you could sub in any good marinara though. Also, I really think this is best with the angel hair pasta, but do what you like.Ā
Angel Hair Pasta with Tomato CreamĀ Sauce
    Ā  Ingredients
    8 ounces angel hair pasta
    5 ounces pancetta, diced
    4 ounces mushrooms, sliced
    12 ounces Jasperā€™s Marinara Sauce
    4 ounces heavy cream
    Ā¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
    4 ounces Romano cheese
    Ā½ cup green peas
    Directions
    1. Bring salted water to a boil for pasta.
    2. In a skillet, saute pancetta over low heat until fat is rendered and just turning crisp. Add mushrooms and saute until liquid is released and reduced, and rendered fat is absorbed.
    3. Add marinara sauce, cream, red pepper flakes, peas and Romano cheese. Cook over medium heat until it reaches a simmer and reduce heat.
    4. Cook pasta 4 minutes until al dente. Drain and add to skillet and toss to combine.

My dad loved Louis Lā€™Amour and read a lot of his books. He picked up one and there was a character in it with our very uncommon last name. Dad wrote Lā€™Amour and asked him how he happened upon that name. He got a letter back explaining it all. Iā€™ve got a copy of the letter here.Ā

Guys, how many movies have they made from Louis L'Amour's books? Kinda like Raymond Chandler, L'Amour's penny a word stories built the genre. Wayne even did at least one - Hondo.

Although I canā€™t compare my dad to anyone really, especially anyone well known, I have a great deal of respect for him. The older I get the more I realize it too, and I have some regret that I didnā€™t let him know it more when he was here. Same with my mom.Ā

Iā€™m a big fan of John Ford and John Wayne. I just finished watching She Wore a Yellow Ribbon again less than an hour ago. The Searchers is one of my favorites. I watched Three Godfathers again a week or two ago and I have How Green Was My Valley recorded from TCM and will watch it again soon. Quiet Man season is coming.Ā

I've always considered the Sons of Katie Elder to be my favorite Wayne movie.Ā  Dean Martin, Dennis Hopper, and Geroge Kennedy in it too.
Most leading men are short these days, Wayne would be a giant among them.
