Took Mark on a guide trip today.   The fishing was hot and cold as the fish were concentrated in certain areas due to the low water.  Still scratched out about 25 fish, the highlight being a 23.5 inch trout (probably 7lbs).  Mark hooked her in a deep hole  and it took every bit of 10 minutes or more to land her on 5x tippet. We had to chase her about 100 yards downstream.  After a couple quick pictures, she took off with the same fighting attitude she displayed during the fight.  By the way, we both about lost our minds when she launched herself about 3 ft out of the water about a minute into the fight.   www.elevenpointflyfishing.com

Got out and guided brothers Brian and Jeff on 12/29/17 and the fishing was good. Thankfully, we got a little bit of a respite from the bitterly cold weather of late. After fighting frozen guides in the morning, it warmed up to 40 degrees. The trout were hitting marabou jigs fished under an indicator way better than anything else we tried, though we didn't try too much else because it was working so well. Also caught was a smallmouth, pickerel and hog sucker. We had great day and the company was wonderful. By the way, we saw absolutely no one else on the river all day, though we did see lots of eagles. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com

Got out today and fished with part of the gang that fished with me in Patagonia last winter for a few hours. The good news, the recent cold snap brought some smallmouth into some of their wintering holes. That said, the river is still way low, so they are pretty spooky. Regardless, we caught both trout and smallmouth today. If we get more rain, fishing will get only better and the trout fishing is pretty good now. More water and the smallies will get better. It was great getting out with Matt and Bryon today.www.elevenpointflyfishing.com

Got out and guided David and Paul the last couple of days. On the first day we really had to work to get the fish to bite, at least it felt that way, but in the end we had boated around 40 trout. We caught most the fish on marabou jigs under an indicator and a few on stoneflies. Today I decided to go a little smaller, which is against the norm on the Eleven Point. We fished copper Johns today and from the get go the trout were all over them. Probably 50-60 fish today with a better average size. On a side note, we are very dry down here. Avoid campfires and don't throw cigs out the window. On the way out of Turner yesterday the forest service was fighting a small fire about 3 miles up the road from the river. This morning, we saw smoke down river when we first put in so we went back to the car and I called the forest service to see if the fire had gotten worse. At that point they said it was fine, but after a windy afternoon, when we pulled out the fire had made it an half mile from the Turner access. The fire crews were putting in some hard work. I heard we might get a little rain tomorrow, fingers crossed.www.elevenpointflyfishing.com

Alex Turley made a great video about a day on the 11 Point with me guiding and his buddy Matt Green fishing.  It has great footage and discusses the impact of this past spring's record floods.  https://www.facebook.com/brian.sloss.5

Got out yesterday to fish for fun, rather than a guide trip. Along for the ride were friends Justin Spencer and Denny Robinson. The river fished great, though still very low. Marabou Jigs were the most effective, though we caught plenty on Stoneflies as well. As usual, fishing deep was key. Tried throwing streamers on a sink tip a little, but no love there.  The big fish of the day was a fat 18 inch rainbow. By the way, we had the whole river to ourselves.   Now that I have sold the canoe rental, I am guiding more.  www.elevenpointflyfishing.com

After 14 seasons in the canoe rental business, we have sold the business. I want to take a minute to thank all the friends/customers I have made over the years, it has been an honor sharing the 11 Point River with all of you. I also want to thank all the employees we have had over the years, who made running the canoe rental possible. I especially want to thank my business partner, Ryan Griffin, and Brenda and Joe Oneill, who have been with us since day 1 and have been invaluable. The new owners will be Mike and Wendy Jones. They have 19 years of experience in the canoe rental business, so your canoe rentals will be in good hands. I hope all of you will continue to use the Eleven Point Canoe Rental.
That said, I will still be in the area and will continue to guide fly fishermen through the Eleven Point Canoe Rental and I will still continue in the cottage rental business. The cottage rental business will be called the Eleven Point Cottages and a web site and Facebook page should be up in the next few days. If you want me to set up a guided fly fishing trip or a cottage rental, you can reach me at 417-270-2497. The canoe rental number is still 417-778-6497. Thanks again and please say hi to me if you pass me on the river.
