  1. Buried an uncle, neighbor and coworker last year due to Covid malarky.
  2. Went down on 5-10. With the rain the stream is remarkably in the banks and was trying to clear up from the color of a carp hole as the day went on but sight fishing still difficult . Caught 2 trout at 15 inches the rest stocker size. Brother though I don't know if it was the stream conditions or the cold front but you needed a sense of humor . Every fish you caught you better plan on changing to a new color or a different lure. After 3 hours ran out of color combinations and I was running out of ideas . Bait fishermen weren't doing that great but a fellow next to me did fair with a charteuse colored Wee Rebel. Jigs and worms still work but you better be ready to change it up.
  3. Sorry should read Oct 18.
  4. Water holding in potholes so they had a good rain explaining the brown water with the green water but sight fishing still possible. Aggressive fish today in that if you didn't get a hit in 5 casts move. Quite a few 2 pounders and all fish made the drag sing. Only had to release 2 small ones with the rest stringer worthy . In 2 hours must have caught 30 fish. Red and white still the hot colors for lures or bait.
  5. Water has that blue green tint to it making sight fishing rough. Water level is slightly high but still holding a few remnants of vegetation cutting. Did great with white or orange worms but my fishing buddy finally had to give up on spinner lures. Tried the fly rod for awhile but at 92 degrees it became work. One of the regulars said there are still a lot of hold over lunkers from Ladies Day.
  6. Water is over the rock dams but still quite clear. Fish are picky and in the chase and short strike mode. Orange and red are still the hot colors but did fair with the green jig with white rubber legs. A couple to release but over all a lot of 1 to 2 pounders. Noticed that the guys using bait all had bright colors
  7. Water is high enough to cover some of the rock dams with a green tint to it but sight fishing is very possible. Started half way down where I could just see the bridge but had little success with 2 small ones. Seemed like if you caught one you had to move.Didn't see the bait fishers having much luck. White and orange were the best colors for jigs or worms. Slow turn out with only 30 cars in the park when I left at 10. Guess the weatherman scared everyone away.
  8. Steam is looking like a place to trout fish again. Water is well within its banks and has that blue tint to it. Started upstream and just started tossing a brown nymph into any good looking spot. Really wasn't a bad hole with several fish going 2 pounds and really putting up that good fight with lots of jumps. Stream had a few more fisherman with families getting in that 1 more trip before school starts. 1 fellow really had the secret lure in a brown wooly worm with a red tip and a silver spinner. It was 1 cast and 1 fish for him for several minutes. Didn't really see 1 bait better than another that day---everyone seemed to have 2 or 3 on the stringer. Vegetation has been cut recently so few hang ups.
  9. Went down on 5-13 and the water is very high and murky but according to the staff there the spring is falling. Couldn't really see fish but more like shadows in the water. Now for the whine. Okay we have all been there at one time or another where the fish chase a spinner bait but won't bite and the only bite you get on a jig is just shy of the hook. I swear a fish will question your frustration level. Good news is there are a lot of good size fish when you do hook one and they are fighting like they're five pounders. Plenty of runs and aerobatics with the jumps. Park really looks good for Kids Fishing Day and hoping the weatherman is wrong for them.
  10. .....and I'm against fishing in the rain......but I'm for love and I'm for happiness.....shoot now I just have to remember who sang that
  11. I caught 5 on the small side while my companions each caught 3 but larger at 12 to 16 inches.
  12. Went down on 3-11 and the fishing was tough. I guess I went through half a spool of line breaking off the old lure and tieing on the new one looking for what the fish wanted.Threw pretty much everything at em.Best success was with an olive colored jig. Water is a little off color but you can still sight fish.Went with Dad and the 2 nephews who threw all the color combinations that Berkley makes with the best luck on yellow. I was very surprised at the number of fisherman there on a Wed. Must have been better than 400 at the siren. Spring fever or a lot of schools on spring break I guess. It was fun though seeing all the grandfathers with a young en' with them.
  13. I heard they have done a pretty major dredge at Roaring River. Then I met someone over the weekend who said the papers mentioned working on the dams at Maramec Park. Any truth to it or any other work done to the stream?
  14. The water is high but for the most part back in the banks. In some of the low spots it's lapping over but no big deal. You can forget sight fishing for a while. The water is as cloudy as your favorite carp hole but perhaps because I was getting used to it seemed to be picking up a green tint by the end of the day. I had absolutely no luck fishing any kind of spinner lure due to the current. Jigs, nymphs and worms were also unproductive. The fish I saw getting caught were normal stocker size but you had use the putty baits or the DD types. Park took a little beating due to the flood but the crews seem to have a good handle on it. The one good thing I can say is the stream was cleared out due to the flood of a lot of moss and vegitation. First trip in over over year now that the Doc has released me. Yeah no fish but I still had a better day then most people.
  15. Water is clearing nicely so sight fishing is no problem. Caught several nice ones above 2 lbs using the green jig and copper johns. Saw several bait fishermen doing well on bright orange. Really some nice fighters that made 4 or 5 runs on you. Park looks nice and crowds are no problem except for the flat water area. So thats it for me this season since the Doc's removing part of the leg. May your lines be tight and your dip nets wet the rest of the year.
