The summer of 2015, things were going good.  Kids are out of the house, everything paid for, and time to spend enjoying life.  Around the campfire, I professed a plan.  I was going out and start doing other places.  New places.  I have not dipped my toes in salt water, just waders in Alaska.  There are many lakes I want to try.  I want to see big ships, naval ships.  You guys know what happened and things got stalled.  Cancer whacked me twice and the wife had a mild stroke.  Both of us are back up to speed again.
I have hit Normandy Lake and Tims Ford this year, one of the things we talked about that summer.  Tomorrow I embark on a journey to Cordell Hull for a couple of days, something we talked about while camped below Center Hill Lake that summer.
Next month, the trip I had planned that Thanksgiving week along the MO/Ark Line will hopefully take place.  And then I will see the ocean and the big boats with the wife.  DR visits are every 6 months now and don't eat up all of my vacation and spending money.  Life has returned.
Ducks are on the horizon again, may go looking for teal with my new 20 ga if a cold front hits in the next few weeks.

Hello, all. It's been a minute. I recently backpacked in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness for a few very chilly and snowy days, took a fly rod,  and this forum
came to mind when I got back. Here are some pictures. None of them are of the fish, because not one of the 7 or 8 cutties I caught was longer than the cork section of my fly-rod. Blame the snowmelt and the raging flows in the upper Arkansas watershed, or my thin backcountry fly-box at your discretion. Only place I found any feeding fish was in backwaters and beaver ponds.

The elk outnumbered the folks we saw outside our party, 5-2. It was a hell of a trip, with several 14ers summited, a lot of avalanche debris waded through and plenty of use for the snowshoes.

He is and a well respected one....it amazes me the lack of respect some on this forum give to those in the fisheries community, those very individuals give us the greatfishing and hunting we enjoy today Evan does a great job and is consulted by people in many states

I made a lengthy drive to Fish smallies out of the trout boat. I could have stayed local and punched 100 trout in the face, but I wasn’t feeling it.
I  ran some scary shallow stuff full of big wood that would have been disastrous to hit. I ended up jamming my jet with rocks and lost a lot of fishing time clearing that.
I caught 61 fish and best I can tell 11 species. I had a lot of fish come unbuttoned. Current does that .
I had an 18 1/2 Smallie on a crankbait. Ned was underwhelming yesterday. A few on Topwater, but disappointingly few.
You guys don’t understand How good John is at Micro fishing. It is a different skill set to spot an individual tiny fish and successfully target them. Current, water clarity, glare, presbyopia, and competing other fish all vex you. I did a little of that thing yesterday and remembered how good at it he is.
any how, the 61  fish yesterday puts me over 2000 fish caught for the 10 th year in a row. I still have plenty of time left to get past 3000 and will see how it all ends up, but I’m thinking I will get to 30,000 Fish caught since I startrd keeping a hard count in 2008.

I don't particularly care about when/whether this is allowed for deer hunting, but I do get a bit annoyed when people use crossbows and other non-bow things during archery season and call it "bow-hunting". I'm fine with you doing it, I'm fine with it being legal, but it is not bow hunting.* It's like using a glo-ball under a bobber with a spinning rod in the fly area of montauk and calling it fly fishing. No problem with you doing it, but you are not fly fishing.
*Doesn't apply to folks that are doing it for health/disability reasons.

Well that is just terrible advice.  The feral hogs were established to help eat rattlesnakes, so that is the populations to target.  Or maybe not if the hogs have eaten them all.  Could go either way I guess.

Pretty good morning on the water. Nothing of much size, but plenty of action all through. Best right around dawn, unsurprisingly. #16 bh hares ear the star performer.
Hit both Baptist and Parker. A bit better at the former,  I suppose, but not a real noticeable difference.

That is not smart. Slight segue, but I saw a couple of timber rattlers early this morning on a rocky mountaintop in the Kentucky Appalachians. Managed to step out of the way in time. Afterwards I regretted not getting any pics, but in the moment I was fairly intent on getting myself and my crew out of there without any further excitement.
