I've painted a bunch of these and they seem to be a really good lure. As with all of the jerk baits I use a 2 part spray on clear coat similar to an automotive clear to help eliminate any extra weight. You should be fine with the etex as I know of many other guys using something similar with good results. All jerk baits are finicky when it comes to making the suspend right. There are so many variables such as water temp, barometric pressure, floating mono line, sinking fluorocarbon, ect. Can't wait to see how they turn out!
