Lucky Fly

Fished Roaring River a few times and having trouble understanding the hatches. What types and size flies do you use for the BWO and Trico hatches. Also, what times do the hatches usually start.

I live in Huntsville, Arkansas and consider Beaver my home water. I fish my 7'7" 3 weight all the time in the "new" special regulation zone and really enjoy catching the stockers. I rarely catch anything over 14". I would vote for improving the flow through minimum flow and creating habitat by placing boulders, etc. in the stream bed.

I second Northern Banded Water snake. Non-venomous.

WET, WET, WET Fished the top of the special reg section just below the narrows for a couple of hours yestarday afternoon, Water was still dropping out and a little off color from generation and runoff from the rain. Caught 6-10 on various flies including Tungscuds, PSII's, and zebras. Did manage one brown trout and caught a fiesty 13 inch rainbow on a sparkle emerger. Tight Lines Steve

Dry fly fishing is always possible at RR. However, it has been a little slow lately. Some BWO, caddis, and midges are hatching each day. I would try a griffeth's gnat, smaller x-caddis, or a small adams. Good luck and give us a report when you get back. I will be up on Saturday.

I took my son fishing the C&R season all the time and was under the impression he needed the $3.50 trout stamp to fish C&R in the park. We have been checked a few times. I would spend the $7.00 and get the tags. tight lines

Had a good day fishing the riffles around Parkers Bottom. Caught several on PS2's, g-bugs and two bit scuds. Some nice browns hanging out. Sorry no pictures this time, forgot the camera in the jeep. Fishing the one fly Sunday, hope to see everyone out to support the event.

Wooly Bugger, I use a small squirrel strip streamer tied on TMC 200R size 16 and an ostrich bugger on scud hooks 16 and 18. Send me your address and I will send you a few. tight lines steve

I use a 3 wt. at taney all the time, but I am not throwing big streamers either. I match the rod weight with the size of fly I am throwing more than to a specific river. steve

Beaver is just under flood pool at 1129.4 (1130 is flood pool). Hopefully, with Beaver crested and inflow from tribs matching outflows from the dam, they have beaver under control and should be able to shut the flood gates today. This will begin to help table rock with inflows. Thoughts and prayers to those individuals effected by the floods. steve

Good afternoon, I am coming to Branson in May for a basketball tourney that my son is playing in. Thought I would throw the fly rod in and catch some time below the dam. I was wanting to know if anybody swings cracklebacks below the dam like you would soft hackles. I can't get the knack of tying soft hackles, but love tying cracklebacks (both beadhead and regular.) If you do what size and color is most effective. thanks steve

Hello, Fished Roaring River this weekend and had a great time. Weather was perfect and fishing was good. Caught several fish but nothing with any size. River looks good after it came up some from the rain the first of last week. Usual patterns worked: pheasant tails, scuds, zebras, woolies, and BWO in the afternoon. Had a chance to meet another OAF member, Troy Simonton and his dad from Kansas. Both great gentlemen. I had bought a furled leader from Troy and had not got it yet (it was waiting in the mail when I got home), so Troy gave me one on stream to try for the day. I was very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the ability of the leader to turn over effortlessly. I would highly recommend Troy's leaders to anybody. Tight Lines Steve

Beaver is fishing really well right now. With generation not occuring until late afternoon, plenty of wading opportunities are out there. Hot flies are small pheasant tails, tungston zebra midges, with scuds and sowbugs thrown in for some variety. Smaller the better with tungston beads. I would also recommend yarn indicators right now for there sensitivity in low water. tight lines steve
