I got to fish several times in Montana primarily on Belt Creek east of Great Falls.  I struggled the first couple of trips out, but finally figured something out after the weather changed.  I had been throwing hoppers, ants and beetles and getting quite a few swirls, but few hookups.  We made a side trip up to Eureka Montana to attend a wedding and I got a couple of hours on the Tobacco River.  I caught 3 kokanee salmon.  Back to Great Falls and on Labor Day the weather changed. It snowed in the higher elevations. After that I switched to a purple haze. It was game on after that.  Nothing big, but lots of action. My biggest was a 17 inch brown.  I caught browns, rainbows, cutthroats, and I think even a cutbow.  On our way back to Missouri, we stopped for the night in Buffalo Wyoming.  I fished Clear Creek there and the purple haze was the ticket there too.

I fished out of State park today from 10:30-3:30.  I fished between there and Orleans Trail.  I caught 14 bass all on Zeros.  They were in coves in about 6 fow.  I couldn't get a bite deeper than that.   I weighed my best 5.  They ranged from 4.75 pounds to 2 pounds for a total of 14.5 pounds.

Finally..  I have been terrible on Stockton so far this year.  Fished for about 7 hours yesterday. Finally found a few with about an hour and a half to fish. Ended with 5 keeper. Took home a limit. It was hard to quit when I was still catching them.  Could not keep bass off the harnesses. Caught several small mouth and large mouth and spots.  All were caught bottom bouncing with harnesses. 16ft was best.

Put in at Long Shoals about 9:00 am.  Water temps were 57 to 58 to start the day and when we got off the water at 5:00 pm they were running 64 to 65 in the back ends of the big coves.  Spent the day looking for crappie.  Had one in the first hour, and only 4 in the first 4 hours. Around 2:00 pm it started changing.  As the afternoon wore on the crappie fishing got better and better.  We started catching them shallow.  We hit one stretch of bank probably 25 feet long where we caught 15 to 20.  I don't fish Truman a lot, but the size of the fish was really impressive.   Nothing under 10 inches and most of them were 11 to 12 1/2.  We caught our limit of 30. All were males.  We also caught a ton of small bass in the 8 to 13 inch range.

Anyday taking kids fishing is a good day! My oldest had the magic bait, blue backed orange belly rattle trap. He was catching everything, and ended up with his first ever walleye. Caught a few female largies in the back of the creeks real shallow even after that cold night last night. It was a good day.

Spent 4 of the last 5 weeks quarantined at the house. Finally got a chance to escape and went to Stockton. Launched at the Mutton Creek ramp at 6:40am. Water temp was 53.4*, air temp was mid 30's. Started out with a Mega bass vision 110+1. With no takers after several casts I started throwing rattle trap, nothin'. Picked up my pole with one of the custom painted Wiggle Warts and caught a nice one on my first cast. Then Gary started catching them on his PBJ ned rig. In the first hour he had me down by 3 or 4 fish so I put the crank bait down and started catching them on the ned also. Over the next hour of so we learned that the crank bait bite was better in the wind but the ned would take over when the wind lay down. Main lake windy points were best but secondary points worked too. The very backs of the coves and pockets were no good but from the points to halfway in was money. We wound up catching a bunch ....good ones too.

Thursday evening went fishing around Mutton Creek in spawning pockets.   Primarily caught on a craw colored spro rock crawler 8-10 fow.  My son had 3 on a spinnerbait same depth.  Great time with son and grandson.  Always fun when fish are active before a front.

Me and a buddy hit the water around 8:30 am. Put in at Orleans Trail and started there.  Water temps were 53 to 56 throughout the day.
I would first like to say that I am extremely disappointed in President Trump and the CDC.  The bass seem to have followed the social distancing guidelines. They obviously distanced themselves from me and each other. 😀
We only caught 6 fish, however 2 of them were really nice.  3 came on an elegy bone Megabass 110+1.  One came on a slow rolled spinnerbait.  Two came on the ned.  All of them came from just outside of the bushes.
I really don't have a clue where they are staging. In the bushes, outside of the bushes, out deep, etc.   It was a tough day.
