Quick 2 Day Getaway

Recommended Posts

If you make it out this week, let us know how you fared. I'm hoping to take my 1st grade daughter back that way for a camping/fishing trip this weekend. I'd like to check out Mill, Spring, and possibly Roubidoux while we're in the area. Any advice on either creek regarding access points?

Plenty of access on Mill...There's Forest Service Land above and below Bohigian Conservation Area, so you have a couple miles of creek to fish. There are maps on the MDC Site, and check out the Kaintuck map on the Mark Twain National Forest site.

Spring Creek...All the access is on the lower end..The bridge, the TU lot, and theres a Forest Service Road that hits the creek aways upstream from the TU lot...maybe a mile or a mile and a half of public water. Getting around is tough too...Lots of high Mudbanks, loose gravel, heavy brush, and some deep pools that you cant wade. Strictly private on the upper end but its a pretty valley, and Relfe Spring is worth a look even if you cant fish there.

The Roubidoux, plenty of access at the City Park on the upper end...middle section...youd have to knock on doors for permission, or blatently walk through someones yard. There are a couple spots to park by the road on the lower end. Have a great trip.

I've had the best luck in the Bohigian section of Mill, but that's just my opinion. It seems like there is more fish there than in other areas.

Have you ever tried under the bridge there on 63. There are some nice deep pools around uner and above the bridge holding some really nice size fish.

Thought I'd report back. Went to LP with my daughter and her boyfriend. I guided and each of them caught 8 or 9 lovely little wild rainbows. The boyfriend did catch a beautiful 16.5 incher, on his first day ever fly fishing. He doesn't even realize what a nice wild trout that is. The stream was in great shape, thankfully the past wet 3 years have been kind to our little jewels.

Fish can be caught there most of the time, but it's better a bit further down.
