Ozark Region Hog Hunting

Recommended Posts

Any news on established populations of hogs in the Ozark region? I live in Ft. Leonard Wood and was told there are high numbers of hogs in the Mark Twain forest, but have seen none. Any pointers or tips on locations would be great. Thanks.

there's some out the back gate of the fort down J hwy. Most of the guys that get them trap them with spring loaded cattle panels after baiting them. other than that it's a dog deal close here as far as I've heard. Not great numbers of hogs, I think the acorn crop failures the last few years hurt as well. Very closed bunnch that use hounds. Maybe somebody else can give you better insight where you can find huntable numbers MDC is trying to eradicate what there is now.

check MDC's website, I think they have some pretty detailed stuff about where the problem hogs are. you dont need a hunting license to shoot them either, kill on sight order is in effect. just make sure you are otherwise legal for hunting, ie, plugs in shotguns, legal calibers, not tresspassing, etc etc.

Ran across some sign where they were using an area back before turkey season while mushroom hunting. It was on MDC land on the Castor River near the shooting range. But, they are normally nocturnal, so finding them is pretty hard.

Pretty good population in the Potosi area.
