Rude , Mean People

Recommended Posts

I think I can help you avoid most of these type of encounters....

Try this...

The next time you find yourself fishing in a well groomed community hole, ya know, the type of spot where a fat guy could sit on a chair along the bank and flyfish,...... go ahead and just walk to a slightly more remote spot.

If you hadnt specified where this confrontation took place I could have easily guessed either the outlet or the apron.

I'd agree with the Wrench.....if you havent paid your dues in boot leather or paddle stokes...you have no reason to expect exclusive or even reasonable use of the stretch of water you want to fish..choose wisely.

I'm not complaining that I didn't have enough room in the well groomed community hole. I expect a little elbow to elbow in these places sometimes, its just the way it is. I went there because I had kids with me 6, 9, 11 years old. I was 8 or 10 feet down stream from the fat POS. I have been going to BSSP for 35 years. I have seen just about everything. I've seen guys in waders wade right in front of me and my kids and start using their fly rods.I too have a fly rod, and, I would never walk in front of anyone. Some people think that if you use a fly rod you have the right of way. It's just not true. Something else to think about, If you go to cast your rod and hook someone. Who's liable? Even if it's an accident. If the person that you have hooked wants too, Can you be sued?

True. I believe that when we take our fly rods to these more family friendly spots, it is up to us to expect to be crowded and to watch out for everyone else.

I agree with this in a lot of circumstances. BUT in this instance jimf1969 was not expecting exclusive use of a stretch of water in bssp. All he was asking for was common courtesy. To me this guy's behavior goes beyond just being rude. It sounds like he's borderline dangerous.

Thank you Greg. You seem to under stand my point. I'm not special, I don't want the whole place to myself. Just want to have fun with my kids and catch a few trout.

There's no doubt that the guy is an a hole, but he did give you warning by sitting in a chair. Right then the something ain't right light should have gone on.

Next time go down to the Long hole, you're more apt to find enough space to spread some youngsters out and the fish bite just as well there.

Jim, I get your point. That guy is clearly a knucklehead out to protect his little spot at the trout park or where ever, and doesn't mind being an a-hole to accomplish it.

You did the right thing just letting it go -- taught those kids a valuable lesson. Teach them another by just going somewhere else next time. Lotsa places out there.
