2014 Garden

...is running behind. The weekends have been pretty cold this month, so stuff I usually have in the ground by now isn't out. We actually had snow this morning. Temp was mid-40s today; we should be 55-60. Snow forecast for tomorrow. I'm tired of this!

Bunch of stuff under the lights that'll do fine until I get them out. But I like to get some stuff going outside about now too-- like peas, radishes, lettuce, cabbage, beets, carrots. Too cold and wet right now.

Where are you gardeners in all this? Anything interesting planned for this year?

I went to a raised garden (old dog learned a new trick). I used rice hulls, cotton bur compost, vermiculite & peat moss. I have planted lettuce, snap peas, onions & spinach so far. Also added a little bone, cotton seed & kelp meal for minerals.

May be some high price vegs but it is easy to work and do not need my tiller any more.

Yeah -- I went back to raised beds a few years ago after a hiatus. Best thing I ever did.

i got 6 kinds of tomatoes under lights and thats about it.Everything else will be started in the garden. We just grow tomatoes, zucc's,yellow squash, pickles, cucumbers, jalapenos, bell peppers, bushand polebeans, and cantaloupe.Took my garden fence down a week or two ago and made the garden a little bigger.Yesterday i tilled the hay and leaves under. Will till again before i plant.Im waiting to plant this year.Remember the snow May2?I put trash bags over my tomato cages and only lost 1-2 plants.Im not gonna worry about it this year and im just gonna wait.I dont like buying my plants from the stores.I messed up and forgot to save some seeds from my extra large cherry tomatoes. They were about the size of golfballs and were so easy to can.

Lettuce and snow peas under glass in one raised bed is all I have now. Peas are up to about 2" now.

Still waiting for main plot to dry out so I can get in and form up my raised beds.

Calling for a chance of snow here tonight.

Planted some onion sets a couple of days ago - never have raised onions so we'll see how that goes. Planted snow peas also.

Burpee came out with a sweet corn variety that is made for containers, going to give that a try in some of the containers I have.

Also will plant tomatoes, and cantaloupe in a few weeks.

Ness we have some lettuce, tomatoes and peppers under lights started. They were looking real good until I had them in the sun on a couple of warmer days. The tips burned some. Hope they come out of it. 24 degrees here right now this morning and it as yesterday too. Need to turn the beds and tubs but hard to excited with temps right now.

Those beds under glass are sure nice this time of year.

I've got a cold frame that will fit over one of my beds. I've got to add some new plastic for the top to add, then it'll go out there. I wanna get the peas started because they won't do well after it heats up.

I've got maters, peppers, lettuce, cabbage, collards, and a bunch of onions going under the lights. I had real spotty germination on the peppers so I'm way behind on them. I'm itching to get things going.

I started two types of tomatoes inside under a light. None of them germinated. I used store-bought seed starter. Yesterday I scooped out some garden soil and will give it another try.

I planted carrots and beets in my cold frame, yesterday.

I want some green onions this year, but I have a hard time finding onion seeds. Doesn't anyone grow them anymore?

Onion sets and bulbs are not he same. You need to start them from seed to get good, tender green onions. I remember they used to come in rolls of seed tape so they would be evenly spaced.
