That's kind of ironic blue. I go to Stockton to pick them a lot of times.

i found a spot here in Stockton that had one morel but there was like a thousand little holes through the woods where the deer had got them.I should probably go out there and start peeing on all of the trees or spray something to keep the deer out.

Ground is still pretty cold around here. Leaf litter packed tight this year from the snow and sleet. They should stick out good when they pop up. Grass just started showing some green here this week.

Last year it was hard to find them with the leaves all fluffed up and dry.

I will give it a week or so. Peak usually is April 17 thru first part of May here. There may be a few grays next week.

the first time it's 75 during the day and 55 at night for three days in a row, there will be blacks up at my early spot in McDonald County. Of course crappie will be on the bank and Turkey season will be open somewhere too. Not enough hours in the day during April.

Yeah, I looks at morelhunters.com and the map shows them south still. Not surprised --- it's been cold.

Water temp at a local lake was at 55 degrees this weekend, somehow. It was cold and rainy all day Sat and 29 degrees Sunday morn. Somehow things are warming up.

Looking at the forecast and how things are starting to show around here, I may go out this weekend and look for some greys. Even though it seems early, it looks like a warmup is coming.

I tend to see mayapples blooming and trilliums around when the mushrooms are peaking around here. I have seen no mayapples yet.

But I am getting the itch.

Dandelions in bloom is a good indicator. None here yet. Kc is usually a week behind STL. Leonard is usually picking a week before STL.

What's a trout lilley?

Dandelions are showing here on the north hillsides, bees will be happy happy. First major source of food for them.

What's a trout lilley?

A small, yellow lily that has green-gray leaves mottled with gray-brown spots similar to a trout. They bloom in early spring.

Thanks Wikipedia.

Forecast for the next week has lows around freezing, highs in the low 60s. Last year was later too. I think in '12 we were finding them 3rd week in March.

I need to find a spot like that.

I wonder how many come up and never get spotted?

As much as I wanted to believe it, this one smelled funny from the get-go. The Gap hasn't sold a shirt that lame since the '80s. :-)

That, and the Wayback Machine says the picture's been at that web address since fall 2010...

Nope, not even down here after a warm rain and a couple of 60 degree nights. A co-workers wife picked about a dozen Wednesday down towards Elkins, so it's getting closer. None for me yet.

Check it out: http://www.thegreatmorel.com/mush/pic169b.html

Seems ol' ness got in the way-back machine and traveled to Wisconsin circa 2006. What a douche. Either you found some mushrooms or you didn't.

Lighten up, Francis. :D

My yard has sure greened up, but not much else around here. Redbuds are just starting to pop, first spear of asparagus has poked its head out. I'll probably hit a spot close by here today, but my hopes aren't too high.

How are the bees making out?

It's getting harder to score in my 'hood with all the competition. Lots of good spots, but everyone knows them. Just tried a couple spots, but fresh tire tracks both times. Had a single spot of 'my own' last year, it's gone now. Gonna have to use stealth mode to scout a new one. :-(

Bees are fair. I have 2 hives that are iffy, one is queenless and the other is not laying much. Other 4 are doing fine. Cold weather delayed my order of foundation for honey supers till last week. They don't ship wax in freezing temps, too brittle. Then when I ordered they are way behind in shipping. Same goes with queens, so I have tried to let them make one.

Grass is green, but that is about it. Strawberries are perking up nicely. Trees are way behind. no life out of a redbud around here. Bradford pears should bloom later this week, that will make the bees happy.

Pears started bloom here a week ago, pretty full now. Everything else seems to be holding its' breath.
