07-16-14 Evening

Recommended Posts

Launched at pt 12 and ran up to eden's bluff stopping along the way to pick off schooling whites. Didn't have to run too far before we hit the first school and started tossing chug bugs and zara spook jrs. they hammered em, 15 fish in the boat before the action slowed. Fired up the engine and cruised a little further north, saw another school and got after them, another 10 in the boat. This went on until 8ish when things finally died down. Got into one school of small stripers and only had one boil that hinted at a large fish but no hook up, caught a few smaller stripes and blacks. Great topwater action, love evenings like that, highlight was a double hook up on a white bass and a black, pretty good fight when they worked in tandem. ended with 40+ whites, 3 stripes, and 4 blacks.

I don't think they are leaving the river this year which should make for a very interesting winter and spring run. I was trying to find the last time I caught whites let alone surface whites in the river this time of year and I haven't. You had a good night for sure...

I launched at Horseshoe Bend last night around 4:30. Started out searching for crappie. I caught probably 15 total, and kept 5 over 12" for the frying pan. Compared to last year at this same time, I'm not finding nearly the concentrations of fish at my spots....yet. As the water continues to warm I expect (hope) things will get better in these locations.

I started chasing bass around 6:30, and it was so-so. Caught 10 total, and most of them came on a Biffle Hardhead rig on the bottom in about 15 FOW. Only 1 keeper.

Thanks for the report. My wife and I are camping at Horseshoe Bend next 4 nights. We have been catching the surfacing whites the last couple weeks in the same area but the last 3-4 days seemed to have slowed. Went out yesterday evening around 6:30-7:30 in the same area you were fishing and saw nothing. I knew we should have held out a little longer for them to come up but the campfire was calling. I will fish this evening if not too rainy. I have ministry commitments the next 2 nights so will have to fish mornings. Have the whites been surfacing around Monte Ne area in the mornings?

I am new to this site and have really enjoyed the reports and clean content of this site.

Thanks
