Opening Morning Fun

It was opening morning of the 2014 Rifel season deer hunt in missouri. My buddy had just left to truck to go get set up at his spot and I waited about 10 min to go get set up in my spot in a field I was going to be watching all day. It's just about light enough to shoot and I have already herd 3 gun shots as I was walking to my spot. As soon as I got set up it had to been 2 min later I see a deer jump the fence about 130 yards from we're I was at then another one jumped like 30 sec after that one did. I quickly grabbed my for my doe bleat and called and these two small does came running right at me then stoped 40 yards from me. I picked the biggest one and fired. I got it and it ran maybe 20 yards and died in the woods. The other one stood there and watched the one I shot die. And I was not going to be greedy. As it was my buddies land I was hunting on. I herd the deer I shot fall. So I knew it was dead. But waited for the other one to leave so I could go find it. I went to look for it and saw no blood trail. We're I shot it at. Then I happend to look to my left and I saw the white belly. Deer down. I called my buddy and told him I got one. I shot the deer at 6:30 in the morning. Barley light to see. I did realize this was one of the twins I have been seeing all year during now season but couldn't get a shot at. Had been seeing them at the opposite side of the field I was on. Was a good opening day. I shot it with an sks. Was going to use my 7 mag but the bolt decided it wanted to mess up the day befor as I shot a couple rounds throu it to make sure it was still sighted in. And yes I have a banna clip on my gun but it only has 10 rounds in it. http://s356.photobucket.com/user/jbooth65652/media/Mobile%20Uploads/31622E3C-4DB1-4555-859B-5C9D863FBACF_zpswcmmyd4d.jpg.html

That's a great story, good eating deer you got.

vonreed is right. Whittle you out a piece of wood and remove the base plate of the mag. Insert the wood into the mag between the coils of the springs to keep the follower from going past the 10 round mark. Or just use the factory SKS mag that was made for the gun.

Thank you guys. I just stick with 10 to be on the safe side. I use my sks for mainly predator hunting as sometimes for one of my buddies to use when they go with me if they don't got a gun to use. It is a good tasting deer. Still have some meat left in the freezer. I like shooting the smaller deer . But not the does like to let them grow because they help build my population. I try to take a buck every year but I needed meat in te freezer. And I'm not picky sometimes will let them pass. We're i hunt I got 3 does that produce twins every year and one doe that produces triplets. I got some good bucks in there also. Some small ones and a nice 10 and 8 pointer that are in there.

Sticking with 10 is not being on the safe side, it is a game violation and a ticket. You can still use the magazine for hunting purposes, but it has to have some kind of block in it to limit it to only taking 10 rounds. That applies to any hunting, including predator.

Or you can simply buy one that has 10 rounds or less to hunt with and use the other for fun.

I see now. I never knew that rule. I will put something in it to stop at ten rounds. Will do that after the holidays. I'm going to clean the guns soon and put them up for the year. Taking the bow out one last time next weekend hopefully I will get one with it
