I used to take my son when he was under 16. Especially if the water is a little off color you can go with something larger and use 10 lb straight mono as a leader. Long fancy casts aren't necessary and often not possible. Gonna mostly be roll casts. Bring a big freaking net.

Took my son there years ago. He insisted on using a dry fly (black gnat) and danged if he didn't connect with a 18" bow!

He's never forgotten that adventure - and neither have I. Great place to put some young folks onto a sizeable fish.

If I'd known I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of myself...
