Took the Family to Bennett

Took the trip down to Bennett last Sun - Tues. We just had a blast and caught a lot of fish. I caught most of mine on a size 18 bead head, nothing really big but lots of them. My 8 year old son caught his one fish (on his own) on a John Deere 1/80th jig. The water was getting clear but was still very milky. I did notice that there was not as many fish in zone 1 as there normally is, or maybe due to the milky water they just were not as visible.

You picked my favorite days. I love standing in the stream watching everyone leave. Has a very calming effect on me.

That John Deere is a killer down there especially for an 8 year old. It doesn't take a lot of finesse to fish it. With a float they don't get into too much trouble. Pretty much "auto run".

Glad to hear the water is coming around, appreciate the report!!

Take care over there in Indep MO! Have some buddy's on the P. D. that tell me story's.

Yea, there are parts of Indep that are pretty hairy. And I agree watching the stream clear out and I had it mostly to myself was awesome, it was not like a winter creel trip...but I could move without bumping into someone. I love those mini jigs for beginners and honestly when it gets crowded, just makes it easier.

Awesome, thanks for the info. These reports are definitely relative... We had a terrible day with very few bites Thursday. But I stood next to a lady who caught 20 fish in an hour! Thankfully I've been on the other end of that equation once in a while, too.

yea, there is nothing worse than getting skunked and having someone next to you catching every cast. I think it is 70% location, 15% what you are using, and 15% the confidence in what you are using. I always have confidence in a size 16-20 bead head pheasant tail or other like nymph under a light indicator using 7x line. That seems to always get hits, no matter what time of year. The John Deere mini jig or the yellow and black jig are another go to for me.

fished next to my son in law last week. He was on maybe 3rd trout trip.. gave him a black 1/64 oz jig and float. He had 6#(!) florocarbon and absolutely hammered them! Under the bridge, below the dam, down by the hatchery outlet.... didn't matter... I threw JD and glo balls and hoppers (fun!) and caught a few.. but just never know...
