Secret trout stream...

Recommended Posts

I may have stumbled across a trout stream with a self sustaining population. I was having a picnic near a clear spring creek in Lawrence county when my wife and I decided to go for a walk. We looked in the water and there they were. Apparently there was once a trout hatchery up stream from there and they have been there ever since. According to my father in law anyway.

If you are talking about the stream that crosses HWY 60 then it isn't as secret as you think.  Not sure where exactly you are talking about, but that one I know of for sure.

Must the that creek that is in the 'middle' (wink wink, hint hint) right?  The one Ollie is taking about had a hatchery at the headwater, and had some really nice trout back in the late 80s early 90s.  Private  land and did strictly catch and release, one or two close to 20".    One December caught a 20"+ male in full spawning colors, looked like something off the cover of Field and Stream, even jumped a time or two.  Too bad I didn't have a cell phone back then to snap a pic.

Father in law says it was from hatchery in Verona and over time they made it all the way down to where I found them. I am going out there tomorrow morning to try to get one to eat a fly and to break in my new waders. Ill take the camera so I can share if I catch one,
