3-12-2016 Arkansas River

Recommended Posts

I fished the Arkansas today near Salida.  Air temps were in the 50's and the water was in the upper 40's.  Mostly cloudy skies with snow dumping in the Collegiate Peaks and the Sangre de Cristos.  Water was low and clear, perfect springtime conditions.  I fished for about 4 hours and caught quite a few browns on size 14 and 16 nymphs.  There were a few risers keying in on the odd midge, BWO and CADDIS.  There were a few fluttering about signaling that the water temps are perfect and our "5th season" is here and the main caddis hatch is just around the corner.

That is beautiful stretch through Salida! I fished the Arkansas down by Cotopaxi on the 13th. Browns were definitely active. Won't be long and the Caddis Will be swarming up the valley!
