Short report and fishing etiquette question

Recommended Posts

You should be in my boat on tournament day, when I am hanging out in the middle of the the lake trying to get that one mommy walleye to bite, and suddenly a tournament fisherman comes blasting by a bout 20 feet away going 70 mph like I am in his way.

I don't what I am telling you guys for, I know it wasn't an OAF member.

I feel your pain

Inform him that you ate glad he is close by, as you have been able to afford your PTSD medication after returning from Iraq.  You think there have been someone stalking you along the bank and would be glad to have some witnesses in case it come to gunfire.  Also casually mention that if you suffer a complete psychotic meltdown to please tie your hands and feet before you regain consciousness and to call the number on the emergency card in your wallet ane the Army will send someone immediately.  Then turn and scream at a bush that you are just talking to the man not to get twitchy.  If they are still around start to remove clothing after each cast, and mumble loudly the fresh air and sunshine is supposed to good for venereal disease prevention.

Now that's what I was looking for.

You ought to toss a rubber snake in their boat when they aren't looking. That'll get them excited.

God idea.

So, what is the proper distance to stay from another fisherman and what is the proper response for a guy that gets too close.

Here are my ideas:

5) Take photo of his boat and post on OAF.

I like 5, but we would need to start a thread on the forum where everyone comes up with a caption for the photo.  :)

Swepco is really bad on Saturdays in the winter.  I am fortunate to be able to go over there during the week, but even then it can feel a bit crowded.  But, that lake kicks out fish, and average size is really good.

Haven't been on Swepco in years.  It was really fun back in the day and not as crowded.  Never caught anything big, but numbers were insane.  Plus, there's just something about catching a fish in 103 degree water in a roaring discharge (back before they closed that part off) that made me giggle.  Handling the fish to unhook it was like petting a warm puppy..

My good friend Sgt Vest does something like that - but usually it's when people start crowding us while wading Taney. He starts YELLING not singing the Roland Martin T.V. Show theme song  - "HE'S THE GREAT AMERICAN FISHERMAN, HE'LL FISH ANYWHERE, ANYWHERE THERE'S WATER, YOU KNOW HE'LL BE THERE..."

Oh, my, my.  I'd pay good money to watch that.

Sadly, I did not make it over to Swepco this year.

My buddy Jeb's avatar picture is of him holding a 7.5 lb. Swepco bass (I took the picture).  That day we caught several bass over 6 lbs., our best five would have gone at least 30 lbs.  All came from one specific location, and it was an early morning bite.  That location fished great for a couple of weeks that year, but never has been as good since then.
