Sad time in the Law Enforcement Community

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, Detective Brad Lancaster, a Kansas City Kansas Police officer was killed while assisting Patrol officers locate a suspicious subject near the Kansas Speedway.  Detective Lancaster located the suspect, engaged him and was shot multiple times wounding him by the suspect who was recently released from prison.  Detective Lancaster later died at KU Med Center from his injuries.

My heartfelt condolences go out to all of his family and KCK PD family for their loss.

That shooting happened about 15 miles from us, and the suspect made it up to within 5 miles or so, before heading for KCMO. Our kids' schools were on lockdown.

Tragic deal. Sounds like the suspect had served a sentence and was released normally from the KS state pen here in Lansing. Could have been much worse, with more deaths. Really surprised KCMOPD didn't end his escapades permanently. KCK and KCMO tend to not pull punches in those situations.

Horrible

"suspect who was recently released from prison", makes you wonder what the heck he was doing on the loose.

Here he is on Facebook. Just ask him!

The officer was laid to rest on Saturday in his hometown of Weston, MO. I happened to be going up there for a festival there that day and scattered all along the highway were groups of people waiting for the funeral procession to arrive. We didn't see the actual procession, but this is what it was like:
