Charles Gusewelle RIP

Recommended Posts

We lost a great one: Charles Gusewelle, who wrote for the Kansas City Star for over 60 years, passed away this week. He wrote on a wide range of topics -- from foreign travel to life at home with his pets to stories about the Ozarks. He was an avid outdoorsman, had a little cabin in the Ozarks and hunted over Brittanys. One of his books, The Rufus Chronicle: Another Autumn is a great read, especially if you're a bird dog lover, but even if you like dogs or just good, humorous writing. Rufus was one of his Brittanys, who was a bit of a character. If you've got a heart, the story will put a lump in your throat.

I haven't watched this show, Away From it All,  yet, but it popped up on my Facebook feed. His stuff is usually a sure thing -- I'll watch it soon.

Gonna miss reading his stuff, but there's a huge body of it out there to re-read.

Just bought the book on ebay for under $6 looking forward to reading it, and will share.  Hope to have more dogs in front of me....

Several on there just have to price shop.

I hope you enjoy it. I've read it a couple times -- maybe about due to read it again.

I can't seem to bring myself to read things like that anymore.  Too many dogs behind me now.

The Rufus Chronicle has been received and read.  Enjoyed greatly, a easy read, Thanks for the suggestion Ness.  I think we all know how it ends, but I enjoyed their adventures.  It sure brought back memories of bird dogs past, and my short comings as a human being.  I am sure it would stir Terrierman's memories....good and sad. Already loaned to a friend who is a bird dog guy.
