Fishing 1st Week

7 posts in this topic

I was fortunate enough to make it down Saturday, 3/4/17, and Tuesday 3/7/17.  Very crowded Saturday morning, but I was able to catch 18 and stopped around 10 am.  My keepers ranged from 14" to a little over 16". Fished the lodge hole and down a bit.  Today, fished the same area and by 9 am caught 12.  Largest was 15", but kept no dinks.  I used either white or cotton candy(mauve and white) magnets.  Both very fun and successful fishing trips.

My 81 year old father fished the social hole using good ole power bait.  He caught his limit in 15 minutes.  Used orange with glitter.

Thanks for the report! I hope to get back down there within the next few weeks.  The stocker size seems to be pretty good at least it was on the opener. Caught lots in the 15"-16" range then got really lucky and landed a 28 incher that went 8lb 8oz on opening day in the early afternoon.  Was surprised she was left after the crowds started to dissipate

That's awesome 10pointer! Hope to catch a lunker there some day.   Seems that stocker size is good so far,   Hopefully less flooding and having to stock other trout parks will make Montauk great again:)

Was down on Saturday, fished the fly zone from 10am till noon and landed and release 4.  My son caught 2, but the fly zone still seems light on fish compared to prior years IMO.  Weather was great and crowd was light when we arrived.  Grilled some brauts, messed around for a few more hours and I caught one more, my son the sculpin killer had fun along the bank.  Visited that hatchery and were on the road by 3:p.m.

I was curious about the numbers of fish. Pretty low last fall...with normal weekend crowds it was kinda dissapointing. I wonder what the stocking rate is this year...seems to be little information on it

Dale, what are Magnet flies?  Is that same as glow balls?

I'm thinking trout magnets is what he's referring too, Dave.
