Wobble Head information

Recommended Posts

I am headed to the Rock with my family the week after Memorial Day. I am making sure i have my tackle in order for the trip. What weight and hook size do you guys prefer on wobble heads. I am running low and need to pour some. What are the preferred plastics to put on the business end. Any recommendations on bass fishing around  Kimberling City would be welcome.

It really depends what you are throwing on the wobble head.  Smaller profile baits like a finesse worm or senko/speedcraw ect I'll throw like a 5/16 for the time of year you are talking about and fish probably being in that 15-25ft range I usually drag those like a C-rig or FB jig.  However when I throw the full size biffle bug or brush hog I throw a 7/8 or 1oz, I usually reel these really slow along the bottom more like a crankbait.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

If I was making my own wobbleheads, I would pour them with the hook hanger horizontal and put something like a 60 degree jig hook on it.  If you do that, you can put one of those spring type bait holders on the eye of the hook and thread the bait on and then Texas rig it.  Keeps the bait from getting pulled down to the hook bend when you get a bite and your bait will be more secure when pulled through cover.

I pretty much use 1/2 or 3/4 oz heads with creature type baits.

Quill nailed it. Either his suggestion or a hook with a deeper throat to keep the baits from sliding down. It happens A LOT on wobble heads. Highly annoying.

As far as baits I like a D-Bomb or Menace Grub myself.

Yesterday Kimberling city area to point 9 had good bite on open banks, shallow 1 to 8 feet of water, largemouth mostly,  A few small mouth and spots mixed in. 25 in the boat total in 3+ hours. Best 5 LM 13 - 14#. Swing jig head w/ watermelon/red metal flake Menace. Swimming just above submerged grass/veg. Ticking tops it at times. No hard strikes.  They would just pick it up and start swimming sideways.

Today after the cold front was a different story. Quite a few bites but they would not commit to eating the bait. Finally when the sun came out caught a few small mouth.   Will give it another shot later. Good luck.
