LOZ Water Temps ANYWHERE???

Recommended Posts

Been searching online for almost an hour and can't believe that the most visited lake in the state does not have surface temp available online.  One would think there would be a temp at multiple locations.  If anyone knows of a source, please share.  (Angler Spy only has Bull shoals and Table Rock).

Tight lines.

"Muddy"....really?  What a bummer.  We are heading down this weekend.  Booked a AirBnB place on the Little Niangua Arm.  If it's truly muddy then maybe we should cancel and move closer to the dam.  What do you think.  And, if you don't mind me asking, where did your temps come from?  Your boat, I hope!  Thanks.

Yes, muddy.  Most of the state south of I-70 had 5+ inches of rain last week, it happens.

Temps from the boat.

Up to you to move or not, I rarely make it into the Little Niangua, but it is one of the first places to clear up after a heavy rain.  Call Wilson's resort or someone up that way and ask them the conditions.

Bagnell is generating hard all week. Won't that drag the muddy water even closer to the dam by the weekend?

Closer, yes.  But I don't think it will get there, not the chocolate milk anyway.  It's 20mi from the dam now and will filter out along the way.  A good portion will likely get stained up.  It's a little different each time depending on where the heaviest rains fell, level when it fell, how fast they drop it back etc.  I think this was the worst time to happen when it was at drawdown, a lot more sediment exposed than a runoff at summer pool.

Thanks for the replies.  I was able to cancel my rental on the Little Niangua an find a place on the Gravois.  Owner sent me pic of water near his dock - visibility abot 3 feet.

Still...to my original post...no public water temps online I guess?  Have never fished a decent sized lake in the midwest where water temps can't be found beforehand.  Though...I suppose you can't beat the firsthand info available from the anglers here!

@RiverboundI was in the Gravois all day Sunday.  It was 39 in the main channel near Jolly Rogers at 9am and 46.5 up Indian Creek in the mud around 3pm.  Visibility was fine until around the 6mm.  That said, we didn't get any bites (bass) unless we were in the dirty water.

We will be staying in the 1st cove on the eastern side as you head up the Indian Creek arm.  I guess we'll have to make a few runs here and there to see what we've got.  I like clearer water for fishing jerk baits, but if the dirtier water is warmer and we can find fish shallow - well...we'll adjust.  Anything to write home about on Sunday?

Attached is the water clarity at the Water's Edge motel in Gravois Mills - taken about 2 hours ago.

We threw the tackle box at them and found a decent bite on squarebills, wiggle warts and Spro Rock Crawlers.  Nothing over 3lbs, sadly.  Shad colors, anything with orange belly, dark red seemed to work.  We caught some 3-4" gizzard shad that were stacked up on the warmest banks in Indian.  You could feel them hitting your line as you pulled through the school and there would be one snagged on a treble when you lifted the crankbait out of the water.  The bass bite was light.  Felt like a wet sock or clump of leaves and then it would load up.  Good luck!  Post pics for us poor fools who have to "work".  Cabin Fever!  #StruggleIsReal
