I am waiting for.those outdated units to show up for sale really cheap.  I have a $100 lorance that is doing well to tell how deep it is.  Would love to have a DI, but not that bad, yet.

Bass Boat Central and Bass Resource have units for sale all of the time.  I have sold several units on them.

Hey Dan i may have a LSS2 transducer and structure HD box for sale soon. I ordered a new Garmin, and as long as it shows up (its on back order) i will let you know. Those things are pricey new.   Mine works perfect

dan that's a tough call. normally the return is the air sac. bigger sac bigger return. anything a foot off bottom should show. right on bottom lying in mud tough call but might just look fishy. I have caught fish off bottom but very seldom sure but area just looked right. if they are right on bottom and you hook up keep watching more may come up with hooked fish and you may catch several more.

You can take a 2x4 and a hammer tapping from the sides will get it loose.  However if you "tap" too hard you will kill the crystals in it.

Fish laying on the bottom are generally the fish that are easier to catch (largemouth and smallmouth), I find it hard to see these fish on the graph when they are on the bottom,  but it is more about seeing the structure on the graph. You aren't going to catch those fish that are suspended in 50ft water easily. The best way is to adjust sensitivity to get a clearer picture as soon as you put the boat in the water. Once you have a good picture, look for offshore humps, extended points etc, with boulders especially. The fish setup on these things will be the easiest to catch.
