I know it’s their right, but!!!

I don't think very many die, because bass are pretty tough and can take  quite a bit of abuse and still survive. All I know is that a keeper bass taken out of the areas of the lake that I like to fish, and transported to areas that I don't like to fish, don't want to fish, or can't fish....might as well be dead.

Therefore a few guys keeping and eating a dozen or so per year is a darn site better than 300 guys per month removing several thousand every month, just so they can try to be called a hammer.

A tourney angler is just some schmuck who paid the entry fee. Their a thousands of them Does not mean you are any good. Presumably a game of skill, so not technically gambling, but probably minor level gambling for most who participate. It's for folks who don't understand math, our need a hall pass from the Queen mostly.

A real test of the best would start in the late Winter, 4 hour matches, double elimination, and would take all year to play out.

Now something like that would be fun to follow.

Each angler would be fishing against one other angler during each match.   You could run as many matches per day as you could gather up official judges (if immediate release format was used).

A real test of their skill and manliness would put them out there  with oars and  a map of the shore line,  ..

Have a tournament at every access and all would be  close enough that anglers in the next boat could judge.

manliness has as much to do with tournament fishing as you putting your panties on in the morning. Didnt see in the original post anything about tournaments. You anti-findabetterway-savemylake protesters go find you another topic to spill your guts on.  Gets as old as seeing the same deer out front each morning.

I'm not particularly good at it. But I love fishing. Bass, crappie, walleye,  it doesn't matter. But I take it for what it is. It's just fishing. It's not like we are trying to clip the balls off of a Bengal tiger with toenail clippers. Some of us take it far to seriously and are to easily offended. If you are able to enjoy this wonderful pastime, then just relax and enjoy it. Because someday, for whatever reason. You won't be able too. IMHO. Have wonderful life.

Better to buy gear and fish than compete. Odds of making money back are lottery odds and the payback is small in most tourneys. Better odds playing poker with friends after a day on the water.

I can say I have fished one bass tournament in my entire life, and have only left he house with the intent of bass fishing on a lake maybe 5 times.  BUT, I can see why those that are into it really enjoy it.  More power to them, maybe one day soon I will find myself at Stockton and target some smallies, that would make the hurt a little less.😊  besides at least it ain't golf, I don't feel sorry for bass fishermen like I do golfers.
