Now THATS a Crappie

Pretty amazing crappie. Wonder if they ate it. The handling of that fish for the photos likely prevented a successful release.

I used to go to the Columbia BPS just to see Pat the current (previous) world record black crappie. It was an amazing fish to watch swimming in their tank. Only lasted a couple of years in captivity. I suspect that the constant "low" temps that they keep that tank may have contributed to her demise. Or a fish that big was pretty old to begin with and maybe she just met her natural end.

That would be my guess. I can't imagine a crappie of that size not being at the end of it's life cycle.
