Finding Road Beds

Recommended Posts

I've been wanting to try and find fish on old road beds but my fish finder is of pretty low quality. Do you guys trust like navionics to have the road beds in the right places? on my fish finder I can't tell the difference in the bottom when I stroll over what navionics has labeled as an old road

I can tell you that on Mark Twain, Truman, and Lake O the roadbeds deeper than 10-12' are covered over in a blanket of soft soggy silt.   For the most part they are worthless as fish structure.

Imagine an untravelled road drifted over after a Winter blizzard and you get the idea.

for the most part yes. What area of the lake?

Predominately on the main lake. Supposedly there is one outside of edge branch cove just to the north and also outside and south of cothwell branch. Thanks!

You can find them with low quality electronics. If you have sonar or preferable down imaging, just look for a rise in the bottom, goes flat for split second, then drops back down.. that's a road bed.. also there will be signs on the bank where there is a clearing in the trees. Another good way to find road beds are going on the satellite google maps, and you can see where roads just end, and the lake starts, then the road continues on the other side.

If there is no change then it's not worth it. Find some that have timber lining the sides or a ditch on the sides or a little creek be along the side or a spot where the road crossed a creek. Road beds are great to fish around but not every road bed is great.
