Cabela's/Bass Pro store in Rogers

Recommended Posts

everyone didn't expect BP to carry on with Cabelas did they? as time goes on and contractual obligations of Cabelas are met..it will be all BP, less brands, less choice, less competition. What does that mean for the sportsman consumer?  Cabelas was dropping in value and sales had been falling, the big player against any brinks and mortar be it bass pro or Walmart is the big A word Amazon. last time I checked ammo and gun sales where down WAY down since the election, advertising for shooting goods has plummeted, the ROI isn't there... Obama and his grab your gun cronies are now out of power and the courts are swinging back to the right,

BP will keep what parts of Cabelas is profitable and chitcan the rest, like any well run business should...regardless how we feel. if they don't, they will go they way of K-mart, Howard Johnson, and blockbuster, I am not a big fan of bass pro's love affair with Bfing but they have done a lot for our area...it remains to be seen how this expensive merger will play out with BP

Most people believe that Johnny's passion is the outdoors...WRONG -- His passion is MAKING MONEY !!! and he is good at it..

This has been going on for at least six months with Cabelas people disappearing/replaced  and gangs of executives prowling the store and discussing the changes. Seems like six weeks or so ago they started moving displays and merchandise. All those shelf units are on wheels, the fly fishing stuff has been in a different place each of the last three times I've been in there.

I think we all knew that when BP bought C's it was to dismantle it and salvage the profitable parts. Boats mainly? The obvious that never gets mentioned is C's had to be in some trouble or it would not have been sold. Even though most on this forum are outdoor sporting types, the general population is not, the market for plastic worms and waders is quite small in comparison breakfast foods and TVs. Not a big enough market to support BP & C's & Dicks & Gander Mountain all so some merge and some fail. and in the end we should have shunned all the big box stores in favor of Mom & Pop, but, we didn't. I don't buy much, anymore but in the last 20+ years 90% of the little fishing stuff I have bought has been from a guy in Cassville.  I like walking around C's looking at things and bsing the sales people but, honestly, the only times I bought any thing it was on gift cards that I received and they could not be used anywhere else nor cashed in.

fwiw I was told the other night that now Cabela's gift cards will work at BP and vise versa ( I was asking about the catalog-but as I understood it, it would work in the stores also.

Wife and I went into Cablea's in Rogers today. Very sad. Had some gift cards to use, and need some reloading supplies. They have torn all the Cabela's signs off the building, save one, and replaced them with Bass Pro Outdoor World signs. Selection in the store is getting to be more and more BP brands. Prices are BP also. I buy a lot of primers, so keep an good eye on prices. BP in Springfield was always wildly high at $50 a thousand for small pistol. Cabela's normal price was $33, and they'd have them on sale often. And that's about the going national rate for them online. Guess what the price of the primers was today. $50. I'll be mail ordering primers from now on, it seems. Even with hazmat fees, they're way cheaper than BP.

darn shame what they've done here. I wish no ill will toward JM or BP, but they sure are not going to see as much of my money as they have in the past.
